yeah well they spam it everywhere on their megaworks - gigaworks model, especially the one with 8" sub. the glue become corrosive and short-circuit the parts in the PCB. together with very hot amp many megaworks and gigaworks died very quickly. i now used 2x 80mm 12V fan to blow the backplate, still, when i put my finger into the subwoofer port i can still feel the warmth.

got plan to place the amp outside ? better heat dissipation ?

well. blu-tack-ed 2x 12V 80mm PC fan to the back of subwoofer. brings down alot of heat, but still a bit warm to touch even though both fan already running at full speed. (my 3 other 2.1 PC speakers only need 1fan at half speed)

Guy I totally agree with you. We should be getting what we pay for and not some cheap or non existing tweeter or spec. I don't mind low quality products, just make sure the price is also very low. SG should be black listed when they charge premium when they only give sub standard product!!!!! (its like a con job guys!)

That said I just wanted to say I purchase this Creative I-Trigue 2300 (was a display set) for just only RM100.00 the other day. I took it apart the other day just to see what was inside (before I saw this tread so sorry no picts) and was very happy that inside all four speakers were from Cambridge Soundworks. It even has serial numbers and all (sometimes u just have to love em Brits).

Sound wise, it doesn't have great bass (no woofer ma) but mids and highs are reproduce well. Sounds better than the RM100 I paid for it.

Just though I share (maybe the next time I take it apart I will post the internal picts) .

good stuffs by cambridge soundworks. i also happen to dismantle a Creative Inspire 2400 which is made by CSW. good workmanship. subwoofer cable is quite thick, even thicker than my M3300. no offense but it's true.

EDIT: just realized i think i got some busted caps over there... well it probably explains why i got blown subwoofer. either the driver voicecoil is blown or the capacitors also gone bad.

well if one of them fail sometimes they are just in parallel, so it might still works but you can hear loss of power, or even crackles etc.

i did mentioned here before that i bought a used megaworks 550 in light faulty condition, that it pops every few seconds randomly. turns out the glue have corroded and shorts few small capacitors (lucky it's the small one) in the switching power supply board. after few cleanup it works perfectly again now... (pic is in this thread)

another problem with my speaker is the iFi, which one capacitor (responsible for the dock) fails and causes system to shutdown and pops itself. after replacement it works perfectly for 3 mths, then this time it doesn't shutdown, just pops. re-cap the whole board but still pops. lol i gave up and just send to technician.

actually, don't only judge the amplifier. but also the speaker driver. one can look very small and light, but actually produce better sound than the bigger one. not to mention some other added value such as speaker cabinet tuning. logitech have quite powerful subwoofer, but it quits around 35hz, which is a shame, just because it's not tuned to achieve lower bass.

They have powerful subwoofer for Z5500 but like you said it is limited to go below 35hz. I always wanted to try logitech speaker but Z5500 is old tongue.gif ... but after I bought DA5000PRO ..then I only saw the new model from Logitech flag ship ..Z-906 5.1 ..the differences only around RM300.
Haha ok master power911  thumbup.gif

so how about the quality of the DA5000PRO's components inside the subwoofer? Just curious tongue.gif .. because I even bought Asus Xonar DX to compliment my DA5000PRO.

the logitech subwoofer i mentioned is Z Cinema. it falls very sharp after 35hz. but i haven't tested in another location. with the ifi i can get 30hz in the same room, but i got clear 25hz after trying it in another location. im gonna try my megaworks later on, see how much deeper it can go. again, not all room can provide you with that feedback so it's pretty much useless if you got deep subwoofer but a non-supporting room acoustic.

anyway, this is what i can only find on DA5000Pro. not that bad.

dont worry i rarely see anyone mention their Edifier fails. Edifier have a good quality control, so just enjoy your speakers...

yeah the thing is logitech used subsonic filter to limit subwoofer not playing below 20hz. but between 20-35hz it already cant play due to the tuning frequency is too high. beside, logitech satellites are bad. im using z-cinema (so far i think it's the only one with midrange and tweeter for its 2.1) and still not satisfied with the satellites. cant imagine if i settle with their fullrange.

yeah well the R501 sub only 30W. beside is also not tuned low enough for you to enjoy boom boom. lol i used R501 before, and if you put the bass more than default it will become muddy. so have to rely on software to bring out the bass in R501. that's why i sort of upgraded to ADA885 at the moment. the rest of my collection is in hometown. laugh.gif

My friend used to have Altec Lansing MX5021 and the bass is damm awesome..I want to achieve that with 5.1 system. Btw his MX5021 is from the old batch (later on Altec Lansing decided to reduced the quality and the bass is not as good anymore) ...

Even with the foobar2000 I still couldn't get puchy bass from R501 and I'm using the highest realtek ALC889 (Gigabyte P67A-UD4-B3) with dolby 5.1 function enabled which I don't think it is decoding in real-time ..but being processed by low quality realtek software based. So I ordered Asus Xonar DX...hope to get better sound.

As your signature says, you using ALC883..and I think you are someone who appreciate sound quality a lot ^^, but you didn't use any sophisticated sound card/receiver.

So I think upgrading to Asus Xonar DX would not bring any significant sound quality increase (end up getting new DA5000PRO along the way). I'm just itchy to try it out with my speakers with something new because I never use anything dedicated such as Asus Xonar DX as the source of sound.

yeah, i am using poor realtek now. but i don't use realtek EQ, because it's so bad it would clip and distort. the reason i dont use soundcard is because i used to own low end X-Fi 5.1 USB and X-Fi XtremeAudio but when i use it on my desktop i got alot of problem with those. so i decided to sell everything and run onboard now. the X-fi definitely sound better, but since I only plug Z-Cinema to the desktop, there is no need for soundcard as well (Z-Cinema have its own). the iFi, being my best speaker are only plugged into iPod, because it has RF remote, so i can operate it from afar without even touching the ipod.

have to agree with R501 not enough punch even with foobar2000 eq. i dont rely on foobar eq but i only used it to bring certain boom in system with poor bass. if you like MX5021, you will probably like Logitech bass. MX5021 bass is good, but when compared with other bigger system it cannot really match. you should enjoy your DA5000Pro now. when time comes you can upgrade to bigger system or even a separate system (non-PC setup). also remember, try to place ur subwoofer in another room or corner, to check if you can get better bass. so you know the real potential of your speakers.

hey all, how is it going??

i have one more 2.1 speaker from Sony to show you. it's a VAIO VGP-SP100. specification says total power 3.6W but it sounds pretty loud and clear for something that is USB powered. external power supply is also available with greater power rating. some china drivers with pretty neat PCB. what's interesting is how they design the bass reflex port.

wow, if 2W amplifiers can drive 20W speakers easily that speaker is very efficient. sure the pipe is probably tuned for certain bass frequencies. quite surprised they even bother to put it. some other USB speakers are simply sealed.

lol i saw LM386 quite often used by people who want to power their amplifier with batteries. i'd pretty much wanna built one of those too. if possible powered by usb port. these days portable usb chargers are pretty cheap and widely available.
