Hallo Every Lowyat Forumer~~!!! smile.gif

This is the 1ST Thread about Regular Wireless Mouse.
Why i am open this Thread? It is because it seem no many had talk a lot of wireless mouse, but in our real world had many people start used wireless mouse (maybe is modern trend). cool2.gif

In the same time, today's wireless mouse price seem much affortable than last few years, and many people prefer laptop/notebook & netbook, and the demand of the wireless mouse had increase.

But still have many people confuse which brand to choose (in term of price, performance, stability)?
That's why i create a poll with many brand to let you all choose, which brand is most people prefer it.

For your reference, below are the links to each brand (A-Z):
- Apple -
- A4Tech -
- AVF Rapoo -
- CLiPtec -
- Dicota -
- E-VIEW -
- Fujitsu -
- G-Shark -
- Genius -
- Gigabyte -
- Logitech -
- Microsoft -
- Power Logic -
- Sensonic -
- Targus -

Currently most of the Wireless Mouse using this two Technology: 2.4Ghz Radio Frequency & Bluetooth

Benefit of these two Wireless Technology:
- Able to connect the wireless devices much further, e.g.: maximum distance 9 meter.
- Lower drop out connection rate or low chance of lagging.
- Much easier to get in the market.

Difference between 2.4GHz & Bluetooth:
2.4Ghz
- Have USB receiver to connect the wireless devices (Mouse, Keyboard, etc). If lost it, just buy new set sweat.gif
- Need an USB port to plug the receiver.
- Plug & Play, easy to connect.
- Limited wireless devices can be connect in the same time (1 keyboard & 1 mouse @ 1 keyboard & 2 mice).
- Can be perform much further distance (e.g.: upto 15~20 Meters)
- Much stable technology and can be match the wired mouse performance (e.g.: polling/report rate, DPI)
- Almost no drop out connection & delay.

Bluetooth
- No receiver need. (If you Laptop or Computer have built-in Bluetooth Connection)
- Quite complicate for 1st time connection between PC & wireless devices. But once connected, is link togother forever.
- Able to connect up to 7 bluetooth devices.
- because of transfer signal is much busier compare to 2.4Ghz wireless, it will cause some delay quite often.
- also because of transfer signal, it drain more battery power compare to 2.4Ghz.
- Need pay $$$ to bluetooth organization, thus much pricer.

Here is link to help to choose better Bluetooth Wireless Mouse: -> Bluetooth Organization Certified Input Devices

Mouse Sensor Engine

From old days, usually was use ball mouse, once came out an optical sensor that change the way the mouse move. Until now, still many Mice using optical sensor engine even in wireless.

In the today's market, there have few manufacturer came out much advance and better Sensor Engine that out perform than Optical Sensor.
Below are few of it:

- Dual Lens Optical Sensor
-> It has 2 Lenses instead of 1 optical lens inside the mouse. What is the benefit? It can work more surfaces (especially in shining surfaces) than normal optical mouse and run more smooth. One drawback is double the power consumption than normal optical mouse, thus haven't see this technology implement on wireless mouse.

- BlueLight
-> Can be found on AVF Rapoo Mice. From the sources I found (http://www.rapoo.com/ - only in chinese version) , it claimed that more precise / accurate, smooth on tracking and draw less power than optical mouse.

- Laser
-> Quite common technology that used by several manufacturer. Usually not light on the bottom of the mouse, and the smoothness and speed is quite outstanding than optical. But certain laser sensor is consume / draw more power than ordinary optical sensor. Plus, the cost of the sensor is much expensive than optical sensor. This is why most of the Laser mice is much more expensive than others.

- BlueTrack
-> Found on Microsoft Mice. It is combination of Optical & Laser Technology, and the sensor able to work on most surfaces virtually (include carpet, metal, smooth woods), except on glass surfaces.
For more details: Microsoft BlueTrack

- Darkfield Laser Tracking™
-> New Technology created from Logitech, is really powerful Laser Sensor that able to work on many surface virtually - even on glass (*with certain condition - 4mm minimum thickness surfaces of transparent glass, but not on clean glass) .
For more details, can be found at Logitech Website.

- GlassRun
-> A New Technology created from A4Tech, it is a new Design Optical Sensor that much better than Laser (in term on percision & performance), even can work on slightly dusty glass surfaces, and 30% less power consumption than normal optical sensor mice.
For more details, can be found at A4Tech Website.

Change the thread to a general Wireless Mice Thread. Wireless mice aren't that hot a topic here that we need to separate them. If you're not going to it, we'll just get a mod to do it.

Logitech v470 user here. Ok mouse, but I prefer if it was built more durably. It's pretty flimsy compared to the other mice I have.

Find your receipt, find out where u buy 1st, then ask them where to claim warranty (if they help u to sent it, that will be really good).
Once you find out what is the distributor for the product, then you will know where to go. cool2.gif

i'm an output addict. to clear up some fuss and fanboyism

Bluefield is a sensor standard. it tracks well on most surfaces, so long as there is no bumps and stuffs. There is at all, no need for mats as long as not all of your house items are made from glass

Darkfield is the latest sensor standard on the consumer market. i generally tracks on any surfaces even on glass(must be 4mm thick, but i managed to track on light reflecting surfaces 2mm thick with only minor jittering with my friend's anywhere mouse)

why razer IS NOT a general wireless mouse

i) laser sensors are supposed to be PRECISE. razer mice DOES NOT track precisely without surface(confirmed with my friend's lachesis, lots of jitter above 3k DPI, dunno if it is fixed). orochi also does not track properly wirelessly according to some source and this is even agreed on your razer thread

ii) they have no low end wireless product. wirelessly speaking, RM150~ is considered a good low end solution

iii) logitech>razer in the general market. if you disagree, this proves that you are a fanboy. go check your razer thread on just how much RMA issues there are as well as faulty products. my friend had his 1 years old g5 damaged, sent to RMA, and got a brand new g500 instead.

iv) logitech has advantages with the unifying receiver. you can have all your output hardwares wirelessly connected with just 1 receiver. and i dont consider mamba's big wireless receiver a potent competitor.

my answer is more logitech oriented since i know more about logitech's solution. but currently i agree that logitech's darkfield costs too much. a standard microsoft bluefield is good enough IMO, unless you want gaming grade. g7 is a good wireless gaming mouse but i've heard battery issues.

I don't know why you're getting so emo.

Regarding darkfield, bluetrack and whatever kind of superior tracking technology, it's all just a gimmick to me. Of course, in the lab it will probably be able to track the mouse on whatever king of extreme conditions thrown at it. However I doubt anyone would ever come across any such condition in real life.

I've been using my Logitech MX518 for almost two years now. It's for my laptop, which I travel all around with. To date, I've yet to come across any surface on which the mouse won't work, even glass tables. So infra-red optical mice do perform well.

I also have a RM15 optical mouse that won't work on any surface.

What I can conclude is the optical tech hardly has any real world difference if the manufacturer designs it properly.

I also don't see how my Logitech laser mouse is any more precise compared to my infra-red mouse.

When I voted for this poll, I thought it would be inclusive of wireless gaming mice and so I selected for Microsoft Sidewinder X8.

For regular wireless mice, I own Microsoft IntelliExplorer 2.0 and Apple Mighty Mouse. The Apple Mighty Mouse is slightly superior in tracking compared to the Microsoft's, probably because of its laser tracking. It works even in transparent glass.

the sidewinder is 50% cheaper and is bluefield. if it wasnt for the shape and for the large puck-like receiver, it would have been an all rounder like the intellimouse

My complain on laser is they have trouble working on certain surface or cheap mats. i have no problem with optical but after shifting the upgrade to laser tech, makes me wanna switch back to conventional optical mouse. I have to admit for laser, you can work more than 2k cpi or dpi with precision. but in reality, we don't utilize much of this feature unless you have a super duper high resolution screen which requires minimal motion.

Btw do you guys turn off your mouse everytime you shutdown your desktop/laptop? My previous mouse (microsoft), the mouse has a slot underneath the mouse for the receiver, and when i slot in my receiver, it will turn off.

Now i just bought a bluetooth mouse (Logitech V470), and there's the on/off button at the bottom? Everyday on and off, a bit ... weird. Can i just leave it like that?

i'm using sidewinder x8, it has on/off button also, the first few times when i use it i on/off, after that quite lazy already, just leave it on even when i shutdown my pc, coz the mouse will either go into standby or turn off itself anyway. don't really see a big difference in battery life.

the best is go shop try it, hold the mouse and feel it in ur hand, that is the best way to know which is good for u

but if you can stand it then no problem tongue.gif and the mouse feels lighter too..

dunno about that, seems to me like there's no difference. didn't try it with gaming though, with the batt removed. there was once i was playing assassin's creed II with the x8 low on batt, still ok.

different ppl have different hand and different way hold the mouse, in my case i have 6 years old MX1000 and 2 month old MX revolution, but i prefer MX1000, review from web most of them prefer MX revolution.

the best is go shop try it, hold the mouse and feel it in ur hand, that is the best way to know which is good for u

opps, nice mice u hv there but those are too high-end 4 me; ...and i couldn't afford them blush.gif

lol, sorry, i humiliated myself. seems like i fail to read that sentence. doh.gif LOL
ahahahaha, i can't stop myself from laughing.

Ahh, i see. at first i thought you're saying charging doesn't work when the switch is off, which i thought the on and off switch was actually stopping power reaching both battery and system itself. anyway, thanks for the info.

Avf Rapoo (actually Rapoo brand origin from China, AVF just take their products and "chop" own name) just get serious about it since end of last years and some advertisement can be found at local computer magazine.

You can find some info about AVF Rapoo Wireless Gaming Mouse v8 at Gaming Thread or old version. smile.gif
Otherwise google search about the review at taiwan & china website.

Speaking of which, i had this EX100 mouse.

It's been a year & i never had any problem. Then 1 day, when the batteries died, i do the usual stuff & replace with new batteries. To my surprise, it died within 3 days O_O.

It was pretty weird since during the last 1 year, i only need to replace batteries at least after 3 months before it died out.

I replace it again & same result happen, died after 3 or 4 days. Try again with Energizer(i used Eveready Super Heavy Duty before) this time & poof, died after 6 days.

What the cause of this?

Use Panasonic Alkaline before? I'm using it now with my Logitech M305, very long lasting, at least 3+ months before the software chasing me to change 1 LOL.
Super Heavy Duty battery still not good enough for wireless mice cause they need the *oohm* to have a steady power. Best used with alkaline or better batteries.
I do used it with Super Heavy Duty type before, it doesn't last long, 1+ month before the software alarmed me to change 1. And the respond from sleep mode is way slow, not enough *oohm*.

If you do experience fast battery dry out after using Panasonic Alkaline, then check for warranty validity and quickly allow the technician to check for you, it might be some part of the circuit board that's having issue.

Try to use rechargeable batteries (at least 1600mAh & above), can save your money on buy the alkaline batteries in long term.

Nowadays most wireless mouse can perform 10 meters and above (but depend on the quality of the wireless chip between the mouse & the receiver).

Recommended find the brand which had long history in input devices & expert on it (Microsoft or Logitech), or have it own manufacturer for better Quality Control (like A4Tech or Genius).
Of course it will cost a little bit more, but will lower the percentage of device failure.

Usually Bluetooth will cost much more than wireless mouse @ 2.4Ghz, because Bluetooth Organization want $$$ before license their technology to the manufacturer.

The battery you guys use for the mouse...
Any with built in internal battery in the mouse so you don't have to buy batteries?

I wanna get one soon but afraid constant battery changing will be costly...

dont worry much about the battery problem, just buy a set of good quality rechargeable batteries (such eneloop).
plus, many manufacturer have low battery indicator (either in hardware or software), will warn you before run out of battery.

There have high end wireless gaming mouse from Razer using Li-ion rechargeable battery, but will cost u a lot. smile.gif

I use my wireless mouse everyday, above 10 hours a day and I havent changed it for over 5 months now. A 8 pack battery is ~RM 16 right?
So....its not much really considering the life it has. As the others have mentioned, getting rechargeable ones will be good :>
Reminds me of my GameBoy days...

Yap, agree to Keenxlimit answer.
is depend on how you use it in daily (8 hours per day? use it in long distance? for gaming usage).
Getting rechargeable battery will save your money in long term.

Plus, get a good quality (long usage battery life performance) wireless mouse will reduce the chances to change the battery/batteries frequently. smile.gif

i think i buy 1 of this mouse 2 years ago, that time it was promotion price like RM50.
i straight away take it and go pay without any doubt.
this mouse can use with dongle or bluetooth and it comes with charge cable.
bad thing is the Energizer battery they provided in the package had acid leak in it.
