Great news on the take off, you should expect it by end on next week, probably Friday or earliest Thursday if all goes well. I'm past the blister point, I think my finger is about to fall off   

I'm guessing you are worried about the bloatware in the Notebook when it arrives and the performance of your machine. I would advice you to burn the Recovery DVDs before you do anything else. The moment the notebook is past the initial setup, get ready some DVDs and make an image of the Factory Default System with the provided software before uninstalling anything. You never know when you need the notebook to be in "Out Of The Box Condition" & once changes are done you cannot revert back. Check notebookreview forums for more information on making the recovery DVDs and for Win 7 clean install.

I will immediately start uninstalling all the bloatware after my backup and probably leave the system as is until I screw the OS or change my primary HDD

Let's hope the customs tariffs doesn't change for IT products. What I don't understand is if IT products is suppose to be "Tax Free" then why the hell are the distributors fixing such an exorbitant price? Beats the hell out of me 

Anyway, great news for us owners because this means there will be spare parts at the Asus Service Center if we need RMA 

I just did a price comparison with other brands & it all boils down to profits. Why lower the price when your competitor is offering less and around the price range? They should be justifying the prices with that assessment. Check out alienware specifications and price range then compare with the G73JH. If you compare it, the G73JH might cost a little more than the alienware but it's specs blows the alienware away (Standard Pre-Built Systems sold over the counter). This allows them to gain maximum profitability compared to making it more affordable and selling it quantity. There is little price control here and the consumers usually are the one who pays to offset business decisions like this 

Oh well, with a little knowledge and inconvenience (wire transfer, waiting period) we can save 3k++. I can think of a lot of things to do with that amount of money

Can someone tell me what kind of backpack I need to get to be able to fit this thing in? Also, does getting a good quality backpack (with back support, strong straps, etc) help with the weight? I understand it's something like 4kg, so does it really feel like carrying a brick?

Hi guys, i got my unit from www.hidevolution.com, very friendly representative named Ted liaised with me, i got the RBBX05 version with 2GB RAM upgrade, shipping fee is 111.25USD with no tax or any kacau from kastam, delivery take 3-4 working days vis USPS express which is trackable, before you buy i would advice you to confirm with your representative on the LCD screen, Asus uses LCD from 2 manufacturers for G73JH RBBX05 model which came with the 1600x900 resolution, namely AUO and LG, AUO is having inferior verticle viewing angle and slightly less vibrant colors compared to LG, you can ask your representative to verify them before buying, please refer to the link below to know how to identify the LCD manufacturer, as for other models that came with Full HD resolution you have no such worries as it's all manufactured by Hesstar.

As for warranty, RBBX05 model comes with 1 year international warranty only but somehow when i called Asus service center in Malaysia they say it's 2 years for all laptops, well i certainly hope it is the latter.

Another thing to consider before buying is you have to put up with some driver incompatibility between Windows and ATi (in short its called bulls***), the big hoo haa is that the G73JH came with the notorious GSOD (Grey Screen of Death) or in some worst case it comes with PSOD (psychedelic screen of death), regardless of the model you're getting, the GSOD/PSOD issue only happens when you're not using stock display driver (Catalyst 9.12), this issue can mostly be fixed with a vBios update, but it's rather dangerous because if you flashed the wrong ROM your laptop LCD will not display anything (even BIOS).

Please note that i personally don't recommend flashing, there are ways to fix GSOD with non-stock driver but it doesn't work 100%, so before you even think of flashing please try this:

1) Uninstall creative audigy audio utilities
2) Use latest Realtek drivers (I had problem using this driver, when headphone is plugged in the speakers isn't disabled)

Note that they say the laptop could be blind flashed but field reports from notebook review suggest that it's not possible to blind flash your vBIOS because if you are having a faulty vBIOS your G73JH laptop will somehow get stuck during boot time

If all else fails, you might want to consider sticking to Catalyst 9.12 until Asus sends a chopper to the rescue. (an official vBIOS maybe?)

For me i took great risk in flashing, i actually selected a different vBIOS to flash because i want overdrive and HDMI features. The vBIOS i'm using is from the link below.

The stock Atheros card has bad wireless range and limited to 150Mbps wireless transfers rate. I will be carrying this notebook around so might need to use some WiFi spots sometimes. I want to make sure my unit have decent wireless capability. Anyway the upgrade is not too expensive, around RM 70 - 80   

I'm going to get my uncle I mentioned earlier to get it for me to save of shipping, he has friends in US so he can ship there and collect it when he goes for his annual company meeting. He goes there like once or twice a year

I'm suspecting G73Jw will be getting Nvidia Gtx480m installed. Since AVADirect’s W880CU has got it installed and running like a mad portable desktop replacement.

The rumors are the GTX480m will be installed but a lot of NBR forum members says it's still too early to confirm. Asus needs to weigh the possibility of overheating and additional cost for cooling down the laptop due the heat generated by this card. If they need to do major revamps to the chassis, I highly doubt they will go with the GTX480m for the G73JW. It would be more cost effective to launch this card on a higher newer model to attract new potential buyers.

Further information, the unit will be delivered to my home. Pos Malaysia uses Pos Laju to pick up your unit from KLIA customs and deliver it to the nearest Pos Laju branch. I'm not sure which service they will use to dispatch my parcel but from what I gathered it will be either the E-Parcel service or Pos Laju. I will report back once they deliver my unit hopefully by tomorrow 

sigh.. i envy u guys who just received ur laptop.. still waiting for my uncle to bank it the rest of the money,.. this is getting really frustrating, hope gentechpc still have stock when i order..

Yup, my Lord & Master pointed to Ken Lee at Gentech and I did his bidding  I've actually called him several times and once to assist Satchi who hopefully will get his unit today. Overall he is very helpful and I love his service. However there are some conflicting reports in the NBR forums. Some members said he is very knowledgeable and a techie but when I asked him about the issues with this laptop he was very general. I think he started the account in NBR forums and at times a tech from Gentech answers on that account
