Getting Started

|
I went there today and I must say i am super impressed, keep it up Nikon Malaysia on your new Nikon Store at Berjaya Times Square Level 1 (facing Jalan Imbi & entrance of BTS). So many yummy things to play with like 500mm f/4, 400mm f/2.8, 300mm f2.8 and the new 80-200mm f/2.8 VR II, mounted on D3, D300s and D700. They even put a mini diaorama in the center for you to play with the D3000 & 5k as well as some PnS cams. BTS is sure nearer my home compared to PJ old town and this place is a lot more conducive (and seductively poisonous as well). it was just a FUIYOH experience for me. anybody go, and had the same experience? It's just a center for u to try and test product. The mini diaorama is convenient for you to test the camera quality. I believe not enough staff there, normally people go in bunch to try their product. Some serious to know more, some to play play only. But i have to say the staff there not well equipped hehe, the uncle who serve me told me d5000 running cmos sensor. I wanted to correct him but haiz...

I was there too few weeks before Christmas. Tried out the D700 to my heart's content. Love the telephoto lenses attached on it too. No chance to try out the D3-series they had there though. Too many people.

Canon Singapore doesn't even display 5D2 and 1D/1Ds bodies on the shelves; they say one needs to make an appointment to test out the "pro" bodies.

Canon Singapore doesn't even display 5D2 and 1D/1Ds bodies on the shelves; they say one needs to make an appointment to test out the "pro" bodies. Yes they do! I'm pretty sure the body I was trying out was the D700 because I have been wanting to try out this body. The rest should be D3 because their large and thick bodies can't be mistaken. The bodies are mounted on steel columns with a lot of metal fixture around it to prevent lens removal, etc. So you can only pan left right and not up down. And you'll cry seeing the general public touching them and then 'accelerating' their shutter speed capabilities. One boy (about 15 years and seems to know a lot about camera) was like frapping like no ones business. I remembered one moment when he was holding the shutter button frapping for close to a minute. Damn... D700 is fast. Same goes to the rest. Everyone was like enjoying the sound it makes. I think Canon Singapore is doing their products a disservice. These things are meant to be displayed and tested. Maybe they have another type of audience to satisfy.

I have heard only good things about this place in terms of the service. Would want to try to send my cameras there for a service checkup soon

Maybe they have another type of audience to satisfy. somehow I disagree on this. The 5D2 and 1-bodies are meant for experienced photographers and it should be kept out of reach for average joes. They know most people can't affored to own one so it is wise not to put these models on display and let the public abuse it. Say Nikon D700 and D3 on display... how many would buy any after firing thousands of shutter counts? 1 out of 10,000? Sooner or later Nikon Center gonna put D3 and D700 in cabinets , testing is by request only.

Maybe it is a good opportunity to show some 'fire power' to average consumers during their launching. Soon we shall see if this will happen.

I think normal user won’t fire those like machine guns. Some half-poisoned users might fired them then get more poison... time will tell.
