Faceless...if I no mood...whatever I play also no mood. It's true. They are no more music...but merely 'sounds'. Music is all about emotions.

I am beginning to think the zheng (or any music instruments) is the best tool to measure moodiness. No matter how you try to be in best moods it show in your playing. Either you produce music or just sounds.

I play both...but am far better with Erhu. Erhu is not easy to play. It demands lotta practise. It can be quite disheartening exspecially when you 1st start as the sound will be horrible.

If you practise daily for 20-30 minutes...you should be able to play simple tunes in less than a month.

Where are you located?

Faceless...they hired a cheapo unplugged Band. Client said "cheaper by a lot wo!".hehehe... Well...they get what they pay for. This kinda typical unplugged bands are the usual boring bands that play sleepy songs.

If you cant sleep..go hear them. You will sure sleep then.

Why you wanna remove the snake skin??

Darielle..regardless of your current musicla ability...you are still welcome to join our small community of chinese instrument lovers.

We let those less mature kids rave about how cool their electric guitars are in other threads. Guitars are soooo common...no one will be surprised when they see one.

However....Erhu and GZ are 2 totally different animals. They are far less common. They are seldom seen in public compared to the over rated and boring guitar.

That was one of the reasons why I created Shanghai Angels Band. I saw that Malaysia welcomes things that are not of the norm more than the norm.

I can show you some Erhu basics la. I am nowhere at all near those world class erhu players from CHina...but I am good enough to play some popular tunes without looking at any score.

I was trained intensively in Classical Piano during my schooldays. I was supposed to further my quest to be a Professional Classical Pianist after form 5....but lack of finance put a damper to that. It's not cheap to study music in Boston!

Faceless and Subangman know the gist of my background. I was never into traidtional Chinese instruments...until in 2007...MCA asked me to get a group to perform for MCA's CNY Open House in Dewan MCA. (Fyi...I HATE MCA!! Malaysia'c cakap association! Talk saja pandai...!..lain takda guna!)

That make shift BAND comprise of 1Erhu Player, 1 Violinist and 2 Keyboardists. I was one of the keyboardists.

After that performance....many people shook our hands and said they enjoyed it.

We were really surprised...and after I got home that night...I started to like chinese instruments. I roped in 3 lang lui's who can play Dizi, Erhu, GZ with me. That was how Shanghai Angels was birthed.

Playing the Morrin Khuur is hard on the left fingers. Unliek Cello where you place your ifingers on TOP of the string....you have to use the delicate and weak part just above the nails!

Torture! Very painful to play.

Darielle..I am no Master...but I do have the ability to learn musical instruments faster than a lotta people.

It's not easy learning so many instruments...butit's fun if you have fun learning it from people who are generous with their advice.
