i just looking for cheap 2nd hand gpu only
not really meant to play those new games because i dont think P4 can support it.
how i can know if my memory controller is a 128bits model?
*
You can check from the display card memory shape. If you see and L-shape(4 chips) on your card,it's a 128bits memory interface. If 2 chips arrange parallel on your card, then it's a 64bits version.

I am doubt as the performance of SSD wil be somehow bottleneck by SATA1 controller. But it will still be impressive if the disc transfer rate can achieve at 120MB/s & above. Just wandering with SSD performance on old school SATA 1.

Anyone know the best value-for-money PCIe GPU that can put into P4 3.0GHz mobo?
*
PCI-E GPU has a lot varient nowadays. You can get any PCI-E GPU to slot in on your mobo.
You may want to try with HD3xxx series to slot in your mobo perhaps?
A note to you, your CPU will be bottlenecking the HD3xxx in performance.

the max you can get around CPU bottlenecks would be GT240 or GT440, IMHO. GT220 is also powderful giler already for P4 CPU  flex.gif
*
Agree with edmin,GT220 is hard to handle by CPU already. Between what's the price for GT240 and GT440?

blink.gif with 6670 in PCI-E? The card will be in serious bottleneck with P4 processor. Not really recommended.

wow..windows 8 on socket 478pin??? myself spare system using p4 prescott o/c to 3.75Ghz running on win7 also quite struggling. can feel during entering windows, slow like snail when loading stuff.
*
I am with my Win7 now. Win 7 is a little bit demanding in procerssing but it is sufficient for me to surf net and do some light gaming. Recently just install back olden day game -C&C Zero Hours. rclxms.gif Cum, my rig can handle it nicely in Win 7.

it can handle win7 quite nicely granted after booted into the windows lar.it just the initial booting process especially if u also have some startup programs to go with it when entering windows say antivirus...and I even opt to disable the memory pagefile (the virtual memory) to speed up my system...hahaha, but unfortunately still slow like snail lor.

myself using HD4650....very cun on watching hd video just too bad can't play hd sound only...
*
How much of RAM you are having with your P4? Disable virtual memory does help to boost the ssytem a bit. I am doing that on my system too.

QUOTE(overclockalbert @ Oct 31 2012, 05:58 PM)
My Abit IC7 Vanilla + Pentium 4 3.0Ghz Prescott still serve me well. It's running on winXP SP2 with lot's of old school games on it.

The only thing that went wrong with this P4 rig is the CM high power PSU.
*
@Overclockalbert, i thought you have sold off your IC7 long time ago? hmm.gif Which CM PSU are you with? Do you o/c your prescott?

my ram 2 x 1gb Gskill pc4000. unfortunately couldn't get myself a 2 x 2gb Gskill pc4000. it would've been a blast running win7 with few other programs in the background.myself also using CM PSU also...guess what 750W PSU true power......lolz...massive overkill for that system brows.gif ....even got crossfire ready.. rclxm9.gif
*
I have just replaced my PSU recently too. Old Acbel i-power was having serious voltage instabality cause my system cannot run well in o/c condition. 12V and 3.3V drops seriously while loading.
Yeah, your CM750W psu is capable to handle SLI and Croesfire. thumbup.gif

Not sure if this thread still alive or not after seeing one post in 3 years. Anyways, here are my custom system which purchased on 2002/03, can't remember the exact timeframe.

CPU: P4 Northwood 1.8GHz with stock cooler
Mobo: MSI PM8M-V
RAM: 1GB DDR1 (512MBx2)
GPU: ATI Radeon 9250 AGP 4x/8x
PSU: Standard 300W

Planning to sell off cheap as well. I'll post at Garage Sales soon together with my other separate old PC components. If anyone interested can look there. Thanks.

Hi there, this thread could be use for info sharing. Thread is still alive but I guess there are very few P4 users around as most of them shifted to another platforms.
Is your rig still running now?

RAM is not enough for your system. You can see difference with a 3GB RAM setup. thumbup.gif
