But you will need to have a soundcard which accepts line-in.
Simply connect your PS3 to your soundcard using a Y-cable to the line-in jack, enable the audio for line-in in your sound settings.

Set your sounds settings on your PS3 to A/V.

And you'll have sound on your speaker, both from your PC and PS3.
Feel free to have play music on your PC while playing a game on your PS3, "fake" in-game music ftw.

Your TV is 1080p right?
Go to your display settings and MAKE SURE you tick 720p.

Games that doesn't have 1080p upscale support will be dumped down to 480p or 576p if you do not have 720p ticked.
Only a handfull of games you are able to force it into running in 1080p.

Even if your monitors has speakers, using a HDMI-DVI cable will not grant you sound since DVI doesn't carry audio.
You need a direct HDMi cable to get audio.

But you can always do the "Y-cable audio" trick like shown in the first page with your PC speakers.

You could check if theres an audio-in jack on your monitor or not, because otherwise... I don't see another way how your monitor could get sound.
If so, you still gotta result to the y-cable to connect your PS3 using the AV cable to your monitor, audio out from the AV but video out from the HDMI-DVI.

Exactly what I do as well for a very long time now.

Who needs custom in-game music from the PS3 now?

But thankfully, they aren't too widespread.

Buy them from trusted sellers or directly from SonyStyle itself.
There are some ways to tel apart a fake and an original DS3, but unlike back in the PS1 and PS2 days... the build quality of fake DS3s are actually, good.

As for battery degreadation, nothing you can do about it.
Lithium-ion batts will lose its charge after years of usage, but by the time it drop to lasting 10 hours or less per-charge (this whould take 4 or even 5 years), it should already be time you get a new DS3.

Its the sound of the motherboard and the plastic shrinking and expanding itself after turning it off as it is pretty hot.
Its normal, many electronics does it. Listen to your laptop or desktop, it'll do the same thing.

As for the controller, no its not supposed to be like that.
My DS3 is white and the LED light doesn't protude like yours.
The shell should be solid white and the LED shouldn't be strong enough to penetrate it.

I wouldn't confirm your DS3 as fake yet, you have to double check some other stuff like the screws and the button quality.

Did you put a cap ontop of your analog sticks?
The D-pad is supposed to be loose, if its perfectly tight and isn't moving then it is a confirmed faked or a problem with the plastic that holds the D-pad.
