QUOTE(dxjb @ Mar 5 2010, 04:43 AM) if im not mistaken these test channels are always there long before Byond Lets not forget RTM is supposed to go HD this year get ready for another thread RTM HD ! Try checking on old decoder Anyways if there were new TEST channels than i think its for the World Cup Astro will probably set up temporary channels to show the matches They will show ALL 64 MATCHES IN HD Some matches will be at the same time so thats why they need more than a few channels I dont expect any new HD channels Maybe just before World Cup in May or june to attract new subscribers But my gut feeling is new channels only after World Cup It would be more strategic as people will need new reason to subscribe for Byond since the World Cup will be over Astro said at least 10 HD channel by end of 2010 We already got 5 Lets wait and see BTW, RTM so kepochi they got the terrestrial rights for World Cup eventhough only 24 matches Live adn 11 delayed Their advertisement start in January already So bangga they beat Media Prima (TV3 nTV7 8TV TV9) Even have slogan 1Malaysia 1 Sorakan, WTF? Astro can show 64 matches LIVE also not so kepochi!!! This post has been edited by smileguy: Mar 5 2010, 06:46 AM |

QUOTE(RAMChYLD @ Mar 5 2010, 02:23 PM) That issue, you should blame local electronics industry for not wanting to introduce digital receiver with their TV yet. England already have successor to Sharp 19A35: 19D1E. Malaysia still selling 19A35. Heck, even Singapore already introduced TV sets with digital tuner. And the wallbanger is that these sets will work fine in Malaysia. Please ,I hope the dont come up with tuners now. As it is most of us bought HD ready sets 7 yrs ago with component outports and with Astro's HD all the sets are best disposed. We never used those sets cos there was no HD. We were cheated too now we know HD ready and full HD are 2 different things. As such its best they dont add digital tuners now cos many of us just upgraded our HTS and we cannot afoord another change ! I think Digital TV standard already ratified to be DVB-T and now their argument is whether digital radio should be DAB+ or DMB-T (as a bonus, DMB-T can also do TV. Maybe that's why their DMB-T transmission only has RTM1 and 2, but all national radio channels and buttloads of state-specific channels like Sabah FM and Sarawak FM. Likewise their DVB-T transmission has new TV channels but only the national radio channels.) |

QUOTE(RAMChYLD @ Mar 6 2010, 03:18 AM) You didn't catch their trial during the olympics, didn't you? as far channel shoice is concerned for Astro its take it or leave it situation. They are big so they always control channels and channel contents. The monopoly of being a sole provider helped them prosper.Arena has been shelved cos of RTM's intervention for some rights , I read somewhere. The same old story again RTM HD tak jadi, TMIPTV tak jadi MITV tak jadi but Singapore so small you have two providers there here so big but only one walks tall Exactly my same argument, sir. Is it even right to call it on-demand? The correct definition for "on-demand" is what it says on the tin- you only transmit it when asked for, to the requester and no one else. Like Netflix meets Youtube. Not show one episode of a show over and over and over. The technology means that you can do it with only one channel, no need 25. I thought Arena will be RTM's? They do have an Arena channel on the digital transmission. Forget about it, Astro is seriously lacking in lots of channels that Singapore already has and apparently isn't really arsed about bringing them in. They just confirmed with me that the 9 test channels is for FIFA world cup when I called them this evening to make the exact complain regarding the channels Singapore and Indonesia has and we don't have. I think it was pushed back to 2012? That's nice, enjoy RTM Digital a few days then Boom! end of the world. |

QUOTE(RAMChYLD @ Mar 10 2010, 12:21 AM) Upscale SD to HD is pretty much moot. Won't bring back details lost when dropping resolution to SD... Astro always has channels which wl listen to them, BBC has standards of its own it wont bow to Astro so it went off !Kampus Astro is politics who cares what decorder they use !As for the Kampus Astro box... Has the Max logo there Also, today I received the DETV decoder I subscribed for my mother. PQ better than Astro SD although definitely tak setanding HD. I initially had issues with connectivity but the connection problem went away when I changed my AP to CH11 from CH8 (which for some reason quite a few APs also share that channel in my area). Mom very happy that she get her china channels again. But the biggest thing is they're doing it through a 1MBPS stimix line. Something TM keeps telling me is impossible to do through stimix with their IPTV box and insisting that it needs their HSBB to work due to "technical limitations" and then refusing to let me sign up because my area has no HSBB. Excuse me, the letters "IPTV" makes me believe that their decoder connects to the router by ethernet (which is validated with the fact that the TM fiber system is a data-only system with IP Telephony and IPTV running as part of the Triple-Play system. Logic will tell you that to use IP, it needs to jack into the router). If DETV's IPTV system can deliver decent quality streaming video over stimix 1M, why can't the TM-IPTV system? Yes, all these quest for TM-IPTV is because Astro don't want to give me BBC Channels. And on that, a suggestion to Astro: DETV's on-demand system uses Ethernet to stream programs to the user. The server will only stream the program to the user and that user alone only when requested. This is the real definition for on-demand. Try to migrate your AOD system over to that, it'll save you satellite bandwidth that you can use to carry more channels. After all, all the latest decoders already have Ethernet port. And while at it, migrate SD to DVB-S2 so PQ can improve. You've pulled off mass decoder change before, do it again. I too have the same question if DETV can stream why cant TMIPTV ? Maybe some experts here can shed some light ! This post has been edited by smileguy: Mar 10 2010, 09:07 AM |

QUOTE(RAMChYLD @ Mar 10 2010, 11:08 AM) As I said before, I dun care about PQ. I just want my BBC shows. And if DETV's PQ is quite good at 1M, I dun see how TM's can be that bad at 1M. If that claim is true half of Astro channels should have gone by now !! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DVB-RCS - It can be done. Also, Astro claims that their decoder can send back viewer statistics- that's how they decide that BBC has "few people" watching and axe the channel (for some reason tho, suddenly I remember an old Square One TV Mathnet episode when they told me that). QUOTE(eMKs @ Mar 10 2010, 12:14 PM) Just wait end of this month for TM IPTV launching, maybe you'll get better idea what the're offering. Just pray they will provide 'lite' version to stimix user as well. Is TM launching IPTV end of the month ? Only KL or nationwide ? :hmm:Heard or read nothing about it so far ! BTW just upgraded to 1mbps sad to say it stinks ! I doubt it, if you watch press conference during byond launching day, the CEO said its just 1 way. DVB-RCS need 2-way. Only way to teach them get about 50000 to terminate sports package right away, confirmed they wld bang bbbbs ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- ![]() Added on March 13, 2010, 10:34 ameyond reality WHAT'S THE BIG IDEA? By HAFIDZ MAHPAR WHEN you watch a horror movie, sometimes you may feel like screaming to the characters: “Get the hell out of there!” The same thought crosses my mind when I watch the Astro B.yond TV commercial, now playing regularly on Astro and in cinemas. A shot of the Astro B.yond commercial featuring a scene where a submarine emerges from the ground in a suburban neighbourhood. Would you still sit in your living room reading the newspaper if you notice a growling cheetah barely a leap away? If your son is lying on the lawn making a window with his fingers and a fire-breather blows a ball of fire at him, would he continue to lie there waiting to be barbecued? If your two eldest daughters are playing by the pool and a Chevy Camaro, flipping through the air, nearly crash into them, would they continue giggling? Would they enjoy seeing a motorcyclist crashing through your house’s glass door before she proceeds to launch nasty-looking missiles from her state-of-the-art motorcycle? Meanwhile, your little daughter is riding her tricycle close to the road, apparently with no one watching her. Maybe you don’t think passing cars are a threat, but wouldn’t you be just a little worried when a submarine emerges from underground, cracks open the road right in front of your daughter and sends chunks of granite and dust flying? When a long-necked dinosaur blows its hot breath on your whole family, would you and your loved ones stand happily on the same spot, thinking: “Hey, it’s probably just a herbivore”? You know what I’d tell your family in that situation? RUN FOR YOUR LIFE! Flee like that family from the movie Poltergeist, check into a hotel, and throw out the TV set, where all these scary things seem to emanate from. Creating fantasy is fine, but the world of imagination created should still have some logic. However, in the B.yond ad, there is a lot of unrelated elements thrown haphazardly together - from goalkeeper to Native American on horseback - and the family at the centre of the madness, for the most part, does not react like a normal family would. Contrary to what the commercial’s voice-over says, this is not real. Any creative could come up with the hackneyed premise of having elements from TV shows appearing live in front of the viewers. We’ve seen this in movies and music videos. The trick is to transform that premise into something fresh. A lot of hard work has clearly gone in at the post-production stage. But just like Astro’s high-definition package take-up will depend on good content being available, technical achievement alone will not make an advertisement great. The commercial has an advantage of high frequency of airing and an unusually-long running time of 2½ minutes, but it has no real emotional pull. There was a time not so long ago when many thought traditional hand-drawn animation was passe with the huge commercial success of Pixar’s CGI animated films, but Disney’s The Princess and The Frog changed that. More than technology, it’s the content that makes a difference. I hope this does not jump-start agencies into placing more importance on technical execution rather than on ideas. ● Associate editor Hafidz Mahpar is so backward in technology that he still uses a cassette tape recorder when conducting interviews. Imagining Asto's reply ......................................................We have noted that beyond subscribers have raised the issue of upscaled F1 on ESPn. Pls be advised that Asto follows strict international standards of broadcasting and upscaling content is part of satelite broadcasting. We wish to add that Asto is proud to be the first to bring upscaled F1. We wld from time to time add more upscaled HD channels.............................

Upscaling SD to HD is a common practice from what I know but most TV stations acknowledge that they are screening upscaled content not like our friend misleading the public to fall for Beyond ! I suspected long ago except for NGC and History all the other HD channels did not carry full HD content but upscaled content instead. Very soon by upscaling they wl be full HD in the region . At last Beyond was NOT real anyway, how sad !!:(
