Tips & Tricks

Registry Edit*:
*Nobody will responsible if you damage your device by altering the registry value. Do it at your own risk.

01. Auto Disconnecting Idle Data Connections in WM6
CODE
HKLM\Comm\ConnMgr\Planner\Settings\SuspendResume=GPRS_bye_if_device_off
HKLM\Comm\ConnMgr\Planner\Settings\CacheTime=60
Save & reboot. source

02. Hide SIM contact in contact list
CODE
HKCU\ControlPanel\Phone\ShowSim=1
Unfortunately for B7330, it will revert back to 0 after restart. Try to use SIMShowHide app.

03. Disable sms threading & enable sms sent notification
CODE
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Inbox\Settings\OEM\SMSInboxThreadingDisabled=1
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Inbox\Settings\SMSNoSentMsg=0
Save & reboot. source

or install this little .cab file to execute both. reboot after install. view spoiler to download. source
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

04. Change Start Menu Order
CODE
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Shell\StartMenu\Order
You can arrange for 10 shourcut of yours. Save & reboot. source

Settings:

01. Don't receive incoming beams!

Start>Settings>Connections>Beam>Uncheck Receive Incoming Beams

Check it only when you want to receive file from others.

02. Disable 3G connection

To avoid unnecessary 3G cost. Credit to shiniraz.

Start -> Setting -> Connection -> GPRS -> New:
Description : Dummy
Connects to : The Internet
Authentication : CHAP
Primary DNS : 0.0.0.0
Secondary SMS : 0.0.0.0
IP Address : 0.0.0.0

Then to set the phone to use this "Dummy" connection:
Start -> Setting -> Connection -> Menu -> Advance ::
Internet Connection : Dummy
(Please use this step to revert back to your data connection setting)

welcome to this thread! you are no 2 in the list!

camera is OK. bad thing they don't make the camera half press to focus first, then full press to snap.

internet i would suggest you to install opera (mobile or mini. i prefer mobile). much2 more better experience.

ok, will do that. Opera mobile is better which version? I wish this phone has a trackball/pad. Then it will be the BEST phone. The phot quality is way better than my Omnia I900.

spec wise, e72 is better than b7330. yet, it back to how your phone usage. for me, i've used e71 before, but change to b7330 due to better sms handling & because it is Windows Mobile! symbian is good but i am so used to windows mobile environment. outlook PIM sync is also better for wm phone, compared to those symbian.

Guys,

Can this phone set repetitive alert for missed call or unread sms?
Means that the alert will keep on repeating until we read the sms or see the miscalled notification.

thanks

How much did you bought?
If you find any great accessories, do update here ok.

I've try to install "NoData" app to this phone. *NoData is an app that can blocked your 3G data connection.
For me, i dont need 3G data connection, WIFI id enuff..
The problem that i faced is it seems the setup is that it did not works until the next reboot, which i find quit troublesome.

So the method that i've used, create a dummy Access point:
Start -> Setting -> Connection -> GPRS -> New:
Description : Dummy
Connects to : The Internet
Authentication : CHAP
Primary DNS : 0.0.0.0
Secondary SMS : 0.0.0.0
IP Address : 0.0.0.0

Then to set the phone to use this "Dummy" connection:
Start -> Setting -> Connection -> Menu -> Advance : :
Internet Connection : Dummy
(Please use this step to revert back to your data connection setting)

try to browse to google...Tadaaa... and now your phone will not make any unnecessary 3G data connection to the internet.

Havent try S2U2 yet.. thought that it is more suitable for touch screen phone?

Have tried SPB on my old Samsung i780. again, i thought it's more suitable for touch screen phone.
But after taking another look at the SPB site, thinking to install it back to my b7330...(hunting for pirates beginnnnnsss tongue.gif)

Hello All,

Been using B7330 since March 2010. Initially face great difficulty with Internet browsing as it is not touch screen.

Few questions to ask:-
1) Where can I download (Free) Garmin GPS Software + Map of Malaysia & Singapore?

2) Does anyone know how to switch off the sound of the camera? Is there anyway to increase the shutter speed?

3) Whenever I connect my notebook to use my HP for 3G Broadband, after usage, all HP setting goes haywired.
Does anyone has the same experience? Is this a firmware problem? Can this be solved?

Thank you.

I have both plus Omnia I-900. I think i prefer qwerty rather than touch screen. B7330 has a better camera, photo quality is comparable to my old Nokia N73. Even my I-900 ( 5 MP) is of lower quality.

BUT, HTC Snap has 1 advantage, the trackball, it so much easier while browsing the web, as compared to B7330's D=Pad.

Cheers

back to basic, to play the specific file format, you will need the correct codec. core player can play most of multimedia format.

b7330 bigger screen and front facing camera for video call!

OK now my question, anybody know how to custom some of the key (e.g.: internet key, messaging key). and how to remove the unwanted chinese input. it is quite annoying to press the Alt key several time to rotate between abc-123-chinese input-abc again.

cheers!

it is a touch screen anyway and ported with WinMo Pro 6.5.

yeap, the advantage for aspen were touch screen ~~~~ i know is little bit small for a touch screen ...

disadvantage,... i thought it should be 5mp camera and this 3.2 were like no different with b7330.

but one advantage for e72.

nokia still provide firmware update .

and i think aspen and b7330 were born to be orphan.....no more support .......

what wrong with current firmware? my complaint only sometimes the virate does not stop. need to press end button to make it stop.

software wise, can't compare aspen 1-to-1 with b7330. aspen=WM Pro, b7330=WM Std

These 2 WM version are differ very much now. Back to your preference / experience either to have touchscreen or not.

I am very glad with Office Mobile 2010, we can create Word & Excel on b7330, which is not capable with the stock Office Mobile.

Just bought my B7330 yesterday. I used a Samsung i600 previously, so basically it's the same phone except better specs. In fact, in just one night, I have customized my B7330 to exactly the same feel as my old i600 LOL. I'm writing this on my B7330. Here's my list of Pros & cons I've accumulated so far after a day of use:
Pros:
1) Windows mobile Standard. I just like the seamless integration with Desktop outlook, no touchscreen hassles, longer battery life (probably because no touchscreen), exchange server, internet sharing, softkeys, physical qwerty (what's the deal with all touchscreen nowadays anyway?), many apps (yes iphone has thousands of apps, but too much of something can be bad too; I just need fundamental apps) etc.
2) Bigger RAM. In i600, I can only open 2 or 3 apps (especially if using Opera mobile or tcpmp), but now with bigger RAM, I can open so many apps at the same time
3) Alt+alphabet is shortcut assignment to apps. Love it. Makes it easy to open hard to open apps which reside in folders upon folders like Docs to go or Tasks.
4) video call quality is much better than i600.
5) bigger screen. can see so much more now in one page
6) Garmin. love it
7) louder speaker.
8) better quality camera pictures
9) bigger storage memory
10) Battery lasts so long, even with GPS on. I was on GPS for 4 hours today, & battery still have 4 bars left
11) copy & paste are now integrated in most windows native apps like Contacts, Tasks, Calendar. This was sorely missing in i600, which makes me almost jumped to WM professional, but now with the integration, I don't need to be jealous of the capabillity of my touchscreen copy & paste friends, although, there's still one app which is sorely missing of this: Opera mobile
12) 7.2mbps HSDPA as opposed to i600's 1.1mbps. Definitely makes a lot of difference in terms of surfing speed. Although Malaysia's broadband never exceed 3.6mbps.
13) Most apps I used in i600 (which was 4 OS versions earlier (WM5, WM6, WM6.1, WM6.5)) can still be used in B7330! amazing. Saves me so much time searching for newer apps version
Cons:
1) the symbols above the letters buttons are terribly coloured & thus hard to see at night
2) it's hard to type symbols now compared to i600. With i600, there is a dedicated symbol button, where if u press the symbol button with ur left thumb, u can quickly press required symbols using ur right thumb, but now, the button is gone. Now, to choose symbol, u either hold the required symbols' buttons (which takes longer time) or toggle the Alt button between alphabets, chinese or symbol (even longer)
3) the envelope button opens a 'new message'. wish it maintained i600's which opened the message app. Now, needs a few steps to open message app. I resolve it finally by using Alt+button assignment, but requires both hands to achieve this
4) no flash, so, poor quality pictures at night
5) graphics are no match to new phones (AMOLED, higher resolution, million colours etc). At the shop yesterday, I almost bought samsung wave just because of the screen, but i restrained because of WM simplicity out of the box, & since I had been so invested in WM standard, & i can't stand customizing new phones to the way I like
6) Garmin. I'm not sure whether this is isolated to me only, but it's so hard to get a fix in my car. Probably it's the vkool elite tint's fault, but it dropped satellite signals a lot, & sometimes when it's engaged, it showed me being in indonesia. If anyone also has this problem, & knows how to resolve it, please contact me
7) like i600, it also cannot auto-record phone calls. Wish somebody can develop this app, like the guy who develops ACR for windows mobile professional
Guess that's all for now. Will update if there's anything else

welcome emy_77! you are now in the owner list.

sorry didn't reply your PM. tried VITO audio notes (as you suggest) yet still wonder why it can't record calls, as advertised.

on the pinyin (chinese character) thing, i try to play around with the registry but yet no success. i can remove the pinyin option, but it cause SYM button not working. i think it looks like the SYM function is loaded into pinyin dll file.

on opera mobile, there is option for 'select text' when you press and hold the middle button.

on GARMIN, try to load XTRA Data before you go out travel. anyway, it would be lovely if this phone support A-GPS.

any good software to share with? laugh.gif

hi uan
Thanks for the welcome
Do you know there's new firmware for B7330? You can find it here (need to register 1st to be able to go the page): http://samsung-firmware.webs.com/WEBPROTEC...sungwmb7330.htm
I haven't upgraded to the new firmware yet, because I'm afraid it will brick my phone. If you dare, you can try it. If you tried it, do inform me the results smile.gif I asked in the forum what the new firmware does, but nobody has replied yet. Maybe the firmware can resolve some of the problems I'm facing.
On Audio Notes, yes it's disappointing that it can't auto call record
On chinese character, thanks for trying, I'm getting a hang of it, so, maybe after a few more weeks of use, I'll get used to it
On Opera Mobile, what version are you using? I'm using 8.65, & there is no feature that if I press center button, I can select and copy the text. At the moment, copy can only be done on links, where you click Menu then copy text or copy link.
On GPS, I saw the XTRA option, but never tried. Will give it a try. I think it's like QuickGPS in HTC phones. On A-GPS, I thought it has it? Isn't that why google maps can locate me even without turning on my GPS?
I have more pro's & cons of the phone after a few more days of use of the phone. I'll post it next

Added on July 21, 2010, 7:51 pmmore pros & cons:
pros:
1. Have LED Indicator: green: wifi, gps, battery full, purple: new email, red: charging, connecting to 3G, blue: bluetooth
2. wifi don't disconnect when screen's off (because there's option to 'don't disconnect wifi when screen's off'). & even when we choose to off wifi when screen's off, when screen's on again, wifi quickly reconnects (which i600 doesn't do)
3. can play youtube directly from opera using arcsoft streaming player
4. when watching using youtube player via wifi, video is clear & don't stutter (in i600, video is clear but stutters)
5. can use keyboard letters to go directly to desired names (in contacts & phone), filenames (in explorer (except s), link (opera), except resco registry & tasks
cons:
1. cannot use tpcmp
2. no scroll wheel
3. 7.2mbps HSDPA speed is not noticeable, max 400kbps only. This is more to Celcom capping policy
4. no back slash symbol. need to use smiley in SMS app. Add~text~emoticon~3rd page,* (\)
5. when searching in sms, button z & b cannot be used, showed square. Also, in general, SMS app is also very slow.
6 Sometimes, setting doesn't respond
7. wifi disconnected in the middle of surfing internet. And the icon completely disappeared. Need to restart the phone to get the wifi icon back. This is one of the biggest bug I am facing at the moment. Hope the new firmware resolve this problem.

thanks emy for the info!

i've managed to flash my phone, 4 times actually! flash with latest firmware B7330DXJE1. funny things is that after it reboot, then some preconfiguration and the phone ask (force) to restart. after restart then the language change to vietnamese!

after some reading and experimenting, B7330DXJE1 actually contain english and vietnam language. find your way to languange setting, set to english and restart again, you will get English again. for those who need chinese, sorry guys.

just playing around a little, Alt key changes from abc to 123 (no pinyin). Sym key is default (meaning to launch ie you need to press n hold).

other differences i'll update later. it's 230 now. need to load back all software and PIM tomorrow.

Added on July 22, 2010, 2:34 amah, default font is different now. not segoe condensed anymore. not sure what font is it. i'll explore more and report.

Wah so quick. You're so adventurous uan. Hope you'd give more feedback about it before I try it. Are you going to keep the firmware or will you flash back to the old firmware? Some questions:
1) Is it confirmed that the pinyin is gone with this firmware? Will definitely will give it a try if it is. But you're Chinese, aren't you? With the pinyin gone, wouldn't it be hard to write chinese?
2) Does the new font look ok? Any screen capture? I like the current segoe condensed font actually
3) Do you use wifi a lot? Is there a problem of it disapperaring in the middle of surfing with the firmware?
4) Can you try AudioNotes on it to auto-record calls? Does it work?
Thanks for the feedbacks
Regards

seems like only we 2 having the fun rite now... tongue.gif
1) pinyin is gone. vietnamese dont use pinyin. i'm not chinese, i am malaysian!
2) screen capture as below. still dont know what is the font. in registry still stated font name is segoe condensed.
Attached Image

3) aha. i had the problem once today. restart and until now wifi missing thing is OK.
4) sorry emy, try audio note but still the same. 0B and 01-Jan01 at the below bar. I wonder what is the problem.

improvement /findings so far:
1-feels like menu navigation is a lot snappy. or just my feeling?
2-StartUp folder was empty. no those unused application (i.e.Mobile Tracker process)
3-not much difference in other aspect. still looking for update log... sweat.gif

Unfortunately uan, B7330 isn't as popular as Nokia E71, so, that's why not a lot of responses to the posts smile.gif
1) You know what I mean wink.gif Anyway, good to know pinyin is really gone. Very good reason to upgrade the firmware now. I'll probably upgrade next week. Got some things to do this week, and need the phone in working order
2) Font looks similar. I don't notice any difference
3) So, the wifi bug is still there sad.gif
4) Disappointing sad.gif

About the findings:
1- Nice
2- Should I be worried Startup folder is empty? What's Mobile Tracker? I didn't know it existed until you brought it up. Is it used to track our phone if it went missing? How do I track it?
3- Good luck with looking for the update log. I've been searching and asking around for weeks but nobody seems to know it huhu.. Seems like Samsung just made the firmware but never bothered to inform what it does

Also, for SMS, when I first had the phone, I found it laggy, but now, it seems ok to me. I don't remember what I did to make it ok. However, if you read the forum in the firmware website, they mentioned the new firmware has the SMS laggy problem again. However, if you read post no 6 in this thread,
http://samsung-firmware.webs.com/apps/foru...e-b7330dxjc2-fw
it mentions about using a different csc file. If you have SMS laggy problem, you might want to give this a try

yes. sms is a bit lag on repositioning cursor position. but i'm OK with it. dont want to take the risk combining asian pda file with european scs file. anyway, those post were in may.

StartUp folder (in \windows\startup) is where winmo load application and shortcuts when the system started. if you can browse to this folder, you can see 3-4 shortcuts available. this shortcuts launches application / process and some of it stay as background process. even a small process require the hardware resources.

Battery feels last longer. still need to confirm back on this.

Again, all home screen as what it had in previous firmware...

i flashed once again my 7330 but now with different CSC file.
Attached Image

what i have:
1. default english language
2. no pinyin
3. back to segoe condensed font (hate this)
4. new sms button working again
5. back to normal speed when typing and cursor repositioning
6. different SYM window:
Attached Image

still haven't try call recording (sorry emy) but i think it would not work neither.

Added on August 1, 2010, 1:23 pmon vito call recording:

"Does VITO AudioNotes record phone calls on all devices?
VITO AudioNotes doesn't record phone calls on Pocket PC due to OS and hardware restrictions. It records phones calls only on Windows Mobile 5.0 Smartphones. Sometimes it also doesn't record phone calls on Windows Mobile 5.0 Smartphones due to hardware restrictions. Currently VITO AudioNotes does not record phone calls on Moto Q and Samsung BlackJack"

source: http://vitotechnology.com/support.php#2

so, vito audio notes does not record call on wm6.5...

Hi uan,
Thanks for the update. I still haven't upgraded the firmware yet. Looks like the most functionalities that I want are all there in the new firmware except auto-call recording. Will give it a try soon smile.gif
Just want to ask one thing. What app do you use to show the digital clock at the top-bar? Thank you

Hi uan,
Are you still on the new firmware? Am finally thinking of upgrading it next week. From your feedbacks, everything looks good except the lack of mobile tracker. Should I be worried this is not present? I lost my phone once & having mobile tracker might be helpful
Thanks!

hi emy. if you have no problem with current firmware, my advice is just stay with it. unless you want to try something new.

the reason is that i can't find the firmware file for the factory installed firmware. in case for fallback plan. second, i can't find what is the update log for those said 'latest' firmware.

mobile tracker i've never activated it because nothing i hear so far somebody had trace their lost phone from the service.

Yes, I love this phone too. The battery life, as is with all Samsung Windows smartphones (non touch-screen), is amazing (I had i600 before which battery life is amazing too, & that only had 1000mAh, while B7330 has 1500mAh). I upgraded the firmware recently & it made B7330 even better, because my complaint before this was that the alt button toggles between alphabet, symbols/numbers & pinyin (chinese characters), which I don't use. With the new firmware, the pinyin toggle is gone, & so, now it's easier to type because just alphabet & symbols/numbers are available now (note: you'll lose Mobile tracker function with the upgrade though, which I don't use anyway, because it's not everyday you lose your phone tongue.gif). I also like the shortcut 'Alt + letters on keyboard'. Makes it easier to open any app from the home screen. And also, main reason I still stick to Windows Mobile Standard (Smartphone) OS rather than move to Windows Mobile Professional or Android etc is the shortcut in the softkey menus, where you can quickly jump to the menu options by typing the number of the associated menus.
About browser, at the moment, I'm still using Opera Mobile 8.65. Is Opera Mobile 10 really that good? Maybe will give it a try later. Infact I'm writing this reply on my B7330 using Opera Mobile 8.65.
My only gripe still is the message button. With i600, I was so used to it opening the message app, so that I can quickly flip through emails & sms, but now, had to long-press before can open it. Short press creates New Message instead. Wish B7330 has an active developer/hacker group (which it doesn't) which can fix issues like this.
I wonder if anyone has bought the new Samsung Omnia Pro 5. It's basically B7330, but with the audio port changed to standard 3.5mm plug instead of microusb, which I wished B7330 has. But actually, other than that, Omnia Pro 5 is a downgrade with smaller screen, lower resolution camera & lower HSDPA max speed.
So, I think overall, after almost a year, I'm pleased with B7330, & hoped that Windows will continue making Windows Mobile Standard phone rather than focusing on the new Windows Phone 7 only (no true multi-task, copy & paste & microsd slot!)

agree. this phone is very good, it give me headache for my next phone. application wise, so far, i manage to have all app i need. function wise, it has more function then other new phone (vid call especially). performance wise, good batt life + less hang, i'm very happy with it.

people always mistaken this phone with bb, it is not easy to explain to them...
"kau punya ni blekberi eh?" doh.gif

and if you use iTalk, the iTalk client/dialer is working perfectly.

Just received my b7330 yesterday. Bought it when my i780 sink in recent flood sad.gif

So far experience is good. Multitasking and speed is also acceptable, can open 5 applications without noticeable lagging on the device.

Being a previous wm professional user, xda zinc, htc touch 3g and i780, my only quirk is I can't copy and paste between application. I copy paste a lot from several application, i.e notes, onenotes to my email when replying emails. Also can't find notes application, although there is a voice note which I don't use.

Is there a workaround for this, or do I have to live without the ability to copy paste between applications?

I have an external charger with my previous i780, is there any similar charger for b7330? Tried searching the web, but can't find any.

B7330 does have onenotemobile at Start>Application>Office Mobile. However, onenotemobile doesn't sync to Outlook on PC & it also doesn't have Copy & Paste.

Since B7330 is WM6.5, it does have Copy & Paste but only with its native apps like Calendar, Contacts, Email and Tasks (press Menu> Copy/Paste & you can select using shift button + left/right nav pad). Earlier version, like B7320 is WM6.1 & doesn't have Copy & Paste. Some 3rd party apps also have Copy & Paste like Opera Mobile 10 (free) & Documentstogo (paid). For me, to resolve problem with taking quick notes, I use either Task or Wordtogo. For Task, you can write notes at the 'Notes' field, which you need to scroll all the way down to reach. To reach these apps quick, I use the Alt+keypad shortcut which can be customized at Start>Settings>Alt key settings. I assigned Alt+T for Tasks & Alt+W for Wordtogo. I can then Copy & Paste quickly to my email, browser etc

What external charger are you talking about? Wall-plug? Weren't you provided with one when you bought it? Anyway, you can just buy any microusb wall-plug charger at Low Yat or any phone shop

Hi emy,

Yes I noticed the b7330 come with Office Mobile, but it doesn't have copy & paste like their wm pro siblings. You can sync onenote with microsoft onenote if you have it installed on your pc, just upgrade your office mobile to version 2010, free from microsoft marketplace.

I use onenote to store a lot of notes which act as an email template, so I can use them when replying emails. However, I think I have found the solution for this, since I'm using IMAP for my emails, I just create a template folder and store all my email templates there and sync it the mail application.

Also another feature that the wm standard email application didn't have is the ability to insert quick text in your email. Really useful feature. Wonder why microsoft crippled the wm standard email application when handphone that are using are them meant to be a use as a messaging set.

A standalone external charger, which is a separate case where you put your battery in it, plug in the microusb charger cable and charge your battery. Didn't have to charge your battery through your handset. It came standard with the i780 box set. Really practical if you have more than one battery.

guys, i used to use vito copypaste, but while killing some of my valuable time looking for other alternatives, i bump into SmartToolkit by e-Natives http://smarttoolkit.wordpress.com/

as expected, no more development for this free software. last updated on Apr-2009.

i wonder why only now i come across to this tool because it is very good and useful tools.

what it does:

1. copy, cut and paste function from/to any window
Attached Image

2. vista/seven like start menu.
Attached Image

3. task manager from any window
Attached Image

4. small clock at the tray bar
5. autolock function + screensaver
6. skinning

and much more. please read e-Natives blog. I've tried RC9 but it seems to hang frequent. RC8 is considered quite stable. I'll attach RC8 at front page since the link at the blog already dead.

Added on November 13, 2010, 3:23 pmoh. some notes on the skin. B7330 user need to do something before it works properly.

in the skin folder i.e.: \Program Files\SmartToolkit\skins\My Phone Vista make a copy (duplicate) 320x240.skin file and rename it to 320x320.skin (or just simply rename 320x240.skin to 320x320.skin).

hope this help.

"02. Disable 3G connection"

hopefully not need to suffer the same mistake again
accidently use 3G, mistakenly thought using wifi ..... huge bill sad.gif

Added on December 17, 2010, 2:12 pmFunny. I suppose disabled both 3G AND the wap connection using "dummy".

But somehow the phone still manages to open websites and surf using "dummy" ???

In Wireless Manager-Menu. I have to "Disconnect Cellular Data"

I think the only safe way is off the phone.

something to share. if you encounter your Windows Media fail to run and all system sound (ring tone, warning) does not work, just delete all folder in "\Application Data\Volatile"

I've a weird problem this morning.

My emails (using google imap) cannot connect to the email server, though I can browse the web fine. I didn't change any settings on the phone, the connection is Celcom 3G Internet. Even deleting and creating the email account didn't solve the problem.

Any of you ever encountered this kind of problem on the b7330?

good day!
b7330 owner here !
just woke up this morning and found out that my phone couldnt play any music and sound. alarm and ringtone wont work. msn msg tone gone. and lastly i found out that i cant open my window media player. the only sound left is the sound played during the start up screen, keypad tone and garmin voice command.

Is my window media player corrupted? is re-installing window media player will fix the prob? any solution? thx..

yes, this will happen again if the folder is full again. for precaution, just clear the folder from time to time.

I searched everywhere but did not find.

I now have this cooked version
