What's the weak point in your headfi/hifi system that you want to improve?

@liquidgal thanks for all the recommendation, make me have more choices for the cable! currently my budget probably around rm500 - rm1k,i dont really know the weak point of my audio set and what part to improve(still new in this audiophile world sweat.gif ), currently using the PC Laptop > FiiO e09k + e17 combo > grado PS1000, for the usb cable im just using the rm20 cable..

currently also waiting for the Graham Slee Solo Ultra-Linear Diamond Edition AMP to reach me, so one by one would like to improve my setup. next is to get better DAC.

from all the links that u gave me, kinda interested in the audioquest, wireworld, furutech and the century audio.. do u sell all those cable, if yes would appreciate if u could PM me the quotation price and probably the best for my setup (and future setup)

lastly if i buy the USB A to B, is there any adapter for the B to Mini-B..

thanks again! thumbup.gif

@aimtenso In my opinion, digital cable aren't all that important in the system.
Digital signal can't degrade like analog signal do, so I'd rather use that money on something else that might give a greater return.

Just my opinion without scientific experiment to test it out but yeah, hope this helps.

hey, thanks for the advice! still got so many things to learn in this audiophile world.

from my experience, my ears do feel there's improvement in sound quality after changing fm normal cable to the black octagon cables (interconnect & RCA), and from all the readings in the net, i see many ppl saying there's improvement after changing the cables/digital cables n etc, saying that everything is a chain or sumthin like that in the audio world, LOL wallet rape much sweat.gif ...

i dont really know all the scientific and electrical terms, but i hope i could have the best for my audio setup in my budget~

i wish im in KL so i could audition all the audio gears and etc, sadly now in Labuan for working, cant find any high end audio shop here... cry.gif

anyway, thanks for the advice! still got long way to go and much things to learn in this audio world notworthy.gif

Agree with @josephting opinion. The weakest point of your headfi system now, is the dac and amp.
e09k and e17 is very good in that price range, but they still not good enough to release the potential of your PS1000.
I think your set up now will sound a little bit thin, the outline of the sound is not warm and solid enough.
If your budget is up to RM1000, can keep your e17 as a dac, and upgrade for a better amp.

Digital cable definitely makes different, especially in hi-end set up.
But for entry level equipment less than 1k, I won't suggest the user to buy an usb cable more than RM300.
For me, Belkin gold usb (this one won 2013 TAS EDITORS' CHOICE AWARDS http://www.theabsolutesound.com/articles/2...interconnects/) or Amazon Basic usb which only around RM50 is already good enough. haha.

Yup, that's the thing, must upgrade my setup, for the amp, i just bought the graham slee super ultra linear diamond edition + PSU1, waiting for it to arrive around end of this month or early next month...

My next upgrade would be the dac & USB cable, graham slee majestic DAC the price makes me shock, need to find any good DAC to pair up with super ultra linear + PS1000, that's why now I'm looking for good USB cable, I'm willing to pay extra now so that no need to upgrade in the future(hopefully lol)

Thanks for the advice! Will take consideration in every aspect! Thank you biggrin.gif

Do you have any rca cable? If not, I'll suggest you to get a good rca cable first after upgrade your dac and amp.

I see. It's better to get a dac first. Burn in the new set up for around 200 hours.
When the sound become stable, try to find out the weak point and buy a usb cable that can improve your system. smile.gif

ps. Sound signature of PS1000 and Solo Diamond both are slightly bright and active. I think you should get a thicker and warmer dac and balance the sound signature. smile.gif

Sure, it's difficult to choose. Reviews won't sing for you~ haha biggrin.gif
It's easier to make a decision if you have a chance to try them before.
Anyway, what's your budget for DAC and RCA cables?

i look around for DAC in the net and kinda interested in cambridge audio DAC Magic Plus or the centrance DACmini..

hope it could nicely pair up with the graham slee ultra linear diamon edition that will arrive soon...

look for the graham slee new majestic DAC+pre amp but the price... 1600 GBP cry.gif

must do more readings to see which the best... look around in alo audio and schiit now~

I'll suggest you use all budget to buy a dac first. haha. You can get a very top dac around 4k~5k.
There are many many many many......good dac within this price range.
Cambridge is good below RM2000, but it's not competitive around 2k~4k.

cables are important, but it should be the last part to upgrade in the whole system.

As a seller, I'll be very happy if customer buy whole set of equipment. hehe smile.gif

But as a headfier, I'll suggest you to upgrade step by step. Get your amp first, burn in for 200 hours, find out the weak point that need to be improved, and find a dac which can solve this problem.

I've seen too many headfiers buy headphone + amp + dac + cable in the same time, and sold out all of them after few weeks or few months because they dun like the sound signature of that combination.
Mix and match are very important in the world of hifi/headfi. Best or most expensive + best or most expensive equipment might not equal to BEST SOUND. That's why I always suggest people buying things step by step, especially hi-end products. smile.gif

There are alot of DACs at that range which gives you alot of choices, some of the items on the top on my head right now I could think is

TEAC UD-501 , Yulong DA8, Matrix X-Sabre (all DSD compatible cool.gif )

But to be honest once you reached a certain point in DACs, I personally feel the diminishing returns on DACs is far greater compared to investing in a better set of headphones(speakers) and amps instead.

Woo Audio WA6-SE is pretty alright so far, pretty good on low impedance cans but DNA Stratus has caught my eye instead for the HD800 compared to Woo Audio WA5.

If my memory is right, isn't Labuan a tax free zone? Even if you import items above RM500 and if the rules apply, you shouldn't be taxed regardless which makes it attractive if you stay there tongue.gif

Woo Audio has a regional distributor located in Singapore and for the price they're offering counting taxes/shipping, I would say the prices are fairly good.

nice~ really hope to own WA5 for tube amp, lots of good review for woo audio makes me wanna listen to them, but after add all the upgrades, the price #$%#$@ ph34r.gif

currently in Labuan just for work, 3 months job then back to KL then probably back again in Labuan, for things that weigh more than 10kg better to send it back home... cry.gif

thanks for the info, will try compare singapore & direct from woo, which one better value, but 1st need to save money... really need one for permanent at home(probably tube amp like woo audio) and one slightly portable (awaiting for graham slee diamond edtn) so can bring when working offshore biggrin.gif

Should be an easy job. Just remove the cheap headphone and attach a 3.5mm stereo socket, and you have your volume control. icon_rolleyes.gif
