QUOTE(lastlovesong @ May 2 2010, 01:52 AM)
my gliders normally poop and pee just after wake up but maki seem to like to pee on my gf. so far no problem with jelly pee or pooping on me or my gf. i remember reading somewhere here bout feeding dunno what food will make them pee more or wet poop...

every morning, there seem to be a lot a of poop on the floor outside the cage. dont know who so itchy butt poop outside cage.

@reanne, the cockroach is catch wan or buy from shop?
*
If you feed alot of wet fruits like watermelon, papaya or ciku, the pee will be alot and the poo is very soft and wet.

The poop can be outside of the cage if they poo while climbing the cage bars. Then the poop just slides off.

QUOTE(Cabok @ May 2 2010, 02:55 PM)
may i know what type of vegetable usually u give?

because i give carrot, cabbage, she wont touch.
*
Gliders normally don't fancy veggies. But they do like the leafy greens and the crunchy snow peas. This really depends on the glider. My gliders eat sawi, carrot, cherry tomatoes, french beans, snow peas, bak choy, romaine.

No raw potatoes, the toxin in raw potatoes can kill a glider.

You can give bunga raya, even roses but they have to be organic and pesticide free, otherwise the glider would suffer poisoning.

QUOTE(maxtee @ May 2 2010, 05:39 PM)
u can give the raw potatoes for a try .if she dun like then try blanch it with hot boil water drain off the water ,let to cold and serve with other food she loves

why dun u try coat the vegi with the food she like or blend them togather into smoothy

yes the bunga raya we planted in our garden. my sg just can resist going after the bloosom while play time and the plant branches makes good chew stick too.

if u have them at home makes sure the plant is  free off pestisede and wash the bloosom troughly b4 u gives

for the branches makes sure u blanch with boiling water and sun dry -2-3 b4 u give to ur sg  icon_rolleyes.gif
*
Raw potatoes are toxic. Never ever feed potatoes and sweet potatoes raw. They must be steamed.

The potato plant is toxic. It contains an alkaloid named solanine that appears in all the external parts of the plant. It is also found in the tender buds of the tubers during the germination process. Excessive ingestion of raw potato can produce gastro-intestinal, liver, as well as heart damage.

QUOTE(nixonyang @ May 2 2010, 05:55 PM)
well, i dont feel disgusted because i rear bird before let me tell you they poop alot especially on my hand. Do their poop and pee smells strong when on my body?
*
The poop if dry doesn't smell much, but if it is semi moist, you can smell it a bit if you sniff it infront of your face. The pee smells.

QUOTE(nixonyang @ May 2 2010, 08:13 PM)
according to the youtube veterinarian video, they dont 'go' on him one.. i wonder why?
*
Personally don't trust that vet after what people in US found out about him. If he always keeps them in his pocket, most likely won't go coz they sleep. But my gliders that are bonded to me will go on me if needed. There is no way of potty training them. They are not like dogs and cats where they know how to go to a specific place.

QUOTE(jolenelarhhs @ May 19 2010, 01:03 AM)
Mmm..  not sure bout the artificial oil stuff, but it's the regular ball of string easily found in book shops. Big Book Shop in Taipan has them. This picture is found from the net, not taken by me.
*
Don't use those string. It's called parcel string but in my course we call it butcher string coz we use to tie the meat up and cook with it. But I have seen it happen where the glider's nails get caught in it coz it is made of cotton and fiber. For safety reasons better not lah.

You can use those nylon rope that people use for their clothes. Few meters in a roll, can buy from hardware store or Ace. Always wash the ropes in some soapy water, then later sun it for a few days. That would get rid of some bacteria and any chemicals on it that was air bourne in the shop.

QUOTE(Junid @ May 19 2010, 08:38 PM)
at what age usually suitable to feed gliders with canned insects (mealworms ,etc) ?
*
Once a joey is weaned from milk, which is usually around 6 weeks OOP that they start to try solid food, then their parents will teach them how to eat insects if they are given any. So it is suitable to feed joeys.

QUOTE(nixonyang @ May 19 2010, 10:06 PM)
cant wait till next year to get my first SG!

So when are you getting?

A friend had to go to Japan to further his study meh. Pity if the glider went to wrong hand, volunteer to keep until he returned, if he still wants it then.

But my syarat must neuter loh.
*
Like me loh. My friend went to New Zealand, die die I jadi Gip Gip's godma, so keeping him lah. LOL.

QUOTE(glidermama @ May 21 2010, 04:04 PM)
i read on the net that adult male gliders will still smell more after neutering than male gliders which are neutered when small BEFORE their glands develop...any expert can comment? because RJ is stinky but if neutering him wont help the smell i wont do that to the guy
*
The smell will lessen a bit, coz the scent glands on the head won't be so active, so the bald patch will hilang in time. You won't see immediate improvement. If a glider is neutered just when his bald patch is developing and it doesn't have a female cagemate, then the smell is not very noticeble. But those that have breed or have big bald patches, the smell will only lessen a bit. For me I'm so used to it, I don't see them as smelly LOL. But neutering stops unwanted breeding, and marking as well. Still up to you. For me I neuter to control breeding. Get feedback from yueyi since she neutered 2 males, then Emino as well should give you some insight.

they dont breed so i'm not worried about that..i just feel that it's unfair to the others who have to put up with something they cant stand when i can do somethg to prevent it..so far the males complain the loudest the ladies not so bad...cute factor wins over smell i guess.

this guy has a bald patch that would put bruce willis and kojak to shame!

Added on May 21, 2010, 4:39 pmoh and one more thing...apparently there's a less invasive technique to neutering similar to the ismael clamp used for circumcision which involves tying up something until the thing falls off like dried umbilical cord instead of surgery..anyone knows anythg about this?
*
The tie thing, I have asked Dr Jenny before and she says there is a high chance of an infection. I know it is done on farm animals. Sugar gliders are flexible and they can try to chew off the scrotum if they feel it is painful since sugar gliders self mutilate when either depress or in pain.

QUOTE(uSry^_^ @ May 21 2010, 04:49 PM)
guys.. can i introduce adult male wif a male joey? hun, bout my breeding project, seen want to batal since so hard to find female glider same age as "Joey" <--My glider name..   laugh.gif
*
Yes, it is possible. I have a friend who adopted 4 males, 2 pairs of father and son and they have never shared cages of met before she adopted them. And she adopted her 2nd pair after having the 1st pair for a few months.. And her introduction was only 1 day. No fighting at all. As long you read up on how to introduce gliders, then it is fine.

Who is the starter of Suggie Talks in facebook? Why is the person getting joeys from mass breeder and then nursing them and then sell them?

i saw 'knitted pouch' wow , isnt that a dangerous material for our suggie?
*
Knitted pouches.... I don't really like coz the wool can fray out. But I also do not like the texture, although it is a bit like fleece, but fleece is better. If one of the wool threads get loose then it can cause danger.

QUOTE(loritanah @ May 26 2010, 06:36 PM)
we got a problem here...

mass breeder that never owned any SG..just doing it for money.shah alam guy seksyen 7..

Now all also do for money. But they never think what would happen later. The more they support mass breeder, the more the mass breeder would breed more underage joeys for this "growing" demand.

now even using facebook to sell pets..omg..wat's wrong with these ppl
*
I also dunno. I guess they are just trying their luck. I see many doing this now coz the cost price for joeys dropped. Mass breeders trying to sell as many as they can to avoid too many stock at hand. They throw price to throw out stock too. So it will be never ending if people just continue getting from suppliers.

Like my blog, can see the joey that's like super small.... bought from PS lah.... then.... after 2 weeks eat slurp, now the joey is bigger, fur grow fluffy liao. I so happy to see the lil joey last Sunday. I gave it 50% chance of survival when I saw it 2 weeks ago coz it was so weak and thin. Now, sure 100% alive and well, just small size but catching up.

Can you imagine, that picture was only a few days after he bought it. I think he just fell for the joey, soft hearted and cannot tahan it looked so pitiful. But the joey is now very lucky to survive. It will grow up pretty well. Coz I'm now meeting the guy often.

HAhaha... yah, Teddy last time.... memang small. Reanne and I were so worried with his size and health coz he was from a mass breeder last time, same batch with my Kiah and Reanne's Billie. That was so long ago. He was one of the lucky ones. But his character and attitude damn special loh. Till now no glider is like Teddy. Special Addition LOL.

Hun : The joey is SIMPLY AMAZING ! She crabs alot and nib alot too but now she seems more familiar with me and guess what? She ain't jumping away from me anymore and miraculously she somehow can recognize her name (Jojo). She is so darn beautiful. She follows me to work and at night I spent at least an hour playing with her until she tired and rest on my shoulders. She loves the slurps, she could smell it like a mile away when I'm preparing it for her. Just wanna thank you so much for this lovely angel. She is making a difference in my life. Love her lots. You are indeed the best in what you do and your suggies grades are beyond expectations.

Cheers.

So happy you enjoy her. After she went to you, I see feel the cage is so empty already. Thank you for giving her a home.

Today i went to this pet store, i saw the poor little glider  cry.gif
eating an apple which surrounded by ants with its eyes closed.  shocking.gif
Only opening its eyes when the worker touched him.
i pity those gliders sad.gif
Then, there was this couple who wanted to get a glider.
So they asked one of the workers to come and let them play with the small little glider.
The worker was giving all the wrong info to the couple
'very easy to take care, eat fruits only, they like caves, don't like people, live up to 5years'
and he recommend those glass exo-terra(18"x18"x18") as their cage. shakehead.gif
Luckily, i manage to explain to them and they decided to walk out the store  brows.gif

He claim that it is 3months old. But its is as small as my pinky.
maybe the way i took it made it look bigger  sweat.gif

OMG.... the information is so bad.... thank goodness you manage to educate the couple a bit. I did that before, summore infront of the pet shop owner, twice at 2 shops. LOL.... the angry stares I get.... but luckily no kick yet.

Thanks yueyi for the pics.

Gliders are normally active at night, but I have met a few people with gliders that follow their sleeping pattern. They sleep at night and play during the day. Weird....

Now I got 1 glider which is super inactive. Doesn't wanna move much, just wanna sit on my lap or shoulder to chill out. Not sick, just overweight so it's lazy hahahah..... can view my blog to see her pictures. Darn cute but I worry bout her health since she is 140g. Too heavy.

guys , how much will dr jenny charge to cure a self mutilation sugar glider? i do have money right now but its for other purpose. need to set up my budget first before visiting the vet. =(
*
Cure? There is no way to cure a self mutilating glider by medication.... unless you are putting it as treatment for a self mutilated glider.

It depends how bad the self mutilation is. If it is the tail and it is just a chew wound, an antibiotic and a cleaning of the would cost less than RM40, but if it requires amputation, steroids and injections, then it will be more.

Long time never come in. Gonna have my exam later LOL....

Anyway, many people make the mistake of size and age. If see my blog, I have many pics of underage joeys and compared to my joeys, people think they are near adults. Like my incident with the pet shop in Sunway Pyramid, I took a 2 month old OOP joey to test them, they joke and said mine must be 5 months or more. Said I got cheated by seller.... then showed me a tiny underage joey.... then I replied to them, how can I be cheated when I bred it myself and counted the age? Then they keep quiet.... summore got a crowd, so malu.

Proper sized and age joeys grow better and live longer. I have met many people who bought joeys from suppliers, agents, pet shops.... and all underage, come find me for help.... sadly, many come find me too late and get in touch with Dr Jenny too late, they can die within a year if no nutritional help is given. The common mistake is also underfeeding them and giving them food that is not nutritious enough.

I was at the Pet Expo with my gliders and a 1 month old joey. Many thought my joey was 2 months, coz she already had a very fluffy tail even for a 1 month old. But the fact that she still climbs and wants to be carried by her mom, tells that she is not ready to leave her parents. Suppliers, mass breeders do not do that, they simply snatch the joey away once eyes open. My joey still dunno how to eat solid food yet so if separated from her mom, sure die or sure force herself to eat and then that would lead to undernourishment and sick glider.

That's why many people dunno.... some thought we breeders tipu orang... but the true fact, pet shops yang tipu orang.

They would give all sorts of reasons lah like saying easy to take care, eat kuaci, eat apple only, keep in hamster cage, no need feed water, keep in aquarium also ada.

Emino is only advising..... to me he is one dedicated glider owner. Many times I feel like scolding people for buying underage, I get so many calls and sms about till I wish.... I wish to ignore but I got no heart to do it.... always these calls and sms are about their joeys dying or sick all coz underage and undernourished....

So that's why it is important to educate people.
