I don't, mind on the brand as long as its reliable or common, I have a budget of 3.5k or so, decent specs like i5 processor/4gig, upgradeable to 8/decent graphic card, good for gaming/multi-tasking and 15" screen.

I'm planning to buy a laptop within the week, my forced choice is Acer Aspire 5740 unless there's a better alternative, I'm all ears. btw is Aspire 5942 a good laptop?

I would rate SU7300 > AMD Neo > Celeron.
With exception AMD Neo would have better graphic power but in this case, doesn't have meaning much since its usage is just for assignment/online.
While for Celeron 743, its single core, and also it would run at fullspeed at all time since it doesn't have speedstep.
Well, if have the budget, the one with SU7300 would be much preferable, though.
Both model that using it, would have similar performance, the difference is on cosmetic wise and battery life, (Vostro V13 (30Whr) will be on the low side, around 2-3 hours iinm, compared to Thinkpad with 63WHr, with the same spec, it should get double the battery life.)

The major flaw on Vostro V13 is its 1 slot RAM. In a realistic price, you can only get 2GB.
Screen, Thinkpad glossy doh.gif while Vostro V13 is matte.

Perhaps i should get the Vostro V13 instead of Thinkpad Edge.
2GB of the RAM should be enough for running win7 and for normal application usage as i see reviews from other there isn't any major lag or problem occur with the model yet.

As i know this model is not available on retails store last time and only able to purchase directly from DELL website. How about now? Anyone have seen the model in any particular place? I would like to go and check it out before purchasing.

M11X would game better than those three,
Macbook, if you want to use Mac OS X
Acer 5740G, better cpu but weaker gpu than M11X.

i'm looking for a laptop range around 1.5k with OS and internal or external writer.and comes with international warranty (as i want it to get for my sis as a present, she currently study in hk) which laptop will u all recommend?and of course she wants it light weight as the one she using now is 3kg and its heavy for her to carry around....

For 1.5K, not much of choice, expecially with international warranty.
Dell Inspiron 14@RM1499 and Compaq CQ40-712TU@RM1499 the only fit the budget.
But for Dell you need to upgrade the warranty to 3 Years for it to be international and as for compaq, no idea.

or Dell Inspiron 13@RM1399, but you would need to purchase external dvd-drive separately...

3 years warranty is another RM369, provided you buy it online.

Smaller notebook, Acer 1410T@RM1499, 11.6'', better spec than most netbook but no OS and no dvd-drive, one year international traveller warranty.

Or if interested with netbook, can consider Dell Mini 10v@RM999, 10'' though,

Windows 7 Home Premium would cost around RM300...
If really considering Acer 1410T + Windows, its better to get Acer 1810TZ@RM1899, it comes with Ori Windows, bigger hdd, bigger ram.

The other 11'' would be Dell inspiron 11z, starting from RM1.7k

How long battery life do you need?
5 hours is achievable by 1410T/1810TZ/4810TZ..
If you need more than that, then your choice is only netbook, those previously mentioned acer and dell inspiron 11z is CULV notebook, they have performance between netbook and regular notebook while still keeping quite a long battery life.

For netbook, just choose the battery life/design/warranty that you like, performance wise, they all pretty much similar.
