@SGT76,nice screen shots from you. They're informative.

QUOTE(raymond5105 @ Dec 23 2010, 10:24 AM) @SGT76,nice screen shots from you. They're informative. Thanks bro. Learned a lot from Lowyat from reading all the posts, now I'm just giving back by sharing some info. Getting this to a stable 4ghz for practical 24/7 usage was the most challenging project I've ever undertaken- had to add heatsinks on all the mosfets, modify the custom mount a bit more, tweak the volts, remove unneccesary hardware (4ghz prescott is a power hog- Tagan 480w is almost not enough for it!!!), bios tweaks, carefully route all cables and wires and ensure optimum airflow. I see great passion there
4Ghz 24/7 is not possible, just needs good air flow with good cooling for CPU as the heat and excessive voltage will kill the CPU slowly. Just a matter of how long it will take |

Bro shinjite, a great honour coming from you.
BTW- 4ghz 24/7 is not impossible you mean? My voltage is only 1.3875v, load temps now are 70c max- less than stock clocks using the stock cooler. I have tracked thermal throttling using throttle watch and tweaked till I found zero evidence of this happening. Maybe the processor will deteriorate, but if we are measuring this in terms of years, I'm ok with that. This post has been edited by SGT76: Dec 24 2010, 09:30 AM |

Yeah 4Ghz is not impossible, accidentally typed possible instead, my bad and thanks for correcting me. If not, it lead to misunderstandings
The processor will deteriorate but it won't really bug you since you have more than sufficient cooling for it. Although the Prescott can withstand higher heat, best to go <65c full load This post has been edited by shinjite: Dec 24 2010, 03:41 PM |

i left this place for 2 months and returned to find out that S478 is not dead, but now going OverCLOCKING 4 Ghz?
respect, lol my idle load temperature already 60-65C so overclockng is just out of question... |

I was surprised too at the power usage. This PSU has served me well in the past on my old Athlon 7750BE system (overclocked 3.16Ghz) with 8800GT, 3 hard disks, 1 DVD burner + 2 120cm fans. But it's marginal for this system. I have stripped this rig down to the basics- 1 hd, 1 cd/ dvd drive, 3 120cm fans, 6800GS card, SB Live! sound card. my system is pentium4 3.0E Ghz, currently my best o/c is 3.6Ghz only (15x240Mhz) on AI7 mobo with 2 GB Gskill PC4000.want to go to 4Ghz, i think maybe it is my psu limiting me to go further.my psu is rated true power at 450W, must be my GC taking drawing alot of power, it's a HD4650.What you guys think?

QUOTE(raymond5105 @ Jan 9 2011, 09:34 AM) 6800GS is not going to consume as much power as 6800GT as i know. Processor could draw up to 120W which is slightly more than the rated TDP value when over in high frequency. yeah i know that. last time my pwm temp can shoot up to 90 deg cels bcoz no proper exhaust fans but now my pwm temp reads around 53~58 lor.i did slap some mosfet heatsink onto it and improve the exhaust fans by using 80mm panaflo fans.as for my proc temp is around 52-56deg cels.so i dun think it is my proc temp either.im using CM hyper6 for the HSF.i did noticed the vcore fluctuate a lot. (between 1.36~1.39).What is your temp of proc. and mobo ? AI7 mosfet area is hot when in operating mode. |
