now u only can update to v40 through the FOTA or the NSU... the v31 only can update through manual flashing...
u wont lose the apps as long as u not doing the hard reset...

no no no... every single firmware have it's flaws...
it's logical if u think like this... v30 try to resolve v21 bugs... v31 try to resolve v30 bugs... v40 try to resolve v31 bugs...
of course they do improve in term of performance and features like the v40 introduce the ks and new hs for the 5800xm...
then again of coz the v40 have it's own flaws which we all wish will be resolve on upcoming firmware...

for the fonts download i think u can try search through the web... for our 5800xm all "truetype fonts" are supported (correct me if i'm wrong)

nothing so special about the garmin backup lah... 2 things need to do first:

1. Copy the WHOLE GARMIN FOLDER from your phone and backup into the PC
2. Copy the Garmin .sis installer file to the PC as well, this sis normally reside at the E: root folder.

The way to restore back the garmin:

1. Copy the .sis back into E: and then install it
2. Copy the whole GARMIN FOLDER from pc to the phone and OVERWRITE it... gao dim liao

if it dont have the front camera then it wont have the 3g video call lah...
although the phone might have 3g connection and mostly for the internet and not video call...

mem card curruption are non related with firmware revision for what I knowing of...

that's the OVERALL AIR TIME the phone been use...
this counter for user it is to check how new the phone (or it's been used before) but for techinician it's use to determine the life span of the rf transceiver...

the first one actually quite easy to implement just create a folder in e:\resource\fonts and then get the fonts u like an rename accordingly (my tornado orange theme do need this to not showing those square boxes on the wording). the other method kind of new to me though and i think it needed maybe due to those oriental fonts needs specify decoding?

nope, i'm not using it as i dont have problem on chinese/eng and then the tornado theme... but i do have the 1st method for my tornado HS to proper display it's menu bar items...

yes... i succeed using that method on the tornado HS...
original tornado HS not showing me the menu items fonts and it only showing square boxes... but with some fonts provided by others after this method the tornado HS is ok already... and ppl saying any WINDOWS fonts also can be use (as long as it's true type fonts)... but i'm not sure about this so call ultimate fonts can work or not with this method because it seem the creator mention something about manual character joining method use to create the fonts...

i do advice u to try it by following below "safer" method:

1. make sure there's no c:\resource\fonts folder exist (delete it if it does, no need to worry about the backup since default fonts can get through the Z: drive)

2. create e:\resource\fonts folder and move that ultimate fonts into the folder

3. create 4 copy of that font and rename it as s60snr.ttf, s60ssb.ttf, s60tsb.ttf and S60ZDIGI.ttf

4. reboot the phone and the fonts will be use IF it's usable through this method...

5. if EVER the phone failed to restart (keep rebooting or hang during boot up), just remove the battery and remove the sd card then plugin battery and restart the phone without the sd card.

6. if no. 5 happen, after phone able to boot up without the sd card, just plugin back the sd card after phone is up and delete the e:\resource\fonts folder will remove the fonts (and the phone should back to normal).

Added on February 2, 2010, 7:32 pmi think i know what the i8910 Omnia HD gps chip... from the physical layout it seem it's the Atheros AR1511F gps chip... function wise more sensitive/accurate then nokia TI navilink 5.0...
the AR1511F performance is about the same level as the sirf Star III gps chip (but less accurate)...

because ur phone try to access those corrupted area and it will stuck....
the screen will simply shrink become a rainbow strip the reboot when the phone is crash...

this indicate u dont have the proper maps data install in your e:\cities , try to load in the maps data using the nokia maps loader will do...
of coz if u dont want that way u can just let the ovi maps download the maps data for u through ur internet connection but make sure u are using wifi...

still consider lucky loh since only the screen broken and not the whole phone...

u come into 5800xm user thread then what u think and expect the 5800xm owner will say???
