Anyone around Kuching know which/where hardware shop sells the protective-layer spray? I was at E-Mart Matang just now, I saw a tin of spray thing that says "anti-rust", is it that kind of thing? I actually just want to apply it on plastic surface, not metal.
Btw, I also saw a spray says "Paint removal", are those things actually effective against those factory-paint-coating, like those on desktop casing (glossy paint)? This post has been edited by M1X: Jan 20 2011, 04:50 PM |

Ha, that actually 2 questions above- one is about protective coat and one is about paint removal.
My laptop have some of it's part scratched or paint torn, so I need to re-spray them. I just need the protective coat to make them last longer. The paint removal is a different scenario. I probably need it to remove the default paint on my desktop casing if I want to fix it. |

I'm wondering if this mini rotary tool will be enough for light steel cutting?
http://www.mcmelectronics.com/product/22-13785 Or do you have any other recommendation or whoever selling locally/postage. Just going to fix a little bit of things on my pc casing but spending 100++++ just for that few minutes work is kinda overkill... |

Sigh... Either they are non existence (such as aluminum v slot systems), or super expensive (RM170 for a single bar of aluminum channel, or a single piece of non transparent acrylic). The most funniest question I ever get from those hardware vendors "what is acrylic?". I literally want to faint... While acquiring tools is surprisingly easy, they are literally everywhere, even in a shopping mall... material is a complete different story. Solution - China China China China China China China... There are many custom works available on Taobao beside selling raw materials, custom cut acrylic to size or even aluminum panel machining. Unless you have good amount of contacts in local industry, but even then acquiring small amount for DIY project can be really hard locally. I see several custom work services on Lowyat already closed topic... hmmmmmm. I gave up looking for stuff locally anymore, no point, pointless, complete waste of time. Just order at Taobao for fraction of the price. If anyone need help ordering material from Taobao perhaps I can ask my friend to help you out. In needs of 3D design or CAD file drawings? I can help you out on that. I've ordered a bunch of alu v-slots, alu channels, acrylic to work on a custom tower case right now (as pic below). Hopefully the order went through without issue, I have enough headache already... The small scale laser cutting service at Jalan Nanas, Kuching hopefully still operating. Haven't been there for ages. Definitely will need their service. Interestingly self-adhesive vinyl with various patterns including wood grain can be found at Mr.DIY. Size starting 250cm x 5 meter RM16-ish. They are meant for house wallpaper use but nah, can use it for anything. Hella more cheaper than buying whole frigging roll from renovation company. Carbon fiber vinyl for car use can also found at Mr.DIY for hella more cheaper price compared to other places. Last time bought a roll for over RM70 at garage sales I feel like I got scammed... QUOTE(RUI @ Apr 12 2017, 04:16 PM) It's nearly impossible to find anything here in Kuching. Mind give some info about the acrylic?Look at the bright side. That's the opportunity. We provide such supplies and services. I know where to get acrylics and I'm looking to get my own laser cutter. PM me if interested to work together on future projects. Weeks back I found an advertising company behind MJC selling 4x6 2mm solid white RM90, but haven't visit them yet though to verify. Still way cheaper than that Tai... forgot what name supplier company... at the former 20cent building there, which was about RM150. |

V-slot extrusions, brackets and stuff from China. Ship through sea due to weight, took > 1 month to arrive...
Quality good, just bad packaging. The courier guys must see it is metal and slam it pretty hard... Need order some of these for moddings send me a message see if I can arrange something. These are not for sale, working on my own project. Will take some times to progress, gonna finish prototyping in 3D first. This post has been edited by M1X: May 27 2017, 06:46 PM |
