Bangkok blast wounds nine people

BANGKOK: Police in Thailand's capital say at least nine people have been wounded by a bomb explosion at a bus stop in downtown Bangkok.

Police Maj Gen Anuchai Lekbamroong, at the site of the explosion Sunday, declined to speculate whether the bombing was related to Thailand's political turbulence in the wake of mass protests earlier this year.

The site of the 5.45pm explosion was in front of Big C Ratchadamri, a large store in the city centre.

The bomb exploded shortly after voting ended in a parliamentary by-election, which pitted a government candidate against a jailed leader of the Red Shirt movement that staged the protests, which were broken up by the army in mid-May. - AP

I'm going to Bangkok this Thursday sad.gif

Before this, nobody reply me sad.gif thus I'm posting my question and updated itinerary here:

I found a van service priced at 2000Baht per day (8am-6pm, excluding petrol & toll). Do you think it's reasonable and a wise choice considering traveling in a group (with elders)?

In general, this is my itinerary:
Day 1 (Thursday) Bangkok
Grand Palace - optional
Temples - Wat Arun (by Ferry), Wat Pho (Declining Buddha), etc
MBK - shopping + Four-face buddha
Chinatown - dinner (Thanon Yaowarat)
Night: Pratunam / Suam Lum Night Bazaar

Day 2 (Friday) Pattaya
[I know it's not a good idea to go to Pattaya but it's a special request from a member of the group]
Night: Pratunam / Suam Lum Night Bazaar

Day 3 (Saturday ) Amphawa Floating Market
- street food, fireflies, temples, railway market, local wet market
Late night: Silom Road - optional (not for elders and underaged tongue.gif)

Day 4 (Sunday) Home

Dunno how much d price but u make check out the price n arrange it there & thre thru travel agent. Is abit pricey when they day it does not include petrol. So strange. Cos normall when we hired a taxi it is inclusive of petrol. I can understand if it excluding toll. Unless u r driving yourself like from car rental company then it will be exlcuding all petrol & tol

Since u r heading Wat Po , go to Grand Palace as well it just may be 1km away

I dunno whether yr first day that u arrive late or early n u arrive at u will not be able to do all as mentioned.

Go 4 face buddha before yr shopping.

Pataya will take u whole day already. Pratunam close at around 6 pm. Don't think u can make it after Pataya.

Since Day 3 is Saturday - might as well u go shopping at Chatuchak mkt.. Go to another floating mkt that Is recommended by forumers here. It is best that U read thru the pages here before u plan yr itinerary

Everything is fine and peaceful now, they have signboards all over saying "We Love Ratchaprasong" biggrin.gif Thailand is a nice and beautiful country except for political problem. You just have to go Siam Paragon, MBK, Siam Discovery, etc - everything is in the same area. Speaking about BKK and I feel like going there now, haha. I miss the food and shopping spree laugh.gif

Ya, I'd just checked out the Bangkok Post
The breaking news: Protest against temple listing

I'd booked my hotel last week when I thought that it would be safe to travel there after the red-shirt protesters already gone.
Who knows it comes again? cry.gif

I'd changed THB in money changer today some more, the rate quite low at 10.08.

But, I dunno whether should I continue or not.
I'd booked the air ticket 1 year ago during AA 0 fare. icon_question.gif

My sis is still there. Just sms her, she is still shopping now.

Therefore , I guess it is up to individual as to whether you wish to continue your trip to BKK

I was there in April where the soldiers disperses the red shirt protestors in Phan Fa bridge and it was fine. It wasn't so fun because shopping complexes are closed and that's about it smile.gif As long as you stay away from the area, I don't think anything bad would happen.

This is nothing, a bunch of crowd standing on the road (the scale is so tiny). I was there in April and when we were walking, red shirts are all over. We even manage to take photos with a few red shirt protestors smile.gif Plus when I went 2 weeks ago, everything was fine. Thai people are not so terrible in general but if you guys are worried then don't go.
