Anyone notice that History HD logo turns monochrome? brows.gif

well the question is not only of bandwidth but stability. a lot of people in the US use it and not many of them are having 20Mbps ...

read this somewhere: "Slingbox needs about 500Kbps of upload bandwidth to have acceptable image and sound, and requires close to 1Mbps for the best quality"

I assume this is non-HD material - anyone on a perfectly stable 1MBps upstream connection?

perhaps someone can check on the Slingbox website the actual bandwidth requirements

I decline to comment until the topic of HD streaming pops up. I can understand the need to watch TV and I can see the possibility of enjoying streaming SD video. But B.yond's HD video is already encoded at 8Mbps (some people say) and that's MPEG-4 video. If you want the streaming box to sling it back to you over the internet to your notebook, you better make sure you have 8Mbps upload broadband service at home and 8Mbps download service at where ever you are. Otherwise, what you're getting is a mush of re-encoded low-bandwidth video that is re-encoded again.

slingbox - I think they re-encode stuff and have algorithms to determine compression depending on available bandwidth. It sounds like it'll never send out a signal as-is i.e no way it'll stream the HD video. You can watch the hd channel via slingbox, but it'll be re-encoded into a 1mbps stream at best

if you're thinking of going, please go - we need more people to support sports in the venue and less in armchair. otherwise these sporting events will not find their way here any more...

Question for Justin

As has been announced all over, Sony is choosing some cities to show the World Cup in 3D - what does it take for the local broadcaster has to have the capability to transmit 3D? I imagine slightly higher bandwidth? Does Astro have this capability? I guess what I'm getting at is - will there be any opportunity for anyone to show WC 2010 in 3D in KL

1) What is B.yond V4.0?

this question is answered in the first posting of this thread.

2) Regarding the sounds quality, if I put the coaxial cable, will the sounds volume improve?
*
depends on what you are using now. quality and volume are not related, however.

QUOTE(horseman @ May 12 2010, 09:38 AM)
3) Some of my friends said that there is subtitles for certain movies on HBO HD. Is that true? I have seen some ads on some movies that it's come with the subtitle, such as The Pacific, The Professional, Speed Racer and etc...but when when I tune it on, there is nothing. Is it because of the my decoder's systems?
*
there are no subtitles on HBO HD. HBO and HBO HD show the same movies - and there are subs on HBO only.

frankly I don't want subtitles (anywhere, for that matter, not only HD) unless they are close captioned.

actually I'm quite pleased they can broadcast a local event in HD. least we're not so backwards.

too bad about the badminton, but realistically, was anyone even optimistic?
