Hi there, I'm just wondering.. What are the chances of obtaining a part-time job in Melbourne? CBD area I suppose, is it really that hard? @_@
*
depends what kind of job you looking for

QUOTE(apsidewatch @ Aug 13 2011, 05:56 PM)
note that now im only looking for 2 places, University of Queensland and University of Melbourne.

im thinking of majoring in accounting. study-wise i've informed that University of Melbourne will be the best choice, but im looking more than that. to inform u, i'll be studying under scholarship and provided with 1200AUD/month for Melbourne, sydney and brisbane and a lower allowance for other cities.

so the cost of living in brisbane is lower than in Melbourne, which is good. but some said it is kinda kampung, well is it? so comparatively KL as to Melbourne, than what is brisbane? and can some1 tell me on average how much AUD it differs living in Melbourne and Brisbane?

and im really concern about the weather, afraid that i couldnt get used to melbourne's, since im kinda thin and i have history of asthma attack when i was a kid. havent used my inhaler for a long time, but yeah who knows it will come? but brisbane are said to be hot,wet summers and dry, cold winters from here, which is similar to malaysia. i want to exp the most for all 4 seasons, which is available at melbourne i guess..

last but not least, Melbourne has too many malays population is it? how often do u see one if u walk around? im afraid that if im in melbourne it will be like " huh, not so overseas am I?" wink.gif .

any other points that i should look at? hope all of u can guide me to make the best choice. cool.gif
*
malay? chinese and indian nearly covered the whole melbourne(my opinion)...so what makes you think there is too many malays in melbourne?

idk, sorry for that mistakes. thats what i've heard.. so there's not much of malays there?

guys, this is only what i've been told. some may be true n some may not.. so i need ur help to tell me which is which. icon_question.gif
*
it really depends which area you gonna stay..i believe there will be more malay students in university of melbourne but i don't see much in the city. i might be wrong though...

but 1 thing for sure is that no matter who you are (chinese, indian, malay, etc) from malaysia, australian local still think that you are malay from malaysia...

oh really? *jot some notes* . how's their prespective towards malaysians? arent they being racist towards foreigners?
what kind of allergies? care to tell me more?

my heart is shouting for melbourne but i dont know if it is because that i only hear a 1 sided story by those who live there, havent heard much on brisbane..
*
i'm not saying they racist(by the way, racist is anywhere). just most of them don't know about our culture/race.
if you are chinese that came from malaysia then they will assume you are malay with chinese background. i worked with australian chinese before and they assumed me as malay with chinese background rather than chinese with chinese background from malaysia..

but not really a big matter...

How about BPAY?
*
don't think they will accept bpay but you can have a look at their website

QUOTE(zhenzelibaby @ Sep 10 2011, 01:09 PM)
really? How is that done? Is it safe?
*
just go to their website and order from there. the most popular promotion is 2/3months free access.
also, ask for more deal(usually they give you $25/$50 credit) by calling them.

my girlfriend got BB9780 from vodafone and get 3 months fee waived + $25 credit on her account.

i think its probably easier to just drop by at any vodafone/optus shop to get it.
thats what i did.
just brought my bank statement, ecoe and passport and got it in less than 15mins. no hassle.
*
but it would be easier from website. no need to bring documents along and "easier" to pass 100 points.
i cant apply from store because im holding bridging visa but i pass from online.

if you staying around CBD area then vodafone will serve you well. i'm with optus before and i don't get 3g connection in my apartment. then i changed to vodafone and i get 3g connection.

it really depends which are are you on and where do you go frequently. if u living suburb then telstra is a good choice but the price is not cheap(you pay what you get)

i worked with telstra before and it is a best choice for working people because they want reception everywhere..

Try Vodafone Infinite Plan for $45 ...

infinite call (only in Australia )
infinite sms (Within and OUTSIDE Australia )
500MB of Internet data
Unlimited access to social networking sites.

pretty good deal.
*
it's a good deal if you make many local calls but i still prefer cap plan because of international call(even though i have skype)

Okay, so no need the student ID right? I can just pop into the shop with my ecoe and my bank statement. that's really easy, planning to use Virgin mobile - is it good?
*
really depends which telco you want to go.
they need your id to pass 100points

basically they prefer passport, valid visa with at least 2 years(unless you go for 1 year plan), bank card and maybe oversea driving license(telstra accept it)

but i only provided passport, utility bill, medibank and bank card for vodafone via online

so too many malaysians in australia = education will be the same as malaysia? laugh.gif

dude..LOL r u serious?

Well" i seen an aussie carried it thru cargo check in via brisbane. I think it was carry out from Aus to Somwhere else. Its cheaper here anyway in Malaysia; after conversion.

For the cost & logistic; might as well sell it off there. icon_rolleyes.gif

ya just asking anyway.. laugh.gif

QUOTE(apsidewatch @ Oct 22 2011, 09:56 PM)
guys, im thinking to opt for Malaysian Hall Melbourne for a while, until i find a house to rent with my friends over there. need your help in choosing which form to go..

http://www.msda.org.au/index.php?p=1_5

there is Permohonan Residen Tetap DM and Permohonan Penginapan Untuk Pelajar -DMP1.. if i want to stay like a month at least, which form should i choose?

and 1 more thing, what can you do with an allowance of 1200AUD/month ? i know its more than enough but how many will i have left after paying for rent, utilities, food and transportation? more on an estimate...

last question, is it worth it for me to buy a desktop in malaysia and ship it over there? well i've been informed that IT stuff can be expensive in australia.
*
$1200 is just enough for me including accommodation around CBD.

if u still have many spaces in your luggage, you can try put all the hardware(without casing) in your bag then buy the casing from here..

i staying in Melbourne CBD and the rental for 1 bedroom cost me $1470. i'm sharing with my partner so the rental will be divided by 2.

i can survived with $1.2k per month when i was student but when i start working now, i spent more than $1.5k every month mainly because of lazy to cook and no need to think twice about money when buying stuff.

really respect how you guys are able to spend so little!
do you actually eat the correct amount of meals a day!

im always trying but i never seem to manage my money well.
and im expecting my expenses to go up much higher after i get a car at the end of the month.  cry.gif
*
$1.2k per month is enough for me when i was student

enough for me staying in melbourne cbd (around $730pm),utility bills, other expenses and proper meal...

my rent alone is $880 which doesnt include meals.

if you spend around 15-20 bucks a day that will definitely exceed 1200 :/
by 15-20 bucks, i mean 6-7 bucks for train during peak hour and 2 meals at least?
a decent meal would cost around 7 bucks at least.
and if you wanted to eat something more decent you'll have to pay more no?

not including all your other entertainment and things like that also!

unless you're trying to say a student life should be eating instant noodles and really really cheap food everyday, i dont see how thats not low!
*
with that kind of spending, of course 1.2k is very low..

but most of the students cook from home and thats why 1.2k is enough

but every person has different spending like you who need to pay $880 for rent while I only pay $730 inside CBD with walking distance to my workplace(don't need public transport)

So I'm currently on a Bridging Visa A and just applied for a Bridging Visa B to go overseas.
Good news is it was approved. My question is do I need to have a Visa label in my passport to show my status or do they have it stored electronically?
Coz I sent my application through mail and I got my reply via e-mail.
Thanks!
*
Since they already approved then you shouldn't be worry. but you can ring immigration first and see what they said

I did mine previously in the office and got the label(valid for 3 months). gonna do it again for next chinese new year
