Just pick up 1 set for my gf, although it doesn't have any gimmick compare to other model/brand. But the color is very vibrant, no ghosting so far (not fully test it), black color reproduction is ok. Since we pickup the whole lot (40s550+Z590K+S360) for only RM4998-RM950-RM100=RM3948 so no complaint here.

The up-scaling feature of the Sony S360 Bluray player is surprisingly very good cause i can watch NORMAL DVD close to HD content. Worth every penny.

If compared to Plasma same price, the Sony S series..Sucks...but thats for me.
Wanna buy Sony...V series minimum entry level...W and Z seems much better.
Thats based on my personal preference.

If you wanna use this for Astro, TV and movies...better go Plasma.

At SenQ (1 Borneo Branch, Sabah). But i think u can ask ur local SenQ electronic's staff to call u if there is such promotion. Sure got a lot of them going on during this holiday season (usually promotion will only shows up during weekend from friday to sunday when they setup roadshow outside their branch).

Yeah, same sentiments. Sony's products are good, barring the price. But the 'S' series is not really a Sony, the series is just created to fight on pricing, for those who wants a Sony but cannot afford the real thing. Pretty much like the Honda's City, Toyota's Vios, Porche's Cayman, BMW's 3 series, etc....

Yes, I will steer clear of Sony 'S'. For that price, better look at other brands that are more fully equipped.

32" and 37" S series sucks big time.

However, the 40" S series uses EXACTLY the same panel and processor as the V series.
The only difference between 40" S series (KLV-40S550A) and 40" V series (KLV-40V550A) is the supplied stand (V can swivel while S cannot), and 24p/theatre mode.

Before purchase the S series, did check out the V series and W series (100Hz) at SenQ outlet. When playback the movie "closing" credit session, no obvious different between S & V series (image not very smooth for both model, no sure whether if they enable 24P for the v series). But the different is noticeable when compare to W series (smooth sailing credit to the 100Hz features).

W series has the Motionflow 100Hz of course will be smoother.
However up until today i do not understand the 24p features. Manufacturer says 24p make the film exactly the same frame rate as what you watch in cinema, but i swear cinema movies is never that jaggy.

Furthermore, they then introduce the frame interpolation (aka 100Hz/200Hz) to smooth up the 24p films. So why 24p at the first place?

For Sony LCD TV, better get W Series and above.

Me too also confuse. But i guess it is something to do with the movie itself (which already encoded using 24P) will be more smooth when display on the LCD TV (even 50Hz) which support 24P decoding. But however, if the movie itself is not encoded using 24P, you will need to buy 100Hz/200Hz LCD TV to get the same effect.

Correct me if i am wrong.

24p simply means the TV can display at 24 progressive frames per second (same as the film rolling rate in cinema). HDTV commonly accepts 50p/60p and better ones accept 24p.

I've seen a true 24p Blu-ray demo disc connected to a 24p TV and i just cant bear the low frame rate jagginess. 24p does not smooth up the video at all.

ya saw this from newspaper . that's y thought of buying 1 if it's good.

unless the 24p is really a necessary features to you, otherwise, i cant see why people should spend another RM500 for V series.
Especially now with this promotion, grabbing together with the S360 blu-ray player wil entitle you for RM950 cash back, its really a good deal.

All together only cost ~RM4.5k for the LCD+HT+Bluray

bear in mind the 40" S550 cost RM4499 just a month ago.

I am confused by all your comments...in the Star Ads...it says the price = RM3999 for
LCD KLV-40S550A + FREE - DVD Home Theatre System - DAV-DZ590K ...and on top of that
you can get cash rebate of RM450 so only RM3549 right ??

Exactly, if wanna watch Bluray...get something better than the Sony S series...get the Panny Plasma 42S10, If I'm not mistaken, Panny also having offer now.

never liked plasma's huge pixels and glossy screen. Its up to personal preferences though

why would you want to watch 24P on TV? the point is to accept 24P (from BDs) and do 3:3 pull-down to 72Hz.. (something that the Kuros do well)

rather than 24P source do 3:2 pull-down on normal TVs..

also it's Stutter (time element) not jagginess... (that's reserved for pixel,)

my real confusion is that, while 24p supposed to make movies look cinematic, i get more of the "stutter" (low frame rate) feeling rather than cinema feeling. i swear i don't realize that much of "stutter" while watching movies in cinema.

anyway, you should check out Public enemies, shot on digital (michael mann production)... see if you like that kind of stutterless feel (I didn;t, looks like a Camcorder movie.. )

Sharp/LG/Samsung all has better offering than sony in <RM2k range. However, if you can find the older generation of the 32s (model: KLV-32S400A), then go for that. I've seen it going as low as RM1399 and trust me, that old model PQ performs far more better than the new 32s550, and has much more features that sony left out in the new model.

there's only LED vs CCFL backlight LCD. Technically LED or not, they are still LCD.
The only advantage LED backlight can bring is local dimming (ie dim a part of screen when that part is displaying dark content to improve contrast ratio), and the so called "slim" LED TV is missing the local dimming ability and hence "slim" LED TV is technically the same as CCFL LCD TV.

new S550 or the old S400?
those who grabbed S400 during its end of life cycle promotion is really lucky as those remain as my favourite low end LCD till today.

Look closely and you'll find that the new 32" and 37" S550 has following issue when compared to old S400:
1) only 2x HDMI
2) missing S-video
3) poor viewing angle
4) poor video processing
5) missing ambient light sensor
6) missing swivel stand
7) much lighter than predecessor
8) missing 24p ability
9) missing theatre mode
10) missing S-Froce front surround sound processor/speaker
11) missing headphone out
12) missing bravia sync

the list goes on and on about what sony cut out of this new model. This new S550 is actually marketed as L series overseas as a really basic, cheap entry model (much like the T series here). Our V series here is S series overseas and so on. Welcome to Malaysia

All I am saying is there was a time when buying a Sony is as safe a decision as you can get. Personally, I am not too confident about that now so look around a bit more, for similiar pricing and spec, are there better alternatives? Happy Shopping

Testing out Sony 40S550
PROS
1) PS3 gaming excellent
2) Color bright & vibrant
3) Black level acceptable
4) Noise reduction

CONS
1) Viewing angle only +-45 degree, any more will result in loss of contrast level
2) 50Hz only, so motion blur do occur

sold out, didnt manage to get one

i managed to get the tv ... its pretty good if i say so myself. using it mainly for PS3 and also stream content from my PC to the PS3 to the TV.

streamed a 1080p movie from pc ... seems alrite too

dont have anything to complain at the moment.

Carrefour subang got 2 units last week after cash back at rm2750, went there next day, finish liao...unless u can still find it in carrefour, grab it.... new models coming out and they are phasing out the S series. think now they have is 32 inch at carrefour. i miss the S series sales and ended up wtih V series.
