Rotary Section

A rotary tool is a hand held power tool with a variety of rotating accessory bits and attachments that can be used for cutting, carving, sanding, polishing and many other applications. Popular brands include Dremel and Foredom.

The smaller rotary tools use high RPMs to maintain the correct cutting conditions for the tool bits. They have low torque which makes them safer, for freehand use, than the larger higher powered models or similar power tools. A wide variety of accessories are available for applications such as cutting, carving, sanding, polishing, and grinding. The carving (or cutting) bits are referred to as burrs and are similar to those used by dentists.

Dremel is a brand of power tools known primarily for their rotary tools. The tools were originally developed by Albert J. Dremel, who founded the Dremel Company in 1932 in Racine, Wisconsin. In 1993, the company was purchased by Robert Bosch GmbH, and today it is a division of the Robert Bosch Tool Corporation located in Mount Prospect, Illinois. Dremel's rotary tools are similar to the pneumatic die grinders used in the metalworking industry by tool or moldmakers.

CCFL Section

A cold cathode is an element used within some nixie tubes, gas discharge lamps, discharge tubes, and vacuum tubes. The term cold cathode refers to the fact that the cathode is not independently heated. In spite of this, the cathode itself may still operate at temperatures as high as if the cathode were heated.
Cold cathode fluorescent lamps (CCFLs) are usually also called cold cathodes. Neon lamps are a very common example of a cold cathode lamp.
Cold cathodes remain popular for LCD backlighting and enthusiast computer case modders.

I already guessed that it should cost about that much from the main ACE hardware website after $ to RM conversion..too expensive for single use cry.gif
And considering I only have a cordless drill with a small chuck..getting a dremel should be better
Any idea how much would a Black & Decker dremel would cost and anyone bought it before at ACE Midvalley?

I checked some of the provided links and never thought that DREMEL MultiPro 395 is about RM 225 and Black & Decker RTX-1 is about RM 310..
Never thought that Black & Decker more expensive.. hmm.gif

Ya..there is a shop at Jalan Pasar selling Bosch hole saws..went there to look the other day
Their sizes are odd..there are no exact ones like 80mm or 120mm..usually less by a few mm
The cost of the smallest size is already > RM50..bi-metal variant >RM100..too expensive for single use even though they make a pretty hole

Anyone around Kuching know which/where hardware shop sells the protective-layer spray? I was at E-Mart Matang just now, I saw a tin of spray thing that says "anti-rust", is it that kind of thing? I actually just want to apply it on plastic surface, not metal.

Btw, I also saw a spray says "Paint removal", are those things actually effective against those factory-paint-coating, like those on desktop casing (glossy paint)?

Ha, that actually 2 questions above- one is about protective coat and one is about paint removal.

My laptop have some of it's part scratched or paint torn, so I need to re-spray them. I just need the protective coat to make them last longer.

The paint removal is a different scenario. I probably need it to remove the default paint on my desktop casing if I want to fix it.

If u want to protect it , u can use clear coat to spray 2 layer . If remove paint , u can use the paint removal or u want to sand it using sandpaper

don't stress the cutting disc too much. cutting using dremel should be done with lots of patience. look for bill owen's guide on using the dremel.

i have broken almost a dozen of those cutting disc for now. never had any injury. just make sure you we protective glasses when working with metal.

Lock ? U mean tight the cutting disc on Dremel ? I think the cutting disc that ur friend using is normal one . I have one suggestion which is better use Fiberglass Reinforced cutting disc because it didn't break so easy and can last longer

http://www.dremel.com/en-us/AttachmentsAnd...il.aspx?pid=426

If u have problem tight the cutting disc , u may try this :

i think better we tight it down properly to prevent any accident. in my knowledge, disc break not because of over tighten, but its the user press the dremel against the cutting object to hard. please be patient when cutting with dremel.

If you guys know people in the manufacturing industry especially casing or housing manufacturers of electronic equipment/appliances, you can design them in AutoCAD and produce a prototype on a 3D printer, a 3D printer being a piece of Industrial Automation (machine) creates components out of plastic complete with moving parts and colour. I know someone who can do this for Sing$40 (RM80) for a prototype.......

But if you guys like DIY hand made modifying and dislike the fact of creating it on a machine (which takes the fun out of making it your ownself) you guys could do away with the fact of making it on a machine........after all I modded my VCR casing by hand using an old biscuit tin, plastic bottle, pen erasers, black spray and black coloured paper!!!!

I'm going to do the same to my PS2 but I am not sure about my Interactive Player.........got the design, don't know whether to do it by hand or machine........

I'm wondering if this mini rotary tool will be enough for light steel cutting? hmm.gif
http://www.mcmelectronics.com/product/22-13785

Or do you have any other recommendation or whoever selling locally/postage. Just going to fix a little bit of things on my pc casing but spending 100++++ just for that few minutes work is kinda overkill...

Hello, mind to ask here, anyone selling / provide service for this design of the fan grill. Its actually a radiator grill, but i want the design to be fan grill instead:

user posted image

the reason is the radiator grill is bigger in dimension compare to fan grill, so its useless. I just need the exact same dimension with the 120mm fan(cut the outer part, so its only left 4 holes for the fan) ..

kindly help me on this, its for my ehmm3 project.. tongue.gif

Normal spray paint works.
But just need to follow some steps to get the best result.

1. Sand the surface
2. Apply primer (prevent rust)
3. Apply thin layerS of paint.

Done.

You can find paint stripper at hardware stores or those places like ace hardware.

After you get the paint off, you should at least put a clear coat on the bare metal unless you like rust.

I also seen people use blade to scrape it off but be careful of the tip of the blade as it can cause deep scratches.

Is the Dremel 395 good and reliable (long lasting)?
And why is there so many different 395 around?
eg. 5000-30000RPM, 5000-35000RPM, 10000-37000RPM?

My friends has one of those, Dremel 395 is great but never had it long enough or use it often enough to know its durability.

but I have heard that it has issues on it's multi speed switch.

in regards to the RPM, depends what you will be using it for. As I understand get the highest RPM so you got the flexibility to choose any of the RPM available & you can also potentially use the highest RPM for cutting something really tough.

Does anyone know where I can find the Dust Filter material?

I tried looking for it in the local hardware shop but they don't have it.

Is there any particular advantage to having a lower starting RPM (eg. 5000 vs 10000)?

Hello, may I know which dremel model is the latest?

And how much will it cost, and does ACE hardware sells it, if not, which shop you recommend? Selangor area.

I'm eyeing on Dremel 3000, or its an outdated version?

Thanks biggrin.gif

big companies that aren't in malaysia already and don't need cheap semi-skilled labour won't be interested to setup their regional hub in meresiah.

Mod the front and top panel. Make covers for the side of 5.25 bays and HDD bays. And of course an internal paint job, if its not too pricey lah. If not just the grills would do.

But these are just ideas though. I'm open to a full overhaul.

Not sure if this is the right place to ask but hope sifus of dust filter and casing can help:

I bought a PC recently and I kind of not expecting the top part to be exposed. Its 'ventilation' but with the malaysian weather (haze now) I cant open my windows except to play under air-conditioned room. Would appreciate if someone can help me or suggest a dust filter for the top area:

heres my current PC:

The smaller rotary tools use high RPMs to maintain the correct cutting conditions for the tool bits. They have low torque which makes them safer, for freehand use, than the larger higher powered models or similar power tools. A wide variety of accessories are available for applications such as cutting, carving, sanding, polishing, and grinding. The carving (or cutting) bits are referred to as burrs and are similar to those used by dentists.

If you're in Klang Valley then go to shops like Art Friend, or some hardware shop that sells large pieces.

Certainly far less than RM 20 per sqft.

Any place in Malaysia that offers case modding service?
Basically I just want to get a bigger window for my side panel, probably remove the fan slots.
I'm using the case below which is a CM storm Scout II.

Haven't visit any hardware shops but wondering if anyone have experience in material costs of 2020 aluminum profile and their accessories

Sigh... bangwall.gif Just have to rant a bit why is it so damn hard to get basic material locally.
Either they are non existence (such as aluminum v slot systems), or super expensive (RM170 for a single bar of aluminum channel, or a single piece of non transparent acrylic).
The most funniest question I ever get from those hardware vendors "what is acrylic?". I literally want to faint... doh.gif

While acquiring tools is surprisingly easy, they are literally everywhere, even in a shopping mall... material is a complete different story.

Solution - China China China China China China China...
There are many custom works available on Taobao beside selling raw materials, custom cut acrylic to size or even aluminum panel machining.
Unless you have good amount of contacts in local industry, but even then acquiring small amount for DIY project can be really hard locally.
I see several custom work services on Lowyat already closed topic... hmmmmmm.

I gave up looking for stuff locally anymore, no point, pointless, complete waste of time. Just order at Taobao for fraction of the price.
If anyone need help ordering material from Taobao perhaps I can ask my friend to help you out.

In needs of 3D design or CAD file drawings? I can help you out on that. thumbsup.gif
I've ordered a bunch of alu v-slots, alu channels, acrylic to work on a custom tower case right now (as pic below).
Hopefully the order went through without issue, I have enough headache already...

Attached Image

The small scale laser cutting service at Jalan Nanas, Kuching hopefully still operating. Haven't been there for ages.
Definitely will need their service.

Interestingly self-adhesive vinyl with various patterns including wood grain can be found at Mr.DIY. Size starting 250cm x 5 meter RM16-ish.
They are meant for house wallpaper use but nah, can use it for anything. Hella more cheaper than buying whole frigging roll from renovation company.
Carbon fiber vinyl for car use can also found at Mr.DIY for hella more cheaper price compared to other places.
Last time bought a roll for over RM70 at garage sales I feel like I got scammed... whistling.gif

It's nearly impossible to find anything here in Kuching.
Look at the bright side. That's the opportunity. We provide such supplies and services.
I know where to get acrylics and I'm looking to get my own laser cutter. PM me if interested to work together on future projects.

Mind give some info about the acrylic?
Weeks back I found an advertising company behind MJC selling 4x6 2mm solid white RM90, but haven't visit them yet though to verify.
Still way cheaper than that Tai... forgot what name supplier company... at the former 20cent building there, which was about RM150.

Her name Amy, she is the distributor/supplier.
Normally, most shop in kuching takes order. Then Amy will send it out from her factory.

I got her contact though the driver.

V-slot extrusions, brackets and stuff from China. Ship through sea due to weight, took > 1 month to arrive...
Quality good, just bad packaging. The courier guys must see it is metal and slam it pretty hard... mad.gif Gotta ask seller to seal them and put FRAGILE sign next time.
Need order some of these for moddings send me a message see if I can arrange something. hmm.gif

These are not for sale, working on my own project. Will take some times to progress, gonna finish prototyping in 3D first.

Cold cathode fluorescent lamps (CCFLs) are usually also called cold cathodes. Neon lamps are a very common example of a cold cathode lamp.
Cold cathodes remain popular for LCD backlighting and enthusiast computer case modders.

There are few mod shops and few independent modders in Malaysia providing such services.
You can PM me for more details.

Hi guys, quick question, not sure if this is the right place to ask.

I have a gaming PC housed inside a Bitfenix Prodigy case. Back then I wanted to get the standard side-panel with the vents, but the shop gave me the windowed one by accident. Didn't bother with exchanging for the right one back then since my temps are pretty good.

But games are getting a little more demanding and I would like to actually get a vented one. Where can I get it? I can only find people selling the windowed sidepanel separately.

Also, I would like to get one of the custom mesh front panels, but it doesn't seem like any of the sellers here in lowyat sell them.

Any thoughts?

this one really hard to get in Malaysia.
Most of us opt for laser cut acrylic and paint it to make it look like steel mesh.

this one really hard to get in Malaysia.
Most of us opt for laser cut acrylic and paint it to make it look like steel mesh.

owh i see, is there any place/website to order the laser cut acrylic?

Hi, I'm looking for a case mod specialist who can mod this case by cutting off the part I have drawn in the picture and replace it with a mesh/grill. Sorry for the bad drawing, though.

The measurement is up to you and I'm open to suggestion. Willing to pay handsomely.

COD within KL or postage if you are outside KL.
