The shorter plug has no earthing connecting to ground while long extension wire does. It's the earthing that grounds the excess ant-bite current. smile.gif

Roger, but yangz said that he changed from the short to long socket, so I thought when he said socket .. he meant power strip (aka extension) .. probably you're right, he might meant the plug instead..

@sumtuckieee .. why on earth you need to calibrate a newly charged MBP? With newer battery, I believe you really need to do this sparingly ..

Depending on the monitor, you might want to get the correct mini display adapter .. what kind of monitor do you have?

i am using it now.. how to check eh?
feel like wanna buy too.. but i think not so fast.. bcoz need to buy external keyboard first b4 the stand..

btw.. do u guys restart or shut down your mac? or just put it into sleep? my mbp just now beachball until i TL.. then i restart it.. now seems ok..
...
apps running: Photoshop, google chrome (about 20 tabs), firefox (5tabs), skype like tat only..

each time the beachball may varies from 5 to 15 seconds.. is it normal?
*
I don't usually shutdown my MBP, I let it run for few weeks before I restart it. On why too many beachballs .. check the activity monitor and see what processes consume lot of cpu time or check the hard disk activities .. On your chrome or firefox, did any of the tabs contain any Flash application? I've removed both chrome and firefox out of my MBP since sometime they consumed lot of cpu time for no reason .. only left is safari and its the default anyway.

thx for sharing.. yea.. shud hv check the activity monitor.. last nite was blur.. cant figure it out where is the ctrl+alt+del for Mac.. then straight i restart.. after that only think back it is at activity monitor.. will see nx time to find out.. however.. i see the google chrome using a lot of memory, each new tabs consists of 25-35MB if not mistaken.. name as google chrome helper as the process name..

is it bcoz chrome still in beta stage? that's why got this problem?
*
Probably! .. I used it for couple of days before I'm getting a lot of page reload errors and that really pissed me off and ditch it altogether. BTW, if you want a quick way accessing your application w/o going to finder -> applications .. take a look at QuickSilver, a free multi-application launcher .. just need to press two key combination .. ctl-space .. and type in first few characters of your app name.. really handy ..

is partition really necessary on mac? if so..what sw to apply then..
*
Its really up to you, I have three partitions in my current MBP and I did two partitions on my wife's new MBP .. What I did was resizing the big partition into two using Disk Utility .. First, boot up using the SL DVD, do not continue with installation, there is menu to run disk utility instead. Do a search on the net using google on how to do the resizing .. this link should shed some light ..

@wiraone..rather than resizing it..could it creates new partition instead..
if i were to have partitions..what would u recommend me to store into those partitions..e.g data, games, office, school etc..
*
Well, it is really up to you .. repartition means that you'll delete an existing partition .. resizing the partition will create new partition(s) after the existing partition. End result will be the same, have more than one partition .. but removing existing partition means that you need to reinstall the OS which is just waste of time really if you've just got your MB.

Mine, I've one partition which holds my virtual machine's image, one for junks .. but the rest are in my main partition including my documents .. too lazy to move them around.

Guys, when they said "clearance" .. this is paperwork clearance that the courier need to do before the goods arrive. So, if you see the clearance in the status, this does not mean the goods is already in Subang.

Sorry to say that apple retail store doesnt offer education price... Only available online... You could ask your parents to read this thread about us buying our macs online with all the trackings available...

Or if your parents are still paranoid about buying online, apple retail store does offer 0% interest fee for certain credit cards (maybank, citibank etc)
*
I believe there are two Apple educational stores that you could go to .. one is Epicentre at LimKokWing and another a Sapura at MMU .. both at CyberJaya. Their contact numbers are available on the internet, give them a call and ask what needed to buy the unit at educational price .. probably a proof that you're student and nothing much else..

hey guys i have a problem with my mbp. i left my mbp on today for roughly a few hours with the lit closed. i think it went on sleep mode. didnt on any fans near it cos nobody was at home. when i got back, the fan was in 'high' mode, and the laptop on the left side is really hot. this is the first time that this happened. usually if i were to close the lit of the laptop, even without fan, it wud not go into high fan. just wondering if any sifus know whats wrong with my mbp. anything gone wrong?
*
I had this problem few times already .. its when we thought that closing the lid will bring the system to hibernate .. what you could do is to look into your syslog and see what causes the system to come alive .. and most probably as other said, it might be some of the USB devices that connected to your MBP causing this.

Added on May 10, 2010, 6:02 pmBTW, do a search on google with "macbook sleep issue" and you could find a lot of postings about this issue .. there are quite a number of option you could try .. but for me, setting it to not awake on opening the lid seems to solve my problem..

Its just advisable to do battery calibration after unboxing but of course its not compulsory. Yea normally people is advise to perform periodically calibration like once a month or once in 2 months like what goliath said...
*
Is this official? I haven't come across any advice from Apple asking us to do calibration the first time we got the MB/MBP. I've come across Apple advising us to do this every couple of months or so.

*
what model number? Probably a Huawei with vodafone brand, take a look at the network preference, if you've installed the driver, it might shown there. If not, try to add manually ..

Oh, after you add, tick to show on task bar and from there, there will be a connect option.

Ask your friend to call up AppleStore and ask them to send him/her the new MBW .. or if he has got it already, nothing much you could do .. can we return online purchase? smile.gif

hi all, one question here.
When I drag songs from External HDD to iTunes, it will create a new Copy of the songs into my Mac HDD which I don't like.
How to play songs in iTunes via External HDD ?

More and more posts that are out of topic, but I guess it is easier to ask question here rather than asking in different thread and not receiving any answer smile.gif Anyway, to answer your question, check this link:

My MagSafe adapter seems to be broken, after > 3.5 yrs of usage. It doesn't light up when charging and stays green after the battery is fully charged and disconnected from the MBP.. there is something wrong with it, going to Sapura today and see if I could get a free replacement .. following Apple troubleshooting guide, if it is not an accidental damage, I could get a replacement foc.
