uniqlo quality definitely better than topman...though they are not really considered fast fashion like zara n topman lah...they are more day to day wear....
*
yeah, you're 100% right. imo, uniqlo more focused on the quality and the cost but they do not fully ignore the fashion factor.

As far as I know, the news that H&M will be opening their flagship store in Malaysia soon is just a baseless rumour.

I have been looking at Hennes & Mauritz's annual reports and so far there have yet to be any mentions about expansion to this part of the world. H&M opened their first stores this year in countries such as Turkey (June), Israel (March) and South Korea (February) and these were reflected in their previous AGM (Annual General Meeting) report.

During the recent AGM which was held in April this year, the Chief Executive Officer reported that Hennes & Mauritz expresses their interest in Asia but they will only be focusing on expanding their other labels - COS, Monki and Weekday by opening new stores in Hong Kong.

For their main label, H&M : In HENNES & MAURITZ AB's six-month report released recently (June), they listed Croatia and Romania as the new countries for expansion in spring 2011 and Morocco as the new franchise market in autumn 2011.

H&M is typical European stuff: huge and baggy. I have many of their dress shirts.

Would much prefer Uniqlo to open first.

I believe H&M's Discussion Board on Facebook (with its various Bring H&M to *insert_country_name*! threads) to be one of the sources of this rumour.

Based on the rate which H&M is expanding, there could be a chance of having a H&M flagship store in our country in the future but as for how soon it is, nobody knows yet since Hennes & Mauritz have not announced anything officially. Expect surprises, I guess.

It would probably be a franchise given the fact that some major international retailers are exiting our markets . The rumor in Singapore is they will open at a Mall which is currently under construction near Somerset 313. The initial rumor was for them to open at Orchard Ion, which in my mind is highly improbably given the mall's market positioning. The subsequent rumor was for them to open at 313 Somerset only to be beaten to the spot by Uniglo.

I've also heard that the owners of The Heeren were negotiating with them to be located there as the Heeren lost a major anchor tenant after HMV relocated to 313.

Ah well it seems that our market is not sufficiently attractive for them!!

Since both labels are under DNP Clothing in Malaysia, I am expecting the prices of local Uniqlo's products to be priced accordingly to be closer to Topman's pricing.

Shouldn't be local uniqlo are still 55% under F.R pricing should be close to sg/hk/china

With Topman and Uniqlo already offering / going to offer some competition in the budget apparel sector in Malaysia, I wonder if our sector of the market will be lucrative enough for H&M to try and wedge themselves in. If retailers in this region plan on negotiating with Hennes & Mauritz on franchising, I think chances are Wing Tai Asia and its subsidiary company DNP Clothing (M) will probably be at the front of the queue to gain all three popular budget labels under their umbrella.

Probably closer to Singapore's pricing but we will have to wait and see what step would DNP Clothing take.

At the end of last month, The Wall Street Journal had already posted a news article confirming Fast Retailing and DNP Clothing's joint venture in setting up Uniqlo in our country.

Moreover, Uniqlo's website has already prepared a section for Malaysia. http://www.uniqlo.com/my/

I hope they bring in the J+ range designed by Jil Sanders too. Bought one of the t-shirts during the recent great Singapore sale & they were a real joy to wear.

Don't think H & M will have the same quality standards as Uniglo

Not sure about H&M quality since I never encounter any of their apparel..but for sure Uniqlo is superior in term of quality.
