Dnt use Hoya lenses, i ve just damaged my left eye after was recommended by the optical shop. It was a low quality lenses n expensive too. Maybe the shop has potong my neck also. Thou they ve changes the left lense for me n i do noticed tat the color of both lense are now diff - one re blue another re pruple. Now i ve to spend more few hundreds ringgit at eye specialist n cld not diagnosed my eye problem.

This is an interesting thread.
I am in the market for a new pair of specs and being the hardy careless types, i usually would not spend more than rm 450 over a pair of glasses. My power is -7.00 in both eyes. My last cost of glasses were RM420 for the frames and lens. I think my lest cost me abt rm250, high index multi coated glass lens. index 1.67. prefer glasses cos hard to scratch and cheaper. that was more than a year ago. Today, I walked in to an optical store and had a big shock. was quoted rm990 for normal essilor lens (glass) and rm440 for normal essilor plastic. The hoya lens were also in that regions. I was told glass more expensice now. WTF!!?? Can anyone advise me if pricing for prescription lenses have gone up? or what is the normal price these days? Thanks in advance! |

QUOTE(sudha @ Sep 5 2012, 01:54 PM) This is an interesting thread. I just got apair of hoya multi coated/focus lens earlier these year for rm420 (w/o multi coat rm280) after it was recommended by the optical shop. To my dismay the len seem to be off low quality n scratches easily. Two years ago, when i use soho transition lenses (rm500) are more resistance to scratch. Yes, in these day glass len prices are shooting up ridiculously. Thou it sld ve been suppose cheaper thn a plastic len. Maybe it was just a marketing gimmicks. Last time the optical shop do told me plastic len are more expensive n now vice verses. Try to shop at the older optical shop, you may get a much reasonable quote. Within your eyes power, you don't need to ve a prescriptions lenses. Don't get cheated, there are lots of fake lenses at the market in these days too. Btw, why don't you use the ordinary lenses only? It cost around rm70-80 per pair? If get stretched, you can change it anyway.I am in the market for a new pair of specs and being the hardy careless types, i usually would not spend more than rm 450 over a pair of glasses. guys,
fyi, i just bought carl zeiss lens (photofusion). BUT there is not warranty card. When i ask for the warranty card, she just says that she can check from the system. Bought it at Focus Point, Terminal 1 Seremban. I am thinking to go there and ask again for the warranty card. If she still insist to give me the warranty card, i will report to "TRIBUNAL PENGGUNA". To those who using Carl ZeissPhotofusion lens, can you please provide me what should i get instead warranty card? Thanks. This post has been edited by xphr3ak: Oct 3 2012, 03:39 PM |

I just change my lens to photochromic lens, my power is -5.50 left and -5.25 right. It cost me about RM 60.00 (change lens only) in Kuching. It feels good, change to black in seconds and change back to clear in seconds when go inside house. I just wonder if cheaper lens has side effect to our eyes?

I'm using hoya transition lenses. Got it from one of my friend who is also an optometrist. I paid rm250 for the hoya transition lenses (which he claims change colour faster compared to cap ayam brand) and rm200 for lee cooper plastic frame with wood texture. quite cheap if you ask me. no scratches at all. using it for 9 months already. dropped it here and there. it flew in the snow (i was wearing them all the time during winter in germany)
