juz to help TS a bit, my own humble personal recommendation, breakdown by types:
QUOTE Multimedia: 1) Acer Aspire TimelineX 4820TG, 2) Lenovo Ideapad Y460, 3) Asus N82Jv - Best GPU u can find for a 14", so it's down to personal preference of brands and warranty. 4820TG has the overall best performance:price ratio in the group. Y460 may give better assurance to some since it's not an Acer (i know i know, some ppl are still Acer-phobic). N82Jv, though expensive, has 2yrs of int'l warranty, and the quality assurance of Asus (personally own N81Vp, really love the laptop) CULV: 1) Acer Aspire Timeline 4810TZ, 2) Asus UL80Vt, 3) Dell Inspiron 14z - why not UL80Vt??? to me, a CULV with integrated graphic is more than enuf, since the most demanding it needs to do is probably HD movies only. Intel GMA is sufficient for such jobs. but why UL80Vt second? due to performance:price ratio... sure Inspiron 14z is cheaper, but 4810TZ offers the same spec as well... Value: 1) Asus K40Ie, 2) Lenovo Valueline G455, 3) Compaq CQ41-208AU - K40Ie earns it's place for the GPU used and Asus' warranty service, though the price tag crossed the rm2k psychological line. G455 is pretty obvious. Throw in Win7 HP and it still maintains at rm2k, while still having a discrete GPU for ur daily tasks and flash games. CQ41 uses the latest offering from AMD, and Intel has nothing new that comes close in this price range. As a side note, when comes to GPGPU, AMD and NV are still ahead of Intel. u may notice that i ve left out the general usage type... well, throw a stone at any laptop that's within ur budget and they can all do the general computing stuff... i am more focused on the niche areas... |

i think classify by GPU would be too overwhelming to most ppl...
if they are really concerned abt GPU performance, i believe they would visit the GPU thread... |

QUOTE(malakus @ Apr 9 2010, 10:17 AM) haha nothing... just sightseeing with different brands... didn't really know they were outdated.. figures.. i doubt u can get much from a faulty laptop...I'm looking for y460... budget could be rm3.2k<... but if my faulty laptop could be sell at a decent cash... maybe i'll go over 4k... but it so damn hard to window shop laptop in Perlis... even working ones also drop in value like crazy after only a few mths... |

QUOTE(miahahaha @ Apr 13 2010, 07:16 AM) Well, Alienware M11x is for gaming mobility, meaning that with a 11.6" laptop which is portable/mobile, gaming is not a problem...but the throw-back for M11x is the CPU it uses...there's no XPS 14...only got Studio 14, Studio 15 & SXPS 16 u forgot SXPS13... Well, Dell already got Alienware/SXPS as their gaming series so no point for Studio & Inspiron to be the same Added on April 13, 2010, 9:21 am QUOTE(DoubleU @ Apr 13 2010, 08:27 AM) well, there's Acer 3820TG...in SG it comes in the form of i7-620M + HD5650... abt SG$1.7k... QUOTE(ROM_star @ Apr 14 2010, 10:59 AM) Just wonder if the laptop has the resolution 1366 x 768 plug with a external monitor with resolution 1920 x 1080, will i get a full screen display? Anyone using laptop with external keyboard to avoid the heat? the resolution is not plug dependent but rather, it's GPU dependent...even integrated graphic can have resolution up to 2048x1536... Full HD is sup sup water (but of course, whether u can have smooth display is another problem) i do use external keyboard, not becuz of the heat, but to prolong the lifespan of the laptop keyboard though... |
