performance wise, they are both abt the same...
Inspiron has better design, while Vostro has better warranty service and support... |

Battery life roughly the same, max at 3 hours...
Videos wise, A42Jk has glossy screen, it should have more vibrant colour, but more reflection while Vostro 3400 has anti-glare screen, less reflection... |

Yup, for more pleasure in viewing movies, a glossy screen would be nice because of the colours
..while anti-glare screen would do nice when watching in a kinda bright environments  ....for me, glossy would do  ...And battery life is roughly the same |

Dunno much about the keyboard for Vostro because never tested one before, cannot help you with that one...Asus A42Jk keyboard is nice, easy to type with ..about the sound, all laptop that comes with the normal speaker would be roughly the same |
