VGirl, did your machine come with a legit copy of Windows7? Acer does have a model that has specs similar to that you've described. It comes preinstalled with Linux but the price is RM 2099

yes..exactly..i was rather confused when noticed its a Linux based..what does it mean btw? can u and other sifus here explain more about this model?

I believe this model (Aspire 4740-431G32L) caters to budget conscious individuals who aren't planning to do any gaming. The price is cheaper because of the following reasons:

* It doesn't come with a copy of Windows. So you needn't pay for one.
* It doesn't have a discrete/seperate graphic card; uses the hardware that comes bundled with the processor.
* Has a smaller HDD .. 320GB vs 500GB
* Has only 1GB RAM. This is actually a money saving feature as you can save some money buying additional RAM from 3rd party retailers rather than getting the original one from Acer.

Any person who says 64 bit is Beta is seriously confused; pure utter rubbish. Windows 7 - 64 bit is as stable as they come. Since Vista, I have been using 64 bit of versions Windows and that's for more than a year. I can tell you that it's rock solid and is very much less prone to getting severely infected by malware. Then again, one does not need 64 bit unless they have a real need for 4 or more GB of RAM. Still .. since this is a laptop we're talking about, the more RAM you have, the better.

Anyway, I just bought my 4740-431G32L today. Had the fella top up the RAM to 4GB and paid RM2300 for it. I didn't bargain with him. So, I believe you guys should be able get a better price than I did.

Where's your area? And what type of free gifts can one expect apart from skin protectors, usb hubs and some cheapo mouse? IMHO, it's wiser to discard such gifts in favor of buying from sellers who are reliable.

pay rm50 as deposit to order from them 4740G-432G50.because the only stock they have is 4740-331G32 and 4740-431G32. they said it take 1 week.

If you're getting the pendrive and 2 years (1+1) warranty, RM 2484 sounds reasonable

But it happens whenever i use Maxis BB. Hmm... funny .

Not a windows 7 issue. It only happens with those using weak 3G broadband connections. Takes ages to load a webpage and the OS does appear to have hung. For me, this issue doesn't manifest itself when you're on a fixed line (streamyx)

If the GPU is an important criteria, then he should buy the 4740G and then attempt to recover some money by selling his existing and presumably legit copy of Windows

Added on March 19, 2010, 10:24 pmHave a question of my own. Where does one buy an extended battery for this notebook?
