Review Time:
I ordered the following items from Elton and will be reviewing each items in its own thread: 1. Threebond Super Engine Conditioner 2. Lambda Primer 3. Revo 4. Liqui Moly MOS2 leichtlauf 10W40 (semi synthetic) ======================================================== My Car Condition: - Honda SX8, 1499 CC - 16 Years Old - 190,000+ Mileage - Never Decarbonised, Never Overhauled - Seen the insides of the engine box before and it's extremely black with sludge ======================================================== 1. Threebond Super Engine Conditioner: I parked my car in a wide open space and at least 100 meters away from any residence (just in case too much smoke and I get an angry mob). Opened up my air filter to locate the throttle body. I sprayed and wiped away all the carbon on the top side of the throttle body until its super-clean but can't really reach behind the butterfly valve (engine was too hot too to touch). So no choice, I just sprayed on the flip side and hope it can dislodge the rest. Wait 30 sec and sprayed inside the valve to finish half a can. Wait another 30 sec then turn on the engine. Then while slowly rev the engine, I keep spraying into the open valve. Sprayed too much at first and the engine wanted to die. So I stopped and sprayed intermittenly. I guess this allow the engine to burn off the foam properly without dying off. Until I almost finished the can, smoke started to appear from under the engine. Odd...but nothing come out from my exhaust pipe like what was expected but came out from engine instead. So I kept spraying the remaining and slowly the smoke from the engine also dissapears. Then I turn off engine for 3 minutes. Then when I turn the engine on, the throttle started going crazy from 1,000 - 2,000 RPM. No matter how much I rev, it still won't go off. (Still no smoke coming out from exhaust). Panic....so I drove to my workshop. We then discovered the problem was too much air going to the engine. This was caused by a modified tube which was used for a "air booster" which I unplugged years ago but left the tube aside. So all these while the intake had too much carbon builtup and it needed the extra air from the tube but after cleaning it up with Threebond, it just was too much. Throttle came back to normal after removing the modified tube and I drove off happily. When I reached home and set gear to "P", I noticed the timing is now too high at 1,500 RPM. Damn, need to go back to workshop to reset it. ======================================================== CONCLUSION: IT WORKS! The engine response is faster. It used to hesitate for about 1/2 a second to respond to my pedal last time. Then I do notice it is easier to excellerate about 20% more. I don't normally drive that agressively since I know my car can't respond that fast but this time I was happily cutting lanes and overtaking easily. Nice! ----------------- Review Lambda Primer next. |
