QUOTE(Reanne @ Jun 13 2010, 02:02 PM)
The alpha male's bald spot usually will be noticeably bigger. The bald spot on the sons will be smaller & not as visible. Once the alpha male is removed then the bald spot will become more noticeable on the offspring. This case is what happened with Joey when he went to his new home & his bald spot became very obvious. However though by hierarchy males other than the alpha male should not mate, the risk of the non-alpha mating with the females is still there. This applies to mother and female siblings.

Put it in another word, don take the risk.

Guys, 1 of my glider is acting abnormal.
-Normally she is one of the most crab and trying to run away
-Today she just stand and stare and wont move at all unless necessary

I think it is because yesterday I let her run all over my room and might be consuming some dust as well.

Help ... Dr jenny not working today =\
*
What bout her appetite? Eating well?

Don get panic, sometime they will jus stun stand there for hours.. my gliders will do that...

QUOTE(Junid @ Jun 13 2010, 05:02 PM)

Hi all,

Just wondering, do glider smells bad?
*
Male glider will develop musky odour when they reach maturity age, and they will do marking on the cage/owner/other gliders as well.

However, neutered male glider woudn't have such issue. Most of the cases happened where the smell drop a lot after neutering.

For female glider, they smelss good for me. As long as you clean their cage, food bowl and wipe their body regularly, i don think there is any problem in smell.

Wow thanks for the fast reply. How often do we need to clean their cage?
And to clean the cage, are we suppose to wipe or wash?
Sorry, i'm really new here. wink.gif
*
I will suggest u clean the whole cage at least once a week. If you have an innate male glider in the cage, then u better wipe the cage using cloth every 2-3days to reduce the smell.

There r different ways of cleaning the cage. Some will use detergent, some will use dettol... If u r using any chemical/substance that u are not certain whether it's safe for animal, then u hv to make sure u rinse the cage well using a lot water and sun dry it. Make sure no leftover detergent or soap on the cage.

I'm using Germisep (http://www.germisep.com/), a disinfectant which is safe for animal and pet use. Normally i wipe the whole cage using diluted germisep water, then wipe again using clean water. Because i'm staying in condo, and it's very inconvenient for me to push the cages to rinse and sun dry so i couldn't use any dettol/soup/detergent.

Thanks for the germisep link!
I heard ppl mention cleaning the cage using water + vinegar to reomve the smell. Have you try that before?
*
Yea, a lot ppl using vinegar for pets cleaning purposes. But i don like it, coz personally don like the smell. tongue.gif

And one thing, i don think vinegar kill bacteria and viruses.

Done a basic reading on vinegar. Yes it does kill 80% of bacteria and viruses. smile.gif

i clean my pets area with bleach . 3cups water mix with 2drops of bleach. that kills bacteria and really does help to reduce odors .but after u do that make sure u wipe the area with plain water again cuz bleach is quite strong. tongue.gif
*
Using bleach without rinsing the cage is quite risky, to be safe, u better rinse the cage using water and then sundry it. Otherwise, ur glider might get to lick the bleach if there is any leftover on the gap between cage bar.

I heard the minimum cage size is 24 x 24 x 36. Is that the minimum?
I mean, if we get any cage smaller than the above size, it's not comfortable for the sugar glider is it?
*
Yes, 3feet tall cage is the minumum size for glider.

They are sugar glider, they hav one whole forest to run glide and jump for whole night. Their metabolism rate is very high and therefore they have really high exercise level to sustain it.

Even if u r using a 3feet tall cage, i will still encourage u to get a wodentwheel. Exercise is very important for their bone development. smile.gif

anyone here have experience dealing with matted hair?

i tried using warm water to wipe it(tried few days already),but its not helping...weird thing is both of my girl is having it at the same location

i did think of trimming it off..but its better for me to consult some expert here 1st.
*
Erm.. hv u try to find out how does this happen??

It will be very difficult for u to trim it off, u might jus hurt her accidentally... Try combing?

Be it 180g or 150g or 80g, weight is normally a general guidelines to determine overweight or obese glider.

To really diagnose obese glider, you will need to look at other elements such as diet, activity level, body metabolism rate, body anatomy, body fat and muscle, living environment, climate and etc... then only you can come out with a result whether the particular glider is obese or not..

hey guys, wat do u think of RC33 for glider's treat cuz RC32/34 is a bit more saltier due to cat's food while RC33 is for small dogs like chi hua hua, miniature pinscher n ect ect nt so salty~
i remember too salty is not good for our pets expect for cats, correct me if i'm wrong cuz i wen to a pet shop to survey kibbles where they sold mostly RC's brand~
*
Erm.. u mean RC Mini Puppy 33? Quickly googled for the ingredients and look through it, not really good quality dog food i think..

Why do you wanna use dog food as treat? You can only feed few kibbles in a week...

Yo my fellow glider owner...my gf just get a cute glider from kelvin last saturday and she been curious and active since the first day we bring her home. She only make the barking sound once only, it's when my gf try to get her out from her sleeping pouch in the evening  tongue.gif ...she is quite tame and can bond with us quite easily, kelvin did a pretty good job at taming her before hand xD so there is no serious trouble handling her. trying to get a partner for her from jitshiong tonight if possible as i think she would enjoy having someone who can speak her language i suppose  tongue.gif smile.gif  drool.gif

will send her to the vet in a couple weeks for health check  smile.gif  and picture will be uploaded once i hv collect all of em *peace

Me and my gf will take good care of her, kelvin :Cheers  thumbup.gif
*
Congratz and welcome to join us here.

Wow, it 's pretty fast for you to get her another partner... male or female for the second one?

getting a male ...hmm if they dun get along well den seperate them wif different cage...let them hv their time in bonding 1st..is that ok ar? heh i noe its too soon to get another but still something good are in pairs  @@
*
u shudnt get one male that soon, the male will get mature faster n rape d female.. It's good to keep in pair but not both male and female at the same age.

QUOTE(geo @ Jun 21 2010, 03:57 PM)
is it ok if i get a male 2 months younger than female then?
*
Then it will be better becoz average maturity age for female is bout 8months old and male can get mature as early as 3-5months..

Therefore normally I will suggest to keep the first female Joey for 3-4months then only go for second male Joey.. And within this few months, as long as owner provide sufficient companion time she will be fine to be alone..

Moreover, u can use the first few months time to bond with the first glider.. If u handle both unbonded glider at the same time, they are more likely to bond with one another rather than owner..

Just my personal opinion..

erm, any1 knws hw 2 go My Vet Clinic from mid valley by public transport ?

Thx  smile.gif
*
Easiest and fastest would be take train to Kelana Jaya LRT and then take taxi.

If u wan it to be cheaper, then u take FREE SHUTTLE BUS to Ikarno Power Centre from Kelana Jaya LRT, then take taxi to kota damansara. But slightly more time consuming becoz shuttle bus got their schedule. smile.gif

I don think there is any other experienced glider vet in KL apart from the one listed at front page.. Better go for Dr Jenny or Dr Yeoh, to be safe.

eric: my glider poo is very lembik.. (cirit) how do i do?
*
Glidermama is right, u can steam some pumpkin, and serve high fiber fruits to firm their stools.

Lembik as in all watery or soft like toothpaste? If it's not shapeless and totally water, then it's not diarrhea. smile.gif

QUOTE(glidermama @ Jun 23 2010, 12:00 PM)
that one i let the expert jawab.. but if me.. i give a bit of steamed pumpkin or good fibrous fruits to help calm the tummy..baru tukar diet or honey ke?

cry.gif i also wanna go gathering.. mid valley on saturday sounds crowded tho.. kang my kiddies hilang or worse go abuse some other peoples' pets.. shakehead.gif

eric if i go i wanna show you what furla (the sweet little girl glider) i was sooo worried being raped by RJ did to the big softy RJ.. doh.gif  shakehead.gif  ohmy.gif  she ripped out the middle of his backabout half an inch sampai nampak muscles and bone!!! i had to take him to get stitches from dr jenny...this happened after he was neutered...now they are separated and waiting till he's fully healed baru nak reintroduce..but i keep switching cages and pouches to keep them used to each other's smells.

Added on June 23, 2010, 12:02 pmbadzcarol...if your lil girls is hot in the pouch maybe get her a hammock with a lil opening to sleep in..
*
Yea, should be crowded from past year experience. Bring ur hubby along so he can help out to take care of the children. Come and join, can see alot pets and meet up other glider owner.

Some male glider is very rough when mating, they will grab hard and bite the female glider. And sometimes, it break through their skin and cause injury. We called it Mating Wound.

In ur case terbalik pulak.. mayb Furla struggle and refuse to mate with RJ when RJ intended to do so...
