lol rclxms.gif true.. people don't seem to understand that pets are YOUR responsibility for the length of THEIR lifetime. i'm leaving Kuching in July because my dad is insistent on sending me to KL to further my studies.. when i brought up my reasons for not leaving - eg. my pets, i have a cat, 3 dogs and 2 gliders, he told me nevermind, he can take care of them. people seem to think that it is easy to have pets. people seem to think that as long as you feed them, they won't die, which may be true, but the reason people get pets is because they want a companion. you have your friends and family, but all they have is you! haizzzz...

when i imported the gliders in, i was sure i am never going to leave Kuching. but now i have no choice. if i knew this was my father's plan, i wouldn't have imported the gliders in in the first place!!! mad.gif

my options are to sell my personal gliders or ask a friend to take care of them until i get back.

what would you guys do?
*
last time u import from KL?
how long it take need quarantine also ar?

have u though of taking them to KL since u are studying here...if u balik kuching can send for boarding lor

there was no quarantine.. but the procedure is quite long.. it took me a few months to apply for the permit..

i'm only going to KL for a year, maybe two.. i think i will sell my current gliders and get them again in the future when i have a stable life (eg. married) because i want to give my 101% to my pets, and i am not confident that i can do that now because of the field i'm in... but i really feel so sad.. it's like putting your own kid up for adoption.. cry.gif
*
sad.gif so sad...really giving them up for adoption.cry.gif i understand how u feel..if I'm forced to let go of my gliders i also dunno what to do...if no quarantine and most are paper work i think it's worth bringing them to KL also lor since u are studying here..many of us are student also manage to take care of them..i think you can too since u are dedicated...but choice depend on u.

Hey all, I want your opinion on this: http://kageh.deviantart.com/art/Sugar-Gliders-Diet-158002250
Do you think that that is a severely stained glider, or just a red/cinnamon glider?

Aside from that, here are some pictures of my lovely (and super bitey) Meeko. He takes a bite out of everything because he is so damn greedy. My fingers are numb from him biting me, the trick about tapping sugar glider's noses when they bite or blowing on them is out of the question because I want him to trust me and I don't want him to associate me with anything bad.. Suggestions will be good, I don't want him biting my friends and traumatizing them.. rclxub.gif Haha..

Closeup. x)

Hope you enjoyed the pictures!

(As you can see, I'm nocturnal too. HAHA.)

Ps: Sad to say, I have let Xiao Gui go to a new home.. I previously wanted to sell both Xiao Gui and Meeko, but after getting my heart broken over selling Xiao Gui, I have decided to keep Meeko and bring him over to KL with me! ^^ Oh, and I have also noticed a brown liquid in Meeko's cage... Wondering if any sifus can give me a peace of mind by telling me what is it.. My glider is still active and naughty as usual, but the brown liquid excretion really worries me.

[attachmentid=1576623]
*
i seen that picture before..i think the article i saw was about comparing a wild local glider species in indonesia and a domestic sugar glider that we have as pets

looks like pee mix with poo like jit shiong said..wattery poo is thicker and smell bad...yea i feel he's stress coz he was always with his cage mate but now separated...give him more attention la hope he will be fine since u can get xiao gui back..meeko certainly have a lovely colour

hey everyone!!

@jolene
that's call parcel string...to me i feel that string for gliders they will get easily tangled and get caught so must be very careful..might cause suffocation

QUOTE(glidermama @ May 21 2010, 04:04 PM)
i read on the net that adult male gliders will still smell more after neutering than male gliders which are neutered when small BEFORE their glands develop...any expert can comment? because RJ is stinky but if neutering him wont help the smell i wont do that to the guy
*
i neuter both my males coz i find it very smelly last time...they were just developing their bald spots tat time can see a bit of hair lost...after neutering the smell really reduces a lot...it really helps...if u ask me i will say the gliders dont really smell but the pee and poo in the cage smell a little...tat's normal la...so if u keep the cage hygienic and clean often the smell is controled...u can take your gliders and kiss kiss also no need to hold your breath..lol

Added on May 23, 2010, 2:35 pm
QUOTE(eric138 @ May 21 2010, 04:21 PM)
It's truth..the earlier u neuter the higher possibility the smell will gone... I have seen some cases where the glider bald spot still there although the glider are neutered.

However, in most of the cases, the musky smell of the male glider reduced dramatically after neutered. Of course, you don neuter the glider at age 6 or 7 la...

There are a lot more good benefits of neutering glider apart from the smell issue.
*
yupyup...hey tot u gonna neuter mickey too...become 2nd time daddy already now..single joey?saw the pictures... cute!!

QUOTE(glidermama @ May 21 2010, 04:36 PM)
they dont breed so i'm not worried about that..i just feel that it's unfair to the others who have to put up with something they cant stand when i can do somethg to prevent it..so far the males complain the loudest the ladies not so bad...cute factor wins over smell i guess.

this guy has a bald patch that would put bruce willis and kojak to shame!

Added on May 21, 2010, 4:39 pmoh and one more thing...apparently there's a less invasive technique to neutering similar to the ismael clamp used for circumcision which involves tying up something until the thing falls off like dried umbilical cord instead of surgery..anyone knows anythg about this?
*
for umbilical cord they drop off naturally coz the blood supply is cut coz it's detached from the placenta..but sugar glider i dont think they have umbilical cord since they dont have placenta coz they are marsupials..neutering by the tie method will actually cut of the blood supply to organ(testis)...then the organ will die and eventually drop off...while in the process of dying organ it will also be prone to infection and may spread to other parts of the body...this will also promote self mutilation by sg...

surgically remove the disadvantage if because of the anestetics...if over dose could cause side effects and the drugs action is on the brain which cause the animal to be sleepy/drowzy/numb so can carry out the sugery without pain..after they stop the drug your glider will be ok and might be bit drowzy but will resume normal in a while coz the drug that is use is short term effect only which is good..so go to an experience vet then u dont have to worry happy.gif

I also dunno. I guess they are just trying their luck. I see many doing this now coz the cost price for joeys dropped. Mass breeders trying to sell as many as they can to avoid too many stock at hand. They throw price to throw out stock too. So it will be never ending if people just continue getting from suppliers.

Like my blog, can see the joey that's like super small.... bought from PS lah.... then.... after 2 weeks eat slurp, now the joey is bigger, fur grow fluffy liao. I so happy to see the lil joey last Sunday. I gave it 50% chance of survival when I saw it 2 weeks ago coz it was so weak and thin. Now, sure 100% alive and well, just small size but catching up.
*
lucky the owner put effort to take good care of the poor joey...the picture condition was terrible

Hun : The joey is SIMPLY AMAZING ! She crabs alot and nib alot too but now she seems more familiar with me and guess what? She ain't jumping away from me anymore and miraculously she somehow can recognize her name (Jojo). She is so darn beautiful. She follows me to work and at night I spent at least an hour playing with her until she tired and rest on my shoulders. She loves the slurps, she could smell it like a mile away when I'm preparing it for her. Just wanna thank you so much for this lovely angel. She is making a difference in my life. Love her lots. You are indeed the best in what you do and your suggies grades are beyond expectations.

Cheers.

nice..it's best thing on earth when your pets are close to u and soon get bonded.can see improvement each time we hold them in our hands..thats the greatest thing about having sugar glider

Today i went to this pet store, i saw the poor little glider  cry.gif
eating an apple which surrounded by ants with its eyes closed.  shocking.gif
Only opening its eyes when the worker touched him.
i pity those gliders sad.gif
Then, there was this couple who wanted to get a glider.
So they asked one of the workers to come and let them play with the small little glider.
The worker was giving all the wrong info to the couple
'very easy to take care, eat fruits only, they like caves, don't like people, live up to 5years'
and he recommend those glass exo-terra(18"x18"x18") as their cage. shakehead.gif
Luckily, i manage to explain to them and they decided to walk out the store  brows.gif

He claim that it is 3months old. But its is as small as my pinky.
maybe the way i took it made it look bigger  sweat.gif
*
it was very responsible for u to explain to them..luckily you were there...

errrrrrrrr why don't u feed hpw or slurp?
if u tried hpw but she dont eat then u get slurp la coz slurp cant post since it's ready made..last time i intro hpw they dont really eat and the poo very smelly for few days mayb coz thats starting..but their appetite is not as good as eating slurp...i'm using slurp even though have to meet every 2 months to get new one i willing to do that since my gliders love it so much...
