Thermalright Venomous X

Test Bed:

Processor: Intel C2D E8400 @ Stock Vcore and Clock speeds
Motherboard: Asus X38 Maximus Formula SE (flash modded to Rampage formula)
RAM Module: Team Xtreem DDR2 Special OPB Edition (Micron D9GMH)
Graphic Card: nVidia Geforce 9300GT
Power Supply Unit : Silverstone Decathlon 1200W
Hard Disk: Western Digital 36Gb Raptor
Operating System : Windows XP Professional Service Pack 2
Chasis : Coolermaster Cosmos

Testhing Materials Used :

1. Artic Cooling MX-2
2. Thermalright TR-FDB-12-2000 @ 12V and 7V


Testing Methods Used :

1. Each Heat Sink is tested twice(cool down is 5 minutes between each test), the average results is taken as the result.
2. The same amount and type of Thermal Paste used is kept constant for all Heat Sinks used
3. All Heat Sinks are tested with the same fans
4. Load test were done by running ORTHOS Small FFT test priority 8 for 20 minutes. Ambient temp prior every test was be measured.

**all heatsinks we're located inside the case, side panel on. Case had one rear fan, and one top exhaust.
**ambient temp approx 23-25 degrees.

there has been some argument that recording temperatures with the onboard thermal probe serves inaccurate.
The best judgement would be the delta in temperature

Conclusion :

With the introduction of the Thermalright Venomous X, Thermalright has further widened the gap between itself and it's competitors. It is without a doubt Thermalright is facing steep competition from manufacturers that place emphasis on H.D.T. Technology, or the implementation of TEC. However, engineers at Thermalright has yet again affirmed that conventional design is indeed the best.

I saw little difference between a Single fan and Double fan configuration with the setup I used. But, based on other reviews on the net, the extra fan does make a big difference on a Quad Core Platform, which I an currently unable to test. With reference to the results above, there is an improvement in temperatures, although I many are puzzled why the gap isn't bigger. The answer to that is simple, Thermalright has done nothing but generate high performing products, so whether you are with the older TRUE-120 or the latest Venomous, you are sure to have the best cooling solution available.

To end things, an improvement is still an improvement. The Venomous X does fulfill it's reputation as the King of all coolers.


Pros:
# Improved mounting mechanism
# Similar, but slightly better construction that the TRUE-120
# Significant improvement in temperature with double fan configuration
# Reasonable price tag with performance (good performance to price ratio)

Cons :
# Fan must be purchased separately
# Still find it rather difficult to attach the fan onto the heatsink

Comparison with other cooler? How about if compare to water cooler? Tq.

What's the ambient temperature when you tested these?

This would be more interesting than the C2D.

I wonder how ur gonna stress the cpu for charting the load temp lol. Linx?
