i'm looking around for a ~40" LCD TV. not very particular on very pro (as in I dun think i'll do professional calibration, etc)... i'm probably a casual viewer but i still wanna have good quality video...
which comes to my point... i recently saw Samsung's LCD LA40C550 @ SenQ (seems they are the only one allowed to sell this model for now). I'm really taken in by the PQ. it's really, really nice. the last time i was shopping (or planning to get one) was about 1 year back. at that time, i was pretty sure of getting a Sharp LCD TV. honestly, i din bother with other brands since the last time i was looking around, nothing interests me... just wondering... anyone actually managed to check out both and give a fair assessment <--- since this is Toshiba topic, i hope some owners can be fair with their assessment? after reading the topic and also from other forum, i'm planning to check out this model. for me... plus point for Samsung is that i can play movies straight from my external HD. but i've yet to test this out -- i will probably bring it along to the shop when i'm ready to buy... the plus point for Toshiba is the 200Hz thingy. everywhere i read, the comment is that this feature is good for fast-action movies and sports. can anyone suggest a section of a movie or downloadable clip so i can test it on both TVs? thanks... If you want to improve its black level, try to increase Black/White level which is currently set at 0 in my calibrated settings but this might cause the Gamma track off the scale. Will try to increase this setting during my next calibration and hope still be able to track the Gamma near the standard of 2.2 |

QUOTE(ShenWoo @ Jun 10 2010, 04:29 PM) I've finally got a hold on the Digital Video Essential DVD. Only pass through brightness and sharpness though. I've actually calibrated using Movie mode for the first time but found the picture too dark before decided to use Standar Mode instead. I guess have to calibrate few rounds with different combination to see whether I could get a brighter picture My thoughts, Movie uses a WARM temperature as compared to Standard mode. Immediately apparent when checking the gray scale brightness level. Great for movies, lousy for others. One thing to mention that based on my calibration data, ZV performs very well in tracking Greyscale, RGB level, Color Temperature and Gamma. Yet to know how well its 3D CMS could help to achieve the correct luminance level of primary and secondary colors as I didn't manage to get all correct during my first calibration This post has been edited by darenlks: Jun 11 2010, 04:11 PM |

If it is a bright environment, might be better to target for 2.1 or 2. It will be brighter. Also ur gamma curve is 2.3 in the low end. If someone is viewing this in a slightly lighted environment, he might lose shadow details. I would suggest to be the other way, low end, lower gamma, high end higher gamma. Were ur results obtained from full windows? 45ft/L is quite bright, not sure what everyone is complaining about. All, I hv advised before that sharing setting might not work for all. As it is the whole chain that is being calibrated. Ur environment might be different. If u environment is bright, change the gamma to brighten. |

QUOTE(anfieldude @ Jun 11 2010, 05:26 PM) Daren, Thanks for the suggestion and might target between 2 and 2.2 for next round calibration as normally I watch under warm light environment, so not totally dimmed and not too bright. I have 3 panels sliding door and 4 panels windows further away in diagonal direction of my tv at the left side and I had covered the sliding door with curtain but only cover top half of the window panels with roller blind in the afternoon when the result was obtained. I purposedly make it brighter at 45ft/L for brighter picture because first time calibrated using Movie mode was at 35ft/L which is dark for me when watch under the environment I just described in my living roomGamma of 2.2 is more suitable for viewing in dim environment. If it is a bright environment, might be better to target for 2.1 or 2. It will be brighter. Also ur gamma curve is 2.3 in the low end. Next round I will try using Movie mode again to see the different again This post has been edited by darenlks: Jun 12 2010, 04:49 PM |

QUOTE(Str33tBoY @ Jun 12 2010, 04:45 PM) i'm in dis family starting from today... Congrats on your new tv hehe... btw... wat do i nid to get better PQ from Astro...? coz wat i see from d shop is actualli better from wat i see from my home now... HDMI Cable...? or wat...? wat i hav now is the LCD & Astro Decorder... Astro decorder dun hav HDMI port... so i nid to change new one...? or ani setting i nid to set...? nid advise... thx... Since you have not upgraded to Astro Byond, you could only connect it using Component cable (if available in your decoder) or S-Video cable to your tv. The PQ looks better in the shop because the display set has been set to Shop location setting in which it has much brighter and higher contrast picture because of the bright environment in the shop. When the tv is delivered to you, they will change the Location setting to "Home" where the brightness and contrast level is preset lower. |
