what is it called?

kernel-flasher-maemo. After installing, you can directly flash the kernel (adjust the clock speed and limit) from your device.

NOTE: Speeds above 900Mhz is very risky, please do not try it unless you're willing to be the guinea pig for testing.

800MHz actually. There's definitely improvement while browsing the web. Rite now I'm browsing with a fan in front of me. Haha.. biggrin.gif It's freaking hot here man. From  what I've read, I'm pretty sure I need to manually flash my N900 when the new 1.2 update rolls out. Small matter for the speed I get.
*
From MaemoTalk forum, the members are worried about the heat generated by the CPU after overclock.

From other websites, they also did overclock on the same ARM Cortex A8 processor, those experts were saying the is unlikely heat issue. The heat is actually caused by the "battery".
I'm not sure, maybe someone can confirm after the phone gets hot, turn off the phone and remove the battery and check if it's the phone hot or the battery that's hot.

Even the DC-11 gets hot when charging the N900.

Hey guys,

Need some help...

i oc my N900 through PC using flash kernel to 800mhz... Once its done in 2 second it come out a white boot screen... then it off again...When i press the power button to boot, the screen came out same white screen then go off again.. it failed to load into the device.. duno what happen? Any GURU out there??
*
Did you flash wrongly?
Try re-flash the kernel again. Make sure do it correctly.

If no, reflash back to stock kernel image.

If all else fail, you might need to re-flash the whole firmware, which means you'll loose all your settings, etc. You need to restore from backup (if you have backup that is).

QUOTE(aruja_69 @ Apr 7 2010, 12:34 PM)
For those who brought ap set is there any problem u are facing?
*
Why? AP are still Original, it's just model for different country.

Currently, for N900, it isn't a worldwide model yet like others. Most AP should be US set or EUR set.

The problem is the support. Authorised set will get full support from Nokia Malaysia.

Agree with Aspire. Its really about the warranty thing. In my opinion, its better to get Ori for high end expensive phones. But the price difference is really tempting sometimes
*
N900 is a slightly different case. There were no ORI and no news about ori. Many hardcore owners have ask Nokia but no answer, even asked Nokia International. The reply was "Not going to launch in APAC". If you've been following the scene when N900 was launch, they were many blogs and inquiry about N900 coming to Malaysia. I myself have call up many times, and the don't even know what is that model at first!

Before AP N900 comes in, those people who import it are selling over RM3.3K initially. and then lowered a more people start selling.

When I brought my N900 to Nokia shop to configure the bluetooth (unable to pair), the guy who did for me did not say a word. While pairing half way, finally he asked how much I bought the N900. When i told him he price, he totally lost his cool and was so shocked.
And some people come in this forum and say the N900 is expensive? Haha, those who know smartphone pricing and also Nokia phones pricing, would know current Official set selling at RM2280 is actually VERY good bargain.

Anyway, back then when I went to the Nokia shop, they still have no news about the N900; And how shy Nokia shop don't sell it while AP companies are selling it. Probably due to high demand, finally Nokia Malaysia and Singapore decided to bring it in officially?
Even the price shock AP sellers, if I may say it.

As long you don't run constant max clock speed, it should be ok. The other devices with similar processor have been OC for months already. N900 is just starting the footstep.

For Moto Milestone/Droid, the most stable clocks speed reported was 800Mhz.

As for my personal view, OC might help in certain situations and possibly extend the life further?
Example:
Process A - took 10 seconds to complete with 100% usage on 600Mhz
Process A - took 5 seconds to complete with 100% usage on 800Mhz

It actually gives less strain on the processor? I'm not sure, someone have done a detail comparison with battery graph. Seems when watching a movie; OC gives similar/slightly better battery consumption.
But I think the stress on the processor is a different story, let's say watching a 30 minute video, it'll put strain on the processor for operating at max clock speed for long periods.

QUOTE(willgan @ Apr 7 2010, 03:39 PM)
yup... its their first phone to test the meego platform.... while they're are still polishing the maemo 5...
everyone talking about whether meego will run in n900.. i think the meego platform should be able to run in n900.. whether the n900 can enjoy all the features in meego platform is a different story..
*
Don't worry, even if Nokia don't officially support MeeGo for N900, there's always community support. The beauty of Open Source... see what have they done to the N900 in such SHORT SHORT time... meh... dual boot Android which doesn't even belong to Nokia. Recently, they have Android 2.1 for testing, crap, that's fast. Some Android device doesn't even get to update. tongue.gif

Anyway, to end users, I don't think MeeGo or Maemo is really important. End Users care more about the OS features, functionality, stability, etc. As long as Nokia polish and improve Maemo up to standard, I'm very happy with it already. MeeGo will be a plus, nice to have. Possibly it can support MeeGo, but also possible that due to hardware limitation, some features might not be supported, so probably they might not want to customize one specifically from N900? But who knows? The N900 community is strong. Oh Yeah! thumbup.gif

Finally, with Qt4.6 and above, future apps for MeeGo can also be installed in Maemo as well as Symbian.

actually its not only u having tat problem. Even ori sometimes have that problem. I think is something to do with the IP and DNS problem
*
Yes, there is a file that we can modify so that it is able to get the DNS.
Previously I face some problem where I can get the IP but was not able to surf (probably due to DNS problem).

Then I found that it is a bug and we can manually modify the file. Need to search for the link, it's in maemo-talk forum.

EDIT:
Found it:

Yeah I know.Sometime need to connect 2-3 time to get proper IP.I'm still unable to connect to my university TTLS based WiFi though.Waiting for PR 1.2 to resolve the problem.

But I really enjoy surfing internet with this phone laugh.gif
*
Try below steps:
http://forums.internettablettalk.com/showp...96&postcount=56

Sometimes, it also depends on the DHCP settings or maybe other settings. One of the WiFi I tried to connect, able to obtain IP,but the IP is the Gateway? Wierd, then later found out need to set manual IP and DNS.

While some place, like Old Town White Coffee, the Wireless is not lock, but cannot use. It ask me to press some button at the wireless router or something.

You haven't OC yet?
*
Waiting PR1.2 first, but following the OC thread in maemo-talk frequently, hehe
Heard many sources that PR1.2 is coming by end of this week >.<
Can't wait, have been doing few backup already preparing for PR1.2 updates....... getting impatient.

Hope someone would come up with the app like Android phones, we can easily set the CPU clock speed, and it has CPU Governor to control the clock speed as well as profiles to limit the clock speed under certain conditions. It'll be a controlled and safer OC.

Try change to 2G (GSM mode), your battery will last twice longer!

I don't get what you're trying to do with the folder and X-Terminal? Incomplete message?

Added on April 8, 2010, 6:30 pmGuys, any suggestion for ACCURATE battery's level apps?

everytime i charge my phone. and when it stated tat it is full. i checked with healthcheck and its 94-95% nvr 100%
*
It won't show 100%, usually I get 96%, sometimes 97%.

There's an app called batlevel which is a widget to show battery level. But this one you need to adjust it's refresh rate to conserve battery. It's not so stable for me cause sometimes it never refresh then I notice it has stop responding, have to close it and re-open.

For lower resource version, use Desktop Command Execution Widget. This widget allow you to execute X-Term command. It already come with preset few commands, like Battery Level in % and mah, Internal and External IP, etc.

If you leave you phone to charge until next morning, the full bar battery is not accurate. (e.g. maybe showing 96%)
This full bar will drop very fast to it's accurate % quite fast.
This is because... I believe there is a cut off when you battery is full and you leave it on to charge for long time. So, it will not charge your battery until you battery drops to a certain level (I think below 85%, then it will re-charge).
If you try to charge you battery when you battery level is above 85%, you cannot charge, it will tell you the battery is full.

If you charge your battery till full and unplug, the 96% or 97% is accurate version and it will not drop fast this time.

Surely, they have it on the iPhone.

There's Flash version at PopCap website, but it requires Flash 10 and it's more like a demo version.

Nice and addicting game, hehe.

There's "Brain Party" game ported to Maemo5 recently, this game only runs in portrait mode; Quite fun but seems not really stable, makes my phone freeze twice, but before it freeze, the game will start to lag first. If you notice this, quit the game before it freeze your phone. It still functioning just very slow respond.

Opera for Mobile is Java base, I think it is slower than N900 default browser.

Too tempting already .

Nokia can't show off. I know many people anti-Nokia or don't like Nokia, so you can't show off. Once you say the word Nokia, they don't want to see also.

Show off you need popular phone. Even lousy phone also ca show off, as long as it's popular. icon_rolleyes.gif

It you want to "wow" people, you can check out upcoming Samsung I9000 with Super AMOLED screen; The screen is so clear even in daylight, it can wow people, but then when you tell people it's Samsung, then maybe they will "ooooh.....".

You want full attention, you need the popular ones, like, erm... iPhone.

iphone 3gs can use new os 4.0. with multitasking too. more attrative.

still... n900 so far really best suit me. tot want to htc desire, but end up with n900. no regret...!!
*
It's not multi-tasking, that's "Task Switcher".
It's an old concept, even WinMo and old Nokia Symbian phone have it.
Maybe iPhone version is more refine and stable? No idea.

Their "Task Switcher" has limitation, you cannot close app in Apple's Task Switcher. So if you open 10 app, you have to open each app from the Task Switcher, let the app restore the state and then close it. ONE BY ONE.
Job said user don't need to worry about closing, but actually it's because they don't plan to do it or don't have the button for it.
For Nokia, we have the "c" key to close the app in Task Switcher.

There's no Task Manager for iPhone, Job said it's not required, user will just sort of messed up.
Well, yeah, for "dumb" or "normal" users. But human can learn, but to Apple, they don't see it like this. They prefer to control their user. Just like when you're in a BIG company, you're the IT Administrator, so you set "GUEST" account for your user, turn off many features like Task Manager, and only allow the user to do what you allow them to do.
This is same like how Apple their their Customers. It's not about the Customer worry, it's about Apple no need to worry about it's Customers because they have control their Customers. Just like you don't have to worry about the users, because you have restrict them.

That's when some smart users come up and JB the iPhone, it's something gaining "Administrators" account access on your Windows.

Apple prefer to keeps their OS locked.Don't know why.

I prefer multitasking concept of Maemo more.
*
Maemo is true multi-tasking, and it's better than Windows XP, lol, because we can see all the apps are running.
If there is game running, video running, we can see it actually running.

Maemo is just like buying a computer, you get administrator access right out of the box. No hacking/jailbreaking needed.
And you can format your phone and reinstall as you like, just like a computer. You're can download the flasher tool to flash your whole firmware, you're free to adjust the kernels, customize your Maemo OS, etc. just like a computer.

In short, N900 is just like a Laptop shrink down to the size of the handphone, running Maemo instead of Windows.
But "normal" user cannot understand it, but then, not everyone need it. Some people prefer to be controlled, and follow the trend.

Just enjoy whatever you like icon_rolleyes.gif

Hehe, to iPhone users, that's a big "WOW" because of their phone lacks so many stuffs, especially the "Task Switcher". Even if it's a very old concept that you can find in old Symbian device, to them, it's a "WOW", already. But as a Symbian/WinMo user, that's like.... Uh?
For Maemo user... LoL, no need to say more.

Anyway, it really mean a lot to iPhone users. It's a good thing for them. **
