Just wondering what is the price they currently offering?

Well i've been 2 year into this sales engineer market but one thing make me sad is the basic pay.

Recently i thinking want to change my job but guess what 6 out of 8 company offer me basic 2.0-2.2k

With my 2 year experience, as a degree holder, i getting 2k average? seem like not a very good future in this sales engineer line...

While my girlfriend, degree holder in business, working in public bank, getting 2.8k as basic?

Its really demotivated me...feel like joining bank industry

Did try to apply other job than sales line but due to my past experience, they will take me as fresh.

Seem engineering not really a good career in KL...

In penang my fren getting 3k as start...here? less than 2.5k

TS, basic salary for a Sales Engineer is always lower
ur target is doing sales for your company
in return you'll get commission (2-4% depends), allowances, claim & etc

sometimes all your claims will be more than your basic salary
everything depends on your sales
better ask again all benefit offered by the company

Question: Are you a good sales engineer?

When it comes to convincing people to pay you more, that is a more relevant factor than whether you have a degree or not.

You are worth only as much as what people are willing to pay you. Not what you think you need or what you think you deserve.

I ask a candidate why you want to leave the company. The first word from his mouth is i want higher pay. His current is RM1.8k and ask for RM2.5k. That is fine when you have a baseline what you want. But when i perform the measurement whether he worth that much, he don't even can speak proper English and yet is a degree holder.

A candidate with request salary of 2.5k basic, but i told her you are worth more than the request salary after screen through her resume as she is skilfull and good. The impress moment is my CLIENT would like to give her the OFFER LETTER on the spot of 1st interview. So this kind of candidate im more than wiling to help her. She finally get an offer of 2.9k. Actually im fight for her 3k, but the employer put into agreement of increase after probation.

IN short, in order other to help you, first you must help yourself first. Look at your skills first, then only get into what pay you deserve, not vice verse.

Last month I went for an interview with a big MNC company
the session went well since the job is almost similar with what i'm currently doing
i'm asking salary for 2.8K, but later after 2 days they call me and offer 3.3K basic salary

now i'm feeling more confidence to secure a job with my current knowledge and exp
never thought that I can beat a few other candidates with 1st Class Degree Holder

Hi all,

For anyone with experience (or opinion), how do you compare being a sales engineer between various industry, especially telecommunication, oil & gas, and electronics industry?

Understand that the nature of the job & working environment is very much the same, but how about customer set/client base/level of competition and of course remuneration package?

Will anyone with business qualification instead of engineering find it too challenging (of course the person would be someone very enthusiastic and a keen learner too)?

Sales engineer need some technical knowledge to backup due to technical issue...

so most likely they wont take business degree...unless u got 2-3 sales experience then they might consider you....

what type of sales engineer are you talking about?

sell parts? sell equipment? service?
i do sales for part before , those are more general sales job but also need some engineering knowledge on material and such

machine of course need to know how it works and support a bit

Okay let's be specific, oil & gas sales engineer. Sells and markets equipment/parts for refineries/plants/rigs. The person came from business background, instead of engineering.

No, I dont have an inside scoop of how it is done & thats why I'm curious. Very curious.

well if u know sales , then no problem one as long they willing to hire u.

Stingrest, you will still need basic technical knowledge when confronting with customer face to face. At least understand on the goods that you're selling. Knowing your goods means you can confidently converse & deal with customer while increasing chances of seizing more deals.

Just to add, the word 'Engineer' means you're technically competent to answer the technical queries. I would say most of the time, they would hire people from engineering background or have experience.

Am wondering do sales engineer get commissions like insurance/bond sellers? Because 2-4% can be alot if the sales is by the millions.

Also most sales engineers work as a team, with other sales engineers & also their technical/commercial counterparts. Younger sales engineers usually do the follow ups from the seniors, and the fact that most jobs are not given by purely the effort of "selling" like insurance/bond/cosmetics etc, where it goes through series of screening & commercial competitiveness.

So in the end sales engineers are merely doing introductions, dealling with customers on sales/after sales services etc, while the success of getting a job depends on the whole team.

i'm sales engineer for OnG company... dip holder and i got better salary plus the allowance... may be i'm lucky guys...

RM3.3k should be the standard rate for that position. for fresh graduates i interviewed, their expectation varied from RM2k all the way to RM3.3k.
end of the day, the ones successfully hired are all getting paid RM2.8k.
