Hojo is at The Gardens> http://hojotea.com/indexe.html

They sell premium tea and nice japanese teaware. Price is quite high but quality is quite good. I like their japanese greens.

Purple cane is known for being expensive.

I heard they can judge the temp of the water by the look of the bubble... they give names for it...

shrimp eyes
    about 70-80 °C (155–175 °F) – separate bubbles, rising to top
crab eyes
    about 80 °C (175 °F) – streams of bubbles
fish eyes
    about 80-90 °C (175–195 °F) – larger bubbles
rope of pearls
    about 90-95 °C (195–205 °F) – steady streams of large bubbles
raging torrent
    rolling boil, swirling and roiling

Ya that was what I read also. Was busy trying it out today. you know what it is quite fun to go back to the basics. Makes that cup of tea so much more enjoyable.

maxguy: where is the fun if u get a thermometer? My auto boiler does automatically too.

2007 Spring of Menghai Raw - Tasted a bit flowerish in the begining. Then it became bitter. Then it became light and gives a little sweet at the 8th brew onwards. Not so nice to drink now.

2003 Liu An - After trying the 1920s and 1940s, so I thought of trying it when it is still decently new. This is about 7 years old and it is no way near the taste of the oldies. This tasted very terrible. Sourish. Weird. Drinking this gives me the goose bumps.

Try their Gyokuro (Japanese Green Tea), Yun Feng (Chinese Green Tea), Phoenix Oolong. You can check out their teawares too.

The price tag is not cheap and they refused to give discount. If you compare it to their web store price, it is cheaper to buy online. Workaround for them not giving discount, ask for freebies (as in tea or accessories) especially you buy their teapots.

Lao Chan kepong couldn't open shop for the past few weeks cause their 2 staff has resigned, so no one to attend the shop. I was passing by and saw it was opened, went in and the lady boss (investor) said they have not resumed biz yet.

She has no idea about the tea and prices. She apologized and asked me to come next time.

Went JDX and tried

-99 Hong Yin raw

Ya, I think they do sell the green tea, but I m not sure how much.

Another option of such taste japanese green tea is @ Hojo, Karigane. It is not too expensive for casual drinking and it gives the burn smell.

It is one of my favorite, but can be quite heaty if drink too much smile.gif If you read back the older pages of this thread, I got many ulcer from drinking roasted tea.

Phoenix Oolong.. Is it raw or semi-fermented? I was reading the article you linked to earlier and am very curious about their tea ware. Is the clay used that good? have to check this out in person.

They have lot of teaware info on their website. Look under Japanese Teapot section. Read through their purple, red, shigaraki, cast iron, etc.

I like their Shigaraki Clay the most. Rough and enhance the water quite well.
http://hojotea.com/item_e/shigaraki.htm

For Phoenix Oolong (Dan Cong), you can read under the Chinese Oolong Tea. Very informative about how they process and harvest.

I really salute Hojo's way of selling tea, just that the price is something you must be willing to pay cause not cheap but is good quality.
