Normally we allow some time for the plants to take root before putting them in. This is part of the cycling period.

Just changed my marimo tank's soil to sand. Coral sand at the bottom layer and shirui sand at the top. Added some coral chips under the sand and in the HOB to increase pH and water hardness. Also changed the filter to a HOB that can accomodate more filter media.

I read that these might possibly be better for the marimo to grow. I'll probably add in some sulawesi shrimps/snails for this setup. Know any where to get the snails?

Might add some twigs or something to spice things up.

Yes it is. Room temperature is around 30. I'm getting around 27-28C.

I like this fan because it saves space and it doesn't impede the light. It works for this 1.5ft tank. Not so effective for 2ft.

Here's the 4" fan I'm using for my 2ft. Really strong. Temperature is about 27C when lights are off and 28C when lights are on. Using the same type of fan for my 3ft tank to achieve the same effect. Surface ripple is really strong.

But note that by using this fan, I don't have much room for lights. I'm only using 55w PL for this shrimp/moss tank. Running an eheim HOB and a 2215 for this tank.

Yep. I top up every night. I'm having the HOB there to keep filter media to absorb copper and also have a bit of crushed corals in it to add some calcium.

There's a filter media from Seachem that will absorb copper. About RM4x. I can't remember the name now though.

Snail shell will dissolve in acidic water. Means anything less than 7 pH. Also, I read that if you use CO2, it will convert to a very weak acid in the water, but will also affect the snail's shell over time.

Yes, crushed coral will increase the pH, but I didn't put a lot, just experiment a bit coz I need some calcium in the water. I saw some shrimps die while molting. After adding them, I didn't have any problems for more than a week.

20% water change every 2 days is pretty drastic and not good for your shrimp's well-being.

What's your tank size and type of filter? And did you use anti chlorine that also removes chloramine?

- my shrimp keep dying..
- Already use the air pump to aerate it.
- result is better that not using it, but the shrimp is still dying..
- i did water top off everyday because of the fan and do 20% water change every 2 days..
- i also didn't user any fert.
- but still the shrimp is dying.
- im using filtered tab water..
- average temp is about 28C to 27C
- it is because of the copper in the tap water that cause this?

I suspect it could be the same with me. Coz our pipes have a large amount of rust. That's why I use the Seachem Copper/Heavy Metal absorber in a filter. Also, how do you place your canister's outlet? If you place it slightly above water level, you can get lots of surface agitation, which means more oxygen.

If you're using amazonia soil, pH should be about 6.5.

To me, nothing is more annoying in planted tank than getting algae on my moss.

There's a Stiphodon species of fish that eats bba, apparently. I have 2 in my 3ft planted tank. Seems to be working so far. Quite cute too.

The setup for the jellyfish looks like freshwater though. I forgot to ask... distracted by the african filter shrimp.

Yeah, our tap water isn't great. I mean, every weekend when I wash my outdoor water filter, the stuff that comes out looks like black coffee or milo.

Chuppy @ try not using Excel see how... im trying to know what is the problem will caused BBA come... and my glosso keep on melting....

How did you end up with excessive phosphorous? Overfeeding / overstocking? And pH value of 4? That's really low. Maybe glosso can't take it.

What's your setup like? Including fauna and temp.

Or did you introduce any new plants or rocks lately?

added in 1 cap of RM1 anti- chlorine...

Means you're not getting rid of chloramine... bad for your beneficial bacteria and fauna if in large volume.

cause the chloramine expensive...
Sarawak have chloramine apparently.

So I'll assume Klang Valley would have it. Better be safe than sorry.

Argh ... the planaria is infesting my tank badly, i wonder if ghost shrimp will hunt and eat them one by one?
*
If you have other shrimps in the tank, I won't advice it. Ghost shrimps are too aggressive to be kept with smaller shrimps.

Bumblebee goby. Not that easy to take care though. Good luck!

Here's one of my new sulawesi shrimps in my marimo shrimp tank.

hmm u cannot disturb the tank like that.

when i rescape i will move all my shrimps to somewhere, then rescape then only move them back once the tank is stable

Not to mention that some shrimps might get buried by the soil or crushed by your tools/hands.

Excel is just a partial solution to your problem. Need to determine the root of the issue, else those excel overdose will just harm your fauna.

Added on June 14, 2010, 11:00 amAquarium busuk could be due to dead fauna. A dead nerite snail maybe? Won't be due to NLS pellets. You got lots of bubles/foam on your water surface?
