I have 2 question.
The first, the patch that Italy used suppose to be PU or Velvety type? I saw on AD in mudah http://www.mudah.my/Limited-edition-confed...tch-5416741.htm The second, I realised that there are 2 version of Man Utd, 1998-99 Champion Patch, one with Gold EPL lion and the other one is Blue EPL lion. Which one is the real one? Thanks Attached thumbnail(s) |

QUOTE(Deadman_Inc @ Mar 7 2010, 11:01 PM) I have 2 question. I'm not 100% sure about the Confederations Cup patch... I think it's lextra material. Could be wrong on this. Thanks But for the 2nd question... I've seen many times on newbies asking this question... they get confused when they see the EPL lextra Champions patches from the 1993-1994 era to the 2005-2006 era. It's because they might not have seen the real thing in life or seen how it's applied. Due to that I took some photos when I applied the Champion 1996-1997 patches on to my Man Utd GK kit few months back... The patch is actually a Lextra 3D category patch.. why 3D? This is because it has an extra woven material beneath the patch. Another example of this kind of patch using the old lextra technology is the UEFA Champions League Starball, SPL champions patches and the EPL Champions 2006-2007 and 2007-2008 patches. Nowadays, the 3D patches like the FIFA CWC patch (used by Man Utd during the UCL games this season and last season) and even the RESPECT patches used on the sleeves uses SENSCILIA technology. What is the difference between those two? Lextra is not just a technology invented by an american named Brown Adams, but is a company owned by him. The technology is on manufacturing patches using a technology that injects electric to some coloured fibers on to a plastic film. (now you know why the old EPL patches's plastic film had the Lextra logo and that 'thunder' looking like logo on the plastic film....) Then later, the fibers will stand strong and glue will be applied on top of the fiber to make it solid and hard enough and also to appy the patch later on to fabric. This technology was patented and is copyrighted to him being the inventor. According to lextra.com (Brown Adam's company), this technology was later transferred in trust to Chris Kay Ltd., in Kinsale, Ireland under an exclusive License Agreement. Chris Kay were the previous manufacturers of the EPL namesets and patches and also for some other team/league namesets and patches. Chris Kay was later bought by ITW Graphics (and is now known as SportingID). The Lextra company then agreed to transfer the Lextra License and proprietary know-how to ITW Graphics. By September, 2008 due to several breaks in trust that enabled the Lextra Company to license ITW Graphics, Lextra terminate the Lextra License at that time. Which is why SportingID now brands their product using 'Senscilia'. (more story on this: http://www.lextra.com/links.php). Anyway to be fair, credit should go to Brown Adams, the inventor of Lextra technology of producing solid robust namesets/patches. They own the patent for the technology: http://www.faqs.org/patents/app/20090239025 You guys can read the patent info from the link above and see how the technology works on producing the patches.. For Senscilia... it is a new technology introduced by ITW Graphics and will replace the Lextra technology. The differences are: 1. No plastic film on the top 2. No woven material beneath 3. Glue will be thin layer, not crystal particles (sand like) like the lextra ones.. I still prefer the lextra ones though. Example is the EPL Champions 2008/2009 patches: ![]() Anyway....... back to the question. Here is the answer: 1. This is where you start to get confused right? The EPL Champions patches looks like it has blue coloured lion on it's logo: ![]() 2. Actually the blue logo is a pattern that will become a 3D pattern. Where in that area, some fibers will still stick on the plastic film after ironed.. causing a hole left that shapes like a lion. Beneath it, there is a woven material that is gold coloured: ![]() 3. To see clearly how the hole causes the 3D effect, iron the patch on to the sleeve.. then after you've left it to cool for a while, peel off the plastic film and you can see the effect: ![]() 4. Finally your patch looks like a gold lion. What happenen to the blue lion previously? Some left on the plastic film, some were on the patch (forming an outline for the lion's 3D shape): ![]() Nows yous knows.. This post has been edited by schmeichel7: Mar 7 2010, 11:39 PM |
