QUOTE(pandera999 @ Aug 19 2011, 07:55 PM) Cannot fit lo.... the U2 is not really mod-friendly since there's not much space because its tilted, and most of the nice fans are thick (as pointed out by lee_what2004 sifu) Even the Artic Cool F12 fans barely fits in... It is suitable for the M14x though since the vents are at the top left and right haha, lucky lucky |

Hi guys, here are the results for the F12 (Artic Cooling) modded version of the Notepal U2
Many thanks to lee_what2004 sifu for showing me how to mod one from scratch and thanks to AlexLai sifu for introducing those impressive F12 fans The base portion of the AW M14x (Photo obtained from notebookcheck.net): » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « The modded U2 [will post methods on constructing one if there's anyone interested]: Before: » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « After: » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « Stress Tests **Ambient temperature is 27C throughout the following tests. AW M14x without cooler, placed on normal office desk Furmark + IntelBurnin test results: Max CPU temp (avg): 98C Max GPU temp: 76C Time completion for IntelBurnin: 425.13s » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « AW M14x with U2 cooler [fans removed] Furmark + IntelBurnin test results: Max CPU temp (avg): 98C Max GPU temp: 74C Time completion for IntelBurnin: 408.19s » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « AW M14x with modded U2 [fan speed maximum, 12v] Furmark + IntelBurnin test results: Max CPU temp (avg): 97.75C Max GPU temp: 73C Time completion for IntelBurnin: 399.78s » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « Verdict: - Temperature results are not really good, probably because of the small vents at the bottom of the M14x. - GPU temperatures are affected more by the cooling as they're located directly "beneath" the vent. The CPU is much "deeper" (at the center) of the laptop, hence harder to cool. - The F12 120mm fans are very, very powerful. In fact they're so powerful that most of the air got deflected and came out from the side of the cooler pad hehe - It was a fun experience haha This post has been edited by [PF] T.J.: Sep 1 2011, 11:48 AM |

I see haha, but the only way to reduce the temps more is to use air-con

QUOTE(joanneway @ Sep 2 2011, 09:06 AM) tan ji.. the temp like no different. hdd temp improve only. u left some space for smaller fan just fully occupied it. i bet the result would be better since u not using usb. No idea what you're talking about The HDD temp difference are not significant here because the tests were carried out at a different time The cooling efficiency is reduced because of the lack of vents at the bottom of the M14x... the modified F12 fans are very, very powerful |

QUOTE(ishwar100 @ Sep 2 2011, 10:09 PM) tj i think if you moved the fans next to each other to the center it will improve the air flow. also down 2 holes. by placing them(2 fans) on both ends only results in the air being blownout wards. by placing them in center allows fast airflow under the intakes of the alienware. just my 2 cent opinion. Thanks for the input bro, appreciate it I can't move the fans down two holes because the F12 fans are too thick, later the cooler pad cannot stand already Still, mind sharing why placing them at the center will improve airflow? I dun really understand, sorry noob here |
