You can can still stretch via your TV if you prefer to.
Zoom option is perfect for 4:3 letterboxed shows.

I'll make sure your comments are heard at work tomorrow

regarding subtitles in the black area on Discovery. This has always been the case of any 4:3 letterboxed programme.

I know what the letter s means in V 1.1s. It's Sheer Stupidity!

Thanks bro, really appreciate that.

no worries

so it's pretty clear your thoughts on zoom. Let us know about other issues. That whole PQ on SD channels over HDMI should be resolved also the random black screen going to HD channels should be fixed to.

In order to make my wife happy i did this also.. so can watch akademi fantasia in peace and also all england properly... I hope this is temporary measure that we need to do until they rectify...

Note: when using HDMI cable i cant control the sound.. but when using components i can caontrol it...

Come ASTRO fix it quickly before we have to pay next month!!!
*
why can't you control the volume?

read this
http://stinkyfruit.wordpress.com/2010/02/1...volume-control/

and if you need more TV codes
http://www.astro.com.my/byond/smartuserguide.asp click the “view codes” link below the remote control.

My TV in Sanyo.. have tried all codes and tried search.. but still cant control the volume sad.gif

The TV code does not set the volume control. You need to press "ok" &"vol+" till the remote blinks twice.

You don't need 2 remotes and you don't need to change the aspect ratio when switching between HDMI and component or composite.

But it's not an Astro production. It is FIA and if they are going to do SD 16:9 and ESPNHD wants to programme it the the only option is to upscale.

FIA has World Feed for F1 in 16:9 right? Better if Astro/ESPNHD upscale that one. At least the AR won't be distorted.
*
thought they did? Looked right on my TV when I watched at end of qualifing yesterday

Yeah. I see suddenly this match start on 20 minute of game. Seems astro skip this game for first 20 minute.  doh.gif
*
why are you slapping your head over this?
the Man U/Fulham fan has option and knows full well that the games overlaps with the end of the F1 race.

They can now switch over to Ch 832 to see it in HD but they also would not have missed any of the game if watching it from Ch 812.

How would you have handled this situation differently Minimize?
You have one HD channel with rights to both events that overlap, what would you do differently?

yeah its true,

they listened to you are replacing zoom with "fit to screen". which is technically the same as the old stretch feature but renamed for some reason, probably just to be clearer about what the feature is?

update will happen thursday morning some time.

As with the latest update just put your decode into standby when you go to bed and "on" it in the morning.

the statement is on the astro facebook page

Zoom will be replace with Fix to screen. Still wonder what is fix to screen means. Just wait and see this thursday night.

Maybe Fix to screen is,
1- Like stretch mode (just change a name) or
2- Like zoom mode (just change a name) or
3- follow original source aspect ratio (will get 16:9 SD and 4:3)
*
It is option 1. it's a name change.

there is no more original source aspect ratio - when was the last movie shown on HBO, Cinemax or Star Movies actually 4:3?
*
All 3 channels are playing full frame 4:3 right now
HBO: Hell Boy2
Max: The Lodger
Star Movies: Spaceballs

All these channels buy the movies in 4:3 format, they aren't doing the conversion during broadcast they are acquiring that way. Almost always the original format is not in their library.

TallJustin,
When watching the update advertisement on Astro, it says it will update the list of services
*
That's the promo with the cheesy lounge music in the back ground?
There must be something else going on which I'm not aware of. It's un-related to the b.yond software update happening on the Thursday morning.

BTW non B.yond services must put the decoder into standby when they launch a new channel or do any transponder load changing (which is probably what is happening for this update to non b.yond users), These kind of updates happen dynamically on the b.yond box. Meaning that if a new channels launches on B.yond you don't need to download anything, it will just appear.

QUOTE(dxjb @ Mar 16 2010, 09:48 PM)
Also does that  mean new channels? Coz i thought would launch Astro Arena this month..
*
Ask me tech stuff I don't know much about the programming side of the business, I find out about new channels launching about the same time you will. For things like that I think you would best get the info from the facebook page?

QUOTE(dxjb @ Mar 16 2010, 09:48 PM)
N 1 more thing..
I think it would be cool if the big Astro logo on the banner when we switch channel, be changed to the logo of the channel itself..
U know the banner Im talking about right? Black background with astro logo with the current and next programme on the channel..
Change that to display the channel logo and it would look awesome..Just a suggestion..
Anyway..thanks for ur help and info as ever bro..Hope it continues! thumbup.gif

Your wish is my command

Well actually I don't have any say in that but I'm pretty sure that is going to happen in the future

TallJustin, I thought it can be done by just pressing the button at the Byond remote? also the default PIN 0000 is correct only if the user haven't changed the PIN for their Byond decoder...  biggrin.gif
*
Hi Willkso,
yes it can but using the remote doesn't set the change as a default setting for all the SD channels, it only changes the AR on that channel you are watching. Should you then surf to another channel it will switch back to the default setting.

If you have B.yond you can see this right now.

Regarding the PIN, I was thinking of listing all the variable combination and then asking you guys to select your code. wink.gif

and enable back dynamic banner switching (switch channel list on banner, but retain the watching channel).. i want to see what other channel is broadcasting before i switch channel.. now need to press < or > a lot of times
*
You can kind of do this by setting your favourite channels. then press the "ok" then press green to show channel type, select favourite and then use the <> control. Or press TV and do the same thing.

Oh & before you ask, those other listed channel types you see which are currently empty will be populated in a later release.

Now that Stretch / fit to screen option is resolved, what's left to improve SD channel? Upscaling? icon_idea.gif
*
As soon as you stretch or Fit to Screen (this Thrusday) and then make comment about wishing you had improved quality you are missing the point.

I fully respect people wanting the stretch option but please don't talk about picture quality on SD channels if you use the stretch setting as your base line is now flawed.

To get the best resolution and picture quality of 4:3 channels use pillar box.
