QUOTE
I will probably write a separate review for this product, but it's pretty pointless, since there are so many professional reviews out there. Suffice to say that I have never heard music in such a state before. I have heard music that almost seem physical, like you can reach out and touch it, but this is actually the first time I have heard music with emotions, music that will stop you dead in your tracks, make you drop whatever you are doing, and draws you into the emotion of the song itself. It wasn't just like the singer is standing there in front of you, but it was like the singer's presence, his spirit is there with you, and you can hear every single change in his/her tone of voice, what he/she feels when each and every single word is sung. This card is not just a beauty, it is heavenly.

this is about Xonar + Audio Technica isn't it?

QUOTE
HOWEVER. A virtual surround is STILL a virtual surround. When compared to the Roccat Kave on a Creative X-Fi sound card, I have to say the Kave and X-Fi combo has a more accurate surround effect (of course). Thanks to the multiple speakers inside the Kave and the triple stereo outputs of the X-Fi, surround effects has more accuracy. But you know what? After installing the Xonar, the X-Fi actually sounds better! Probably because the new hardware installation 're-booted' all sound settings to default, and this time, with the proper tweaking, the Kave sounded even better than before. The highs are not ear-piercing, and the lows are boomy. Best of all, the Kave is shaking my face even in games now! I mentioned before, while playing L4D2, the Kave does not vibrate. This time, not only it does, it does so incredibly! Every explosion, every melee hit to the head, every Boomer exploding, man it was awesome! For those of you who are using X-Fi and unsure of the settings to put, I have included them in the screenshot below.

is this soundcard good for gaming to?? sound blaster x-fi surround 5.1.

thanks! laugh.gif

Yes and yes.

The X-Fi External is your only option for surround sound gaming on notebooks. At that price? BUY IT!!!!
*
oh maii~ wub.gif

gonna buy that tomorrow! brows.gif

anyway, for that external soundcard that mainly for gaming purpose, it surely will improve the quality of sound produced for listening to songs compared to default built-in sound chipset in mobo right? because its a waste if the improvement is limited to certain usage only..

You might want to take a look at the playback devices, which one is selected.

You will need boost your bass level via software, it's included in my X-fi software. Not very sure about other sound card though. The reason you dont feel any vibration is because the default bass is not high enough to trigger the vibration. Set your Kave bass equalizer to max, Rear,Center,Front at about 1/4 to 1/2 level, and crank your master volume knob as high as possible. If there's still no vibration, chances is that you need to boost your bass via software means (i.e:equalizer)

done.

@ mr doctor. Ive noticed using different media players help. Foobar didnt make is vibrate, but Media player classic did

*

Wait, this may be a stupid question, but have you tried turning up the Bass knob on your Creative Launcher, AND on your Kave remote?
*
yep. tried. i turn the knob till my ear nearly burst. but in the high volume, i can hear something shaking... maybe the same problem as TS mentioned before. guess my item is really problematic..

luck. i have none.

Don't quote me on this, but I believe the unit is not broken.

As long as you can feel some shaking, it means it is working.

I used to have that same problem. I believe it is a setting problem. Keep looking for anything with Bass setting.

If you guys notice his screenshot, his Creative Launcher does NOT have the Bass and Treble knob. Tried changing the bass setting in your Control Panel?

I am determined to help you get it shaking, cause it's really fun when you are playing a game and it starts shaking.
*
thanks for the determination bro.

actually for the past 2 days, after some tweaking, i do feel the vibration (finally, thanks God! notworthy.gif ). but under normal volume ~40%, the vibration is pretty weak. sweet!

@30%, the vibration is almost can't be felt. after trying some .mp3 with high bass, yes, the vibration is felt perfectly! laugh.gif

this setting and vibration only can be felt when i use together with X-Fi USB 5.1 Surround external soundcard. if using default soundcard in my lappy - none, even @ 100%.

EDIT : in the nutshell - i don't think my Kave is faulty unit. its just my default soundcard with is too crappy. doh.gif sweat.gif

p/s : thanks for your recomendation to go for X-Fi USB 5.1 Surrounding. its worth every penny of it thumbup.gif

on default soundcard lappy it produce a bit of vibration..ive already tested it..i just plug the orange and green jack plug..but the vibration didnt satisfy our needs..hahaha..n of course external sound card should do the powerful vibration... biggrin.gif
*
yup. its seems default soundcard between laptop and desktop is not the same afterall.

TS did all his review just using default soundcard on his mobo, but no problem regarding vibration or whatsoever.

oh maiii~ wub.gif

finally i found an ultimate way to maximize the vibration!

just lower everything on your EQ below 50% and let Sub @ 100%. by that, its mean the overall volume will be reduce by half without affecting your Bass and Subwoofer. rclxms.gif

if before this you only use till 20% (based on Windows Volume Level), but now you can use at 40% for 20% but the bass is still at 40% biggrin.gif

Errr... isn't the reason why you want a gaming sound card is to process the sound produce? The EQ for Creative Launcher is one of the things that you must configure, otherwise, you will not be able to bring out the best of the sound.

Gaming sound and movie sound requires processing. They are digital.

On the other hand, if you are talking about music, then you DO NOT want to process the sound. If that is the case, Creative sound cards not NOT the ones you should be choosing.

Asus Xonar Essence!!!

Asus should give me money for promoting their products so much!  nod.gif
*
no no. my last post is referring to songs, not games and movie.

for sure i turn on everything when gaming and movie biggrin.gif

anyway, how much is Asus Xonar Essence? you coupled it with Kave too? guess i will have two external soundcard later... Asus Xonar Essence is not external, isn't it?

PC beep off = yep the sound is still there. momentary im using some stereo Phillips headphones SHM6103 model , excellent model smile.gif . @bryan No backgound noise from speakes on full volume . In my opinion and 2 months of online search is that these model of headphones use this USB cable to powerup the headset, and they are not EMI protected , or they are but the motherboard and PC circuit activities still manage to bypass and through that USB conection , u can hear the intern electric activity of youre PC (keyboard function/mouse/HDD activities), its my only answer to what its happening. Shame, hope they next product dont use and such an fault usb adapter just to power it, when u can use just the JACKS for stereo/5.1/7.1 surround sound.

Still waiting for an response from the Roccat Suport team.

well you still lucky because have option to tweak that PC Beep Setting. mine don't.

so what should i do now? sad.gif
