Hope to hear some subwoofer reviews from owners about Rythmik vs SVS, especially FV15HP vs PB12-NSD/PB12-Plus
*
IMHO, the FV15HP and the PB12Plus are in the same league and u cannot go wrong with either.

I think if its the outgoing PB-12 NSD or the newer PB12 NSD (new sledge AMPs) are better to be pitted against the smaller FV12 that will be closer to each other.

I'm new to subwoofer, does the quantity of ports matter? some subwoofers come with 2 ports while some subwoofers come with 3 ports
*
No, the different manufacturers use it to provide tuning options.

Oh? Look at ronaldjoe's signature - WTS Klipsch RS-42 Surround Speaker, SVS SB13+, Paradigm Sub25

Ehhh.. any other nice looking musical subs you'd recommend?
*
Shuto,

While I do not think it will be as powerful as the Sub25, how about the Rythmik D15SE?

Thanks Anfieldude  thumbup.gif - good idea. Forgot about that. Would anyone know how it might sound compared to the other 15" subs in the Rythmik line?
*
Its a downfiring sub. Its shd be similar to the F15 sound but might yield some increase in SPL if the floor is concrete and coupled with a corner loaded as its firing essentially into a true corner boundary. However, I am not too sure if the increase is significant.

There's the JL F113 or SVS SB13+
*
Also not to be ruled out would be the upcoming SVS SB16 and JL Audios very own Gotham! And the Seatons with the newer finishes.

It's gonna change my acquisition decision in coming months.

Kc.. Why so long wait? Just read about the specs from internet.. Us$2k for twin 15in sub is indeed a good price. Wonder why hasn't anyone brought them in?

Seaton is a true ID company. The group buy in Australia was a massie order, so he needed to prepare the large order. He also fitted them with refurbished 1000W amps that US owners upgraded to 2400W amps.

ronnt has the submersive and its a fine performer.

There is a sale on older submersives now, u can contact them for more info.

I saw this excellent chart that shows the various instruments and their frequency ranges. This helps to re-iterate why music does not have much below 20Hz. But movies are mixed differently and there is a lot of effects that have content down low. I initially saw this in the AVS Forum, the link takes u to the original source.

There is a unit in Malaysia now going for approx RM28K.  drool.gif

If u see their FR chart, it does not match what they are saying -3dB at 12Hz....

Haven't any owners posted an in room FR in the AVS threads?

But no doubt an in room FR will show much deeper extension compared to an outside ground plane measurement.
*
Yeah, that's what Imeant, weird that they claim 12Hz but do not show it.

You're welcome. Actually some sub owners have reported this issue in AVS and very frequently by turning off Audyssey it solves the problem.

I believe it's because Audyssey can apply a lot of boost in the lower octaves (like maybe below 20-30Hz) and this can in some cases overdrive your subs. I believe with careful positioning and taking advantage of room gain, you can overcome this and have Audyssey on without causing your sub to bottom out.
*
I've seen this numerous times. I find it more of a problem with sealed subs due to Audyssey not getting the -3dB point of the sub accurately and trying to boost in the low frequency.

I hv seen +9dB boost at 10Hz using the F15s. Can u imagine the amount of power required to drive that if the signal is 105dB or more! Also the F15s do not hv limiter circuits, so I hv triggered protection (DC) on the F15s before. Now that the circuit is modified, the amps do just fine. Even subs with limiters can hv problems.

Its either an overexcursion of the driver, or high current that triggers.

Ok, tested a few more scenes and list is below:

Flight of the Phoenix - plane barrel roll - 111dB
Hurt Locker - opening explosion - 110dB
Tron Legacy - 24m, collector landing - 107dB
Incredible Hulk - sonic cannons - 107dB
War of the Worlds - pods emerging - 108dB
War of the Worlds - death rays - 109dB
War of the Worlds - bridge explosion - 108dB
Hot Fuzz - 1:53, police station exploding - 108dB

Volume at -8dB on AVR. Using C weight and fast on SPL meter with peak hold on.
*
I tried the same with the vol at -8dB on the AVR, C weight and fast on SPL meter.

FotP plane barrel roll - 112.3dB (max)

Not bad for 2 sealed subs in a semi open environment!

No audible distortions from any of the speakers....felt like the walls were crumbling from the effects that were reproduced quite well! Still - this is an insane scene.

nothing unhappy  smile.gif  just that I'm now addicted to LFE as soon as I tried the FV15HP  brows.gif , I will upgrading to higher end subwoofer  brows.gif HT is a never ending upgrading road
*
Cool...way to go...Just understand that higher end or not, u need to understand the differences between sealed/ported...

FV15HP, PB13U are extremely good ported subs in my opinion for the price, they are really hard to beat. Multiples of sealed subs are the ones that can come close, but in terms of sheer power, these 2 are hard to beat...

Google on subwoofer vertical mode. There's a guy discussed this in forum where sound improvement gain by choosing the correct height from his concrete floor, I think about one feet. Subdude too low to achieve that.
*
It acts as a riser...but I'm not really sure how it changes the waveforms as the wavelength of the bass is still the same. Standing waves will still remain, but I believe it improves decoupling or adds some boundary to the reflection off the floor. I need check the physics behind adding a riser to a waveform.

Yup bro...I'm using the F12. Perhaps when u receive yours, u should try with and without the foam.

That way u can see if it's just some snake oil or it really works. It's higher than the Subdude but not as solid.

I don't have the subdude, maybe u can check with others here for the price.

I couldn't get myself to pay a couple of hundred for a wooden plank with foam on it...hehe
*
U could use rubber studs that u can pick up from the hardware shop. The idea is to isolate/decouple the sub from floor so that the energy is not transfered directly to the floor.
