if using canal headphone also cannot hear sound from surroundings, so is that noice cancelling too

No... some are specially made for noise cancelling, not the normal ones. For example Shure e2c, Senn cx300 and sony ex71s are nice noise cancelling canals.

i want to ask,
how to differentiate whether an earphone is good or not by looking at the output or voltage or watt or something stated at the package without testing it?

There's one edifier speaker tool that would make the burn in fast. I think so... But my friend experienced the program makes the burn in with his edifier speaker spoiled, has some noise after that, thus I suggest you play music 24hrs/7days with slightly louder than your listening volume.

i think that's due to manufacturer defect, more than the program spoil the speaker.
perhaps the amp design is not good / defect in that unit, and they on it for relatively long time for burn in, and viola, the chip really burned out then.

Is it same with impedance? Related with whether the phone is hard or easy to drive.

So is it,

Low nominal impedance = easy to drive
High nominal impedance = hard to drive

or the other way round ? hmm.gif

That's what I understand too. I would like to add more; low impedance phone will do well in unamped but when you need to amp it, finding the suitable one will be quite choosy.

If I would to get a high impedance (hundreds ohms) haedphones, I need a better source of output (music player), am I right? I can't just get those and plug it straight to my iPod and listen, can I?

Yes, high impedence phones tend to sound weak without amps

Noise cancelling and noise isolating are different things just so you know.

Noise cancelling headphones are headphones that produces a "antinoise" soundwave in response to outside noise. One famous pair of headphones that ultilises this noise cancelling technology is the Bose Quiet Comfort 2 (Bose QC2).

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Noise-cancelling_headphone

Noise isolating are what we are familiar with, with the likes of Shure ES530 and Etymotic ER-4
