I'm using it to power a USB laptop cooler which in turns is used to cool the decoder laugh.gif
Confirm that USB port provides power. Fan is spinning when decoder is on.
Hopefully this can get rid of overheating issue.

And the laptop cooler's plug is one of those passthrough USB ports, can daisy chain to hard disk when DVR services start. That is, if I dun cancel the account by 1st Feb...

yeay......tomorrow we all can watch Arsenal VS Man U in HD... read this bro http://www.marketing-interactive.com/news/17545

So it's Asia-wide after all? And Malaysia will be first to get channel...

Surprising. These almost never happens. Usually it's either we wait for one year ++ or they form some second-grade in-house channel.

QUOTE(KyLe91 @ Jan 29 2010, 12:21 PM)
Only suscribe to B.Yond if you have a full hd tv. normal tv no use leh.
*
HD-Ready 1080i TV good enough. Full HD=1080p. HD-Ready=1080i/720p. B.yond only 1080i output max. You only go for Full HD if you have a PS3, 360, HTPC, Media box or a Blu-Ray player. For broadcast, the standard will be 1080i for the next few years.

May be because of the compact design.

Ya, realize, That's why I plug laptop cooling fan into USB port biggrin.gif will see how well it holds up sometime.

QUOTE(iXora.ix @ Jan 29 2010, 08:31 PM)
yeah, ans what the point for usb? ripping program? tongue.gif
and when the PVR function will be on?
*
USB Hard disk. Turns byond into PVR. Because when you record program you need to store the video somewhere. And the byond has no onboard HDD.

QUOTE(AjkR06 @ Jan 29 2010, 08:33 PM)
I'm also in the same boat with you...  biggrin.gif
really wanna Discovery HD, Wah Lai Toi HD and maybe Ria HD...
but majority vs minority... sure majority win right  notworthy.gif
*
Same here. I want Discovery HD as well. But well, as said, majority wins. Their tactic is apparently to tarik all the kaki bola first.

QUOTE(Qash-M @ Jan 29 2010, 09:00 PM)
RTM already did HDTV, Astro channel already in HD, when is Media Prima are going to join? hmm.gif
*
Media Prima a bit funny case. Dunno why they choose Chinese-Korean DMB-T digital format over European DVB-T that is already deployed by RTM. But because of their decision, existing DVB-T decoder cannot receive their test signal. Only option is to tumpang someone in China or Korea to bring back a DMB-T decoder.

Maybe they'll change their decision in the future... who knows. RTM already changed to transmitting in both systems, although their DMB-T signal only have RTM1 and 2 plus a bunch of radio channels, no Musik Aktif or any of their other DVB-T exclusive channels.

Looks like they're planning to follow South Korea. South Korea currently broadcasting in dual system as well, using ATSC mostly for house receivers and DMB-T mostly for portable/mobile entertainment.

QUOTE(cyberkoh88 @ Feb 1 2010, 10:47 AM)
just get my astro beyond last saturday. picture quality one words to describe, SUPERB. but the HDMI cable quite cheapo, can see sometimes the picture stop for a while. saw astro montly magazine advertise abt monster audio cable, that advertisement also list the bad features of current HDMI cable provided free by astro. i think need to upgrade the HDMI cable liao to see whether really got big different. anyway one things i can sure abt the SD picture quality after upgrade to astro beyond, the picture quality bcome bad. actually previously i not directy connect my astro to tv, i connect this way:
1. Astro to my dvd recorder using S video (with upscale 1080p features)
2. DVD recorder to my Denon AVR 2310 (with video upscale featres also) using HDMI
3. Denon AVR 2310 to my Sony X series LCD (HDMI)

picture quality not bad. but after upgrade to astro beyond, really bad the picture quality. anybody know why?? coz if transfer using HDMI, shd be picture quality much more nicer. i think must be the source problem???

anyway since upgrade to HD, i think i will avoid watching SD channel liao. coz i watch the liverpool vs bolton match in SD channel, really cannot acceptable liao. hope in near future, all the SD channel picture quality must upgrade lah...
1 things to mention, Dolby Digital can be transfer thru HDMI, no need coaxial cable. anyone here know what the new 10 HD channel that will be launch starting April?? Channel that display at the poll above?
*
To get HD, the b.yond must connect directly to TV by HDMI cable. From the sound of it, the b.yond is connected to DVD-Recorder via composite/component (Astro b.yond has no S-Video), and then upscaled from there. B.yond doesn't do HD through composite (impossible to do HD through composite actually) and for some stupid reason pertaining to copy protection, cannot do HD through component either. You can only get HD if you connect the b.yond by HDMI direct to TV.

Ok. Strange laa. I'm using HDMI and the SD channel PQ actually looks better than the S-Video output of the old Nokia decoder.

just tried, just the same for for SD channel for my LCD,maybe u using plasma its change alot, ofcoz plasma better than lcd watching SD channel
*
Hmmm... Check with a Starhub subscriber and see if that happens in Singapore as well. Because the HBO logo looks different in HD compared to SD (in HD it looks thinner, in SD got stretching because my TV is set to stretch SD signal to fill screen), I assume that HBO is using 16:9 in HD channel.

QUOTE(eMKs @ Feb 3 2010, 09:23 AM)
Yeah, almost everyone is like that. It's like tv power button actually sending TV1 code together with on/off code.
*
Agreed. Although on my Sharp TV, if you press the power button twice fast enough, the TV will ignore the "1" signal and switch on it's back on the last input. My TV is set to expect two number button presses before switching, or wait a few seconds after only one number is pressed before switching.

QUOTE(csng @ Feb 2 2010, 09:08 PM)
I'm not optimistic as well....but if they are able to convert some of the hot channels like Wah Lai Toi(311), AXN(701), Astro AEC(301) by the end of the year, then I'm more than satisfied rclxms.gif
*
WLT HD and AEC HD is possible (assuming Astro willing to upgrade their transmission centers with HD media players and pay more for HD HK media, since these two channels is inhouse), but AXN HD... Like ppl said before, it's only in Portugal and Japan for now, and both of them are localized channels, not available outside either countries. Unless you want AXN HD with programming dubbed in Malay. I personally don't.

I use 3 remotes... 1 For Byond, one for VCR, and one for MCE. MCE getting b.yond hardwired using RF feed from VCR. But MCE remote is used for PVR functions like rewind, pause... Really handy. Just now watching the how to build a lightsaber and deathstar show on Discovery. Can pause when I need to go toilet for cake business halfway through show. No HD, but the fact that I can hold a show when I need to go do business for a while is priceless.

im using 22'nch lcd with HDCP Compliant...but dont have any hdmi port, oni got DVI...still can use DVI to HDMI cable to connect from my beyond to my lcd rite?
*
Can try. Depending on your luck and capabilities of the LCD, it may or may not work.

HDCP aside, the main decision point here is that the LCD must support 50Hz video at 1280x720. Make sure the LCD support 1280x720@50Hz, some, especially the really cheap funny brand ones, don't support 50Hz. This is why I'm pushing for a 60Hz upsampling feature on the Byond. And set your byond box to 720p before connecting. Most non-1920x1080 PC LCD monitors don't have downsampling circuit to allow it to support 1080i.

If your 22" support 1920x1080, make sure it can support 50Hz and interlaced signal before choosing 1080i.

abt the Digital RCA tat is available in the Byond decorder, wat kind of cable should i look for and any pic of the cable?
is it only for 5.1 system?
*
It's a standard RCA cable. Basically, you need to plug this into a kit that can decode 5.1DD that has the necessary speakers setup. Just buy any standard long enough RCA cable with 2 or 3 heads and use one of the connectors.

I mean the composite video..not the audio
I plan to get the RF modulator to convert the composite video + L/R audio into the RF coaxial (that connected to my TV upstairs) so that I can view astro up there.
If the b.yond connected through HDMI to the AVR in living room, can I watch it upstairs via the b.yond's composite out (The yellow RCA) at the same time?
*
Can, I do it all the time.

For this astro byond, during bad weather can watch or not?
because astro cannot watch during bad weather so if they hvnt overcome this matter, this astro byond also useless..i rather prefer them to overcome the problem(cannot watch during bad weather) than come out with all the fancy ideas since the problems hvnt been solved for yrs..
*
This problem you need to blame them for choosing Ku Band, which is totally not suitable for tropical climate. Anyway, the problem is supposed to be minimized using 65cm dish.

Hi, I just install the astro B.yond. But I got an problem now. I would like the non HD channel to remain in 4:3 aspect ratio and the HD is 720p. I saw the guy set the normal channel to stretch and HD to 1080p. However, now I wasn't able to find this option on my remote. Anyone can tell me how to do it?
*
Press the "Home" button on remote. Then, go to "Settings" and then "Installation settings". Key in 0000 (zero, zero, zero, zero) as the code and press OK. Next, select "HD Settings" and select your SD framing to pillarbox. Press OK until exit back to main screen and you should be good to go.

Note: I'm doing this from memory because I'm at work, so I may have gotten the names wrong...

guys just want to ask, can we use byod decoder with old disc sorry if this question have been ask
*
Yes, it has been asked. The answer is same as cabling question, depends on how old the dish is. If dish is from last year, can (although you won't get the improved reception quality from the bigger dish). If dish is from Astro first launch around 1996, then cannot. Somewhere in between, maybe can maybe cannot.
