I'm a user of P42X28K and I dunno much about LG 42PQ30R in terms of Picture Quality (PQ) when comparing side by side. I believe both are about the same
in terms of specifications. No distinct specification difference. However, judging from appearance, one may prefer the former over the latter or vice versa, and this could be from the overall design that may capture one's attention.

If you want to really know the outcome, then compare both side by side with source from Bluray and Astro, then you'll probably find the answer you are looking for. You may also want to research abit on after sales service to help you to nail your decision.

As for the former model, P42X28K, the base stand now is swivel type where it can be angle about 15 degree on either side. This is not available on previous X series. Sound quality is mediocre, nothing to shout about. Normal volume setting is around 30 -32 with viewing distance approx 9 feet. And 80% of the viewing time is on Astro
Byond, then remaining time is a mixture of DVD and PS3. However, there is a difference in PQ for Astro Byond box and the normal box and I believe it could be the HDMI vs the RCA.

Yesterday i was looking at both P42X28K beside 42PQ30R, LG has got a brighter colors, not tooo sure about moving pictures coz the display contents was from LG and it seems to be focusing on showing off its vivid colors. However when i check at the back of both panels, realised that LG has got additional 4 more AV inputs (16) compared to Panny (12)... also LG has got a more appealing universal USB port compared to the SD card on Panny...

Personally i prefer the brand of Panny over LG for trust and reputation established over the years... not sure whether are they stil that good? or LG has now catch up, or even overtaken Panny?

so what say u?
LG or pana plasma??
hehe

i have placed my order for Panny's TH-P42X28K, delivery date is 24th April... the salesperson said i can still changed my mind to LG before the delivery if i want to...

I like Panny:
- price about RM200 cheaper than LG
- brand name and reputation?
- supposingly better after sales service

I like LG:
- vivid colors compared to panny
- USB compared to SD card on panny
- additional AV input compared to panny

so wat do u think...? haha... crossroad 99...

Better get the new ones if can afford... too risky to get the display unit bro... read some thread about how the sales person "treated" the display unit in MV HN (infront of the customer somemore... wonder wat else they do behind the customer)...

guys... i'm glad that both of u are providing your opions, views and feedback about "Panasonic 2010 Plasma TV models"... but this is going way overboard now... me (and most of others i believe) are only interested about the discussion about Plasma TV, especially from Panasonic here, so if both of u got any "other discussion", pls carry on somewhere else... seriously... you have ur rights to speak and say... but i juz wanna read and know more about TV here...

Peace! Cheers and good nite... happy.gif

got my 42" panny yesterday! din expect it to look so big in my living room! hehe smile.gif very happy about it. can't test much about it yet coz i dun have astro installed yet, no blueray player and no gaming console like xbox or ps3... so far juz connect it to my laptop, so far so good and it looks great smile.gif

however one thing that i find a little disappointed to be honest is the warranty part... on the fifth page of the manual... it writes "Do not display a still picture for a long time"... "This causes the image to remain on the plasma screen ("image retention"). "This is NOT considered a malfunction and is NOT covered by the warranty".... this is so disappointing to me... i mean so many have claimed that plasma technology have improved over the years and have resolve the IR/burn-in issue, if so how come panny is reluctant or afraid to provide such warranty?

appart from the warranty disappointment i am very happy and satisfied with the tv that i bought biggrin.gif

Added on April 25, 2010, 7:15 pmby the way, anyone can share wat is the best configuration/settings for P42X28K? Brightness, contrast, Sharpness, color etc...? thanks

I am glad to hear you are very happy with your TV.  Hope you will enjoy it to the fullest.

I am using the P42S10K bought in Dec 2009.  What I did was to set the brightness & contrast settings to 50 with eco mode off & watch whatever with these settings for the first 200 hours.

Exceeded 1000 hours already.  So far no IR/Burn-In problem whatsoever. And also no deterioration in black level whatsoever.  Black is as black as it can be.  After watching for the day, will "wash" the screen for 30 mins (timer set) & to auto shut off.

Thanks

# Hold down the {VOL -} button ON THE PLASMA TV itself. Not Remote
# Press the {RECALL} button on the remote control 5 times.
# The Service Menu will be displayed.

# Use the {2} buttons to select "SRV-TOOL"
and press the {OK} button to access it.

# HIGHLIGHT the box on the right side of the last option: (Navigate by using the arrow buttons on the remote)

PTCT :00.00.00.00.00 HIGHLIGHT HERE

# Then press and hold the {MUTE} button on the remote for 3 seconds.

TIME = Hours and Minutes of Operation.
COUNT = Times the Plasma was Powered On.

# To exit, press & hold the {POWER} button on the TV for few seconds.

The above for going into the service menu & checking the hour usage.  Please be very careful when you go into the service menu.
What I do for "washing" is to press the TV button on the remote.  Since I am using Astro, the outside TV aerial is not connected.  So if you press the TV button on the remote, there will be no input signal to the TV.  The screen will show a snowy picture.  Set the Timer (max 90mins).

Thanks
