damn acebeam have gone mad... white laser...
250lumens, very pocketable 1x21700, 1000m...
http://www.acebeam.com/white-laser-w10

they even got the cheek to say "Please note: DO NOT look into the beam", like no shit...

so...i went and bought the manker mk41...
surprisingly it outshines the jetbeam at 200m...even tho they both have similar rated throw at 410m and 390m...so technically at 200m both should throw around the same at the target...hmm...need to go research why tongue.gif
maybe its not exactly linear...and the extra lumens of the mk41 makes a difference still at 200m...

now if jetbeam somehow had the new emitter that the mk41 has...thats gonna rule tongue.gif

user posted image

nm, figured out the throw issue... the jetbeam inbuilt battery indicator sux... said full.
so i swapped batteries in both, and manker said it was 50%.
so now charging, and will try again at midnight tongue.gif

hmm ok, fully charged... looks like my sanyo harmolattice has issues / the light doesn't like harmolattice or vice versa...puts out slightly lower output than eneloops...
guess I'll replace the eneloop in flashgun with the harmolattice...

the manker is pretty compact, eh? but that glass breaker on your jetbeam looks pretty menacing!

i'm now toying with the idea of getting myself a u22 . so much for not being a thrower guy  icon_rolleyes.gif

strange... now that the s2r2 is available, the s2r1 seems to have vanished. i'm sure there were many still available before the s2r2 made its appearance hmm.gif
*
ya i played a bit with the u22... just a few things held me back.
no holster, and the 21700 batt isnt easily purchased seperately for now.
also it was around rm60 more than the mk41... also bigger than mk41... and i pity my AA batteries just collecting dust.

these are the reasons why i'm holding back. if only i could get my hands on a reasonably priced mk41nw  cry.gif
*
the NW is too yellow, plus its not hi-cri...so its gonna tint everything yellow instead of bringing out the true colors.
thats why i went with the CW...its actually more white white than blue white...closer to 5500k than 7000k.

oh, and theres 10% sale going on now...

nice... but still falls short of the u12 in terms of max lumens. simpler ui, and i really like olight's more refined design, though. hmm...

okay, here's where i'm scratching my head about olight's upgrades. first it was the s1rII... now it's the s2RII. brief comparison between the s2rII and s2rI:

distance (m): 135/153 (-18)
max lm: 1150/1020 (+130)
candela: 4600/5800 (-1200)
endurance:
@400lm/@500 lm: 4h0m/3h20m (+40m)
@120lm: 14h0m/13h0m (+1h0m)
@15lm/@12lm: 100h0m/120h0m (-20h)

weight: 98.5g/101.5g (-3g)
length: 100mm/105mm (-5mm)
diameter: 23mm/23mm (0mm)
methinks not much improvement, eh? hence, whilst v2 has nicer looks, and may be a tad bit shorter/lighter, for the price, the sr2 would be the one to get (sure got discount). same like the s1r...

charger : 1000ma / 750ma.
charging from zero to full : 3.84hrs / 5.12hrs
battery indicator : yes / no.
reversible clip : yes / no.

tongue.gif

as to why olight upgraded the emitter, i guess can read this thread - http://budgetlightforum.com/node/54947

look what came in with the mail today  rclxm9.gif
[attachmentid=10124452]
not exactly the throw torch i was aiming for, but a very close second and i actually prefer the styling on this compared to thrunite's catapult. anyway, since it's a thrower, decided to go with the cw instead of my preferred nw. will bring her out this weekend for some field test to see how she performs. wonder if she'll surprise a fisherman or two whistling.gif
*
one thing that bugs me about the mankers...
the ring around the button isnt centered...zzz.
the least they could do is make it either smooth, or put more grooves so wont look off center tongue.gif

the grooves are the catch for when they screw on the switch assembly, perhaps?  hmm.gif

p.s. when the tailcap is screwed on tight, the lanyard loop on the tailcap isn't perfectly aligned either icon_rolleyes.gif

aligned how? like this? tongue.gif

i have a new found respect for throwers. the u22 is an amazing thrower, relative to its size. i would say usable distance of approx. 100m out. it could be the atmospheric conditions that restricted its reach, but during my test night it lit a 3 storey building pretty well. no doubt the light reaches further than 100m, but by my reckoning, the illumination is less than satisfactory. anyway, imo, 100m is pretty good. personally though, the u12 is a more practical worklight for me.
*
ya, like I said also for me... light up decently at 100m already good enough.
of cos throwers aren't the most practical everyday light... but that's why we have multiple lights... diff ones for diff occasions tongue.gif

yeah, different lights for different purpose. that's what i tell myself... but end up with similar lights also  sweat.gif
now keep similar lights at different place  whistling.gif
*
ya well, i have 3 different single AA / AAA in diff places for diff usages.
then i have this cheap camping light i leave on a small desk by my keys...in case of blackout.

i also learnt not to put lights with lithium batts in cars... not so much that they will explode... but heat shortens the life.

but what about energizer ultimate lithium? It will never leak and I don't think it'll vent in my car so far.
*
well i never said anything about it leaking...just batt life reduced.
thats why like my nitecore tip...was advised not to put in car...so now its a 1xAA light.

hmm nitecore has finally 'fixed' the UI with the new TUP... now long press on power button is direct to low.
now to wait for this to trickle down to a Tip v4 or Tini v2...

there's no industry standard so until the industry finds a ui that most users prefer, it's still very much a free for all. pretty new to the light thingy and everytime i have a light on, takes me a while to figure out which light uses what ui, and more often than not, it's by trial and error...
*
never said there was an industry standard...
just in reference to nitecore as some ppl prefer the UI to be a certain way as per older models...hence the revision of it back to what ppl would be more comfortable with.

diff manufacturers obviously have their own way, so some will stick to 1 or 2 brands with a UI that they are familiar / like...but of cos there are also many overlaps to serve what is usually 2 or 3 different segments...
some prefer direct to low, some prefer start on medium, etc etc...so not exactly a multitude of options out there...hence also not a problem for manufacturers to offer a small segment of their products catering to these others.

no no no... don't get me wrong. i never meant to allude to you actually saying that your preference is or should be the industry standard. just saying that as long as the industry doesn't stick to a particular ui format, there are bound to be varying options. and yes, i guess different people will have different preference also. hence there's a different market for the different variations (flood/throw/nw/cw/tailswitch/sideswitch etc).
*
oh ok.
but what i meant was that diff brands obviously have their own way of doing things...but as long as the UI isnt just one-dimensional then all is good.

anyway, after reading a review of that TUP...they really nailed the UI this time...and finally a proper lockout mode which went missing in 2017/18 from the TIP.
too bad its abit pricey and big, so yea again i'll just wait for that UI to trickle down to the TIP and TINI.
