Strong aftertaste mean the long lasting fragrance of the tea on your mouth. It makes your saliva also taste like tea.

QUOTE(Tsuyoshi-kun @ Oct 31 2011, 09:09 PM)
Hey guys, sup? Something to share, last Wed there was no water supply at my home and so I went out and get a bottle of distilled water. I boiled the water for my Dong Ding oolong and it turns out to be tasteless. Totally tasteless like the tea leaves has been brewed for 10 times. It's an experiment by mistake and now I've learned that distilled water should NOT be use for tea brewing as it spoils even the best tea leaves.
Many teamaster suggest best using fresh spring water from mountain, but its impossible to get fresh spring water in KL. Do you guys have any idea which  brand of mineral waters in the market thats suitable for tea?
*
You know I always see people collecting water along the highway (Sg Long towards Kajang/Putrajaya). Have always wondered what they do with it and its not like one or two people doing it, sometimes its like 4-5 cars parked and people just collecting drums of the water from the rocks beside the highway.

I guess that qualifies as spring water and you gave me the idea that maybe its good water for drinking tea. Anyone tried that??

Added on November 1, 2011, 2:54 amFor mineral water, I did once check table of contents in the supermarket of various mineral water brands and I notice that one brand has the highest amount of dissolved solids in it, its a brand called Eau Claire. Seems to be from Kedah.

Maybe those people are tea connoisseur. Are you going to collect those "spring water" beside the road?
*
You know, these guys are really collecting large quantities on the water (huge containers). I see them at it throughout the day except during heavy rain. Must be ok to consume I guess. Have not heard of anyone dieing YET!

I plan to try but have not yet.

How sure are you they are collecting it for drinking purpose. Maybe for making poison to kill rats.  tongue.gif

I drank many times spring water and so far not yet die or lausai.. tongue.gif

Actually I have been asking around in cheras and some people told me they are collecting it for tofu manufacturing. Reflecting back, it seems plausible cause of the number of drums, vans and sometimes lorries they use.

Also found a new spot they are collecting water from, which is behind Giant Tmm Connaught. Really going to try it this weekend cause this new spot is so much closer to home.

Do you guys this I should leave it overnight or brew straight away?

QUOTE(Tsuyoshi-kun @ Nov 3 2011, 08:21 AM)
The small rock mountain in Taman Connaught right in front of Angkasa Condo am I right? I drive past that rock mountain sometimes and saw 1 or 2 person there collecting water from a pvc pipe stuck between the gap on the rock. It does look unhygienic because they are collecting the water near the drain. I suspect it's water from a big drain on top of the mountain since that area is surrounded with many new housing and commercial projects. You better find out where exactly the source of water come from. I'm not trying to scared you but even though if it's a real spring water, maybe on top of that mountain there's an illegal indon squatters where they do all the washing and cleaning.  whistling.gif

Do not drink straight away. Leave it a while for the impurities to settle on the bottom and scoop the top part to drink..As mention, always check if the source is clean enough to drink. If there are settlement on top of the hill, then avoid the water from that area. .
*
Yep you are correct about the location. I think its safe cause on top of the hill is reservoir for drinking water. You will see it on the right at the traffic lights on top of the hill (the road leading to the top of the hill).

Cuebiz noted on how best to consume the water.

If you see me posting next week then you know I survived drinking the water. Bought a 5litre bottle of mineral water just now, intend to use the container for collecting the water.

My weekend experiment of spring water is over. Collected the water on Saturday morning. Tested it on Sunday.

Verdict: Aroma was the same for Ali san Oo Long tea. Taste was different, cannot say if better or worst. It tasted more organic.

The water when drink was smoother (not sure if this is the correct description) when swallowing.

Picture of what is left after the experiment.

Conclusion: Not really worth the effort.

I got this last week from my boss. He just bought it from Japan. It is Japanese Green tea. I am not sure what type of green tea, maybe you guys can tell me. I was told that it is best consume when cold (still waiting for it to cool down in the fridge smile.gif ).

It has really plain packaging
user posted image

From the label I can see a website (http://maruni-nori.com/) sadly its all in Japanese and even with Google translate I can't understand this website.

What's inside the pack. I was surprise to find tea bags and not lose tea inside.

Tea bag macro shot. Can see really fine tea leaves inside.

I wasn't sure how many bags to use but since I wanted to fill a bottle full I used 2 bags. Here they are during 1st brew.

Slimfox dude, thank God you still alive. The spring water that you collected not worth the effort huh, perhaps the water at the Sg Long/Kajang Putrajaya highway taste better.  brows.gif By the way, your green tea in the bottle looks tasty. You bought the Japanese teapot from Daiso?
*
Thank you, yes you are correct, not worth the effort. The green tea is tasty. Drank it this morning. has a little bit of seaweed taste too. I still prefer the one with roasted rice in it.

As for the tea pot, it was a gift. Daiso also have that type of tea pot?

Thanks, also trying out my new DSLR. Remember my Japanese tea with baked rice? I tried chilling it the other day and I was really really pleasant. Quite addictive actually (sudden daily ritual, make in the morning, drink evening).

Some type of memento gift type of Yunnan tea, I find the idea nice but for RM20.00 each, a little expansive.

Guys I just came back from Hong Kong and had a nice time shopping, tea pots and tea included apart from my new year shopping. I only have to tell you that the prices of tea and designer tea pots are really over inflated in Malaysia.

So an advise to you guys who are planing to spend serious $ in to your tea and tea pot collection to actually make a trip to either Hong Kong or Taiwan for your purchases. You could actually save lots of $ or get better quality items there.

BTW went with one small bag came back with 2 extra large suitcases and was over weight by 20kgs. Now my wallet is in ICU sad.gif
