MechaHerc: Because:
- the Canon/Nikon 85mm F1.8 lenses are pretty affordable already. I don't see why it should be F2.8.
- it might be SAM, seeing how Sony has not released any screw-drive lens since the 16-105mm F3.5-5.6 DT in 2007.
- it might be APS-C only. Though this can be a plus.
I could only approve of it, if:
- it has a much better MFD because it is an APS-C design (like the 50mm F1.8 DT SAM). At least 45cm would be good since the 85mm lenses all only go to 85cm close at the moment.
- it has better maximum magnification, say 1:4x like the 50mm F1.8 DT SAM.
- it is much, much cheaper - maximum RM790 street price.
- it has fast gearing (whether SAM or not). So you can use it as a medium range telephoto to shoot action and portraits.
- it is sharp wide open, and contrasty. So far all the SAM lenses are good optically so this should not be a worry.
yeah, just google it, i see nikon, canon 85mm is pretty cheap.. around $380-450-ish at amazon..
now i understand wat u want to point out here..
