Wonder anyone here do purchase extended warranty for their new invested Plasma/LCD/LED TV?

Could anyone explained what do SONY 2 years warranty actually meant?? I got mix response from
salesman,

* 2 Year warranty for part and labor
* 1 Year warranty for the LCD panel only (why only 1 year even i extend to 5 Years)

this basically means :

1) They tested the other parts on the tv and they should last at least 2 yrs hence the 2 yrs warranty
2) They've tested the LCD panels and should last at least 1 yr hence the 1 yr warranty

Samsung offer 2 years for part and labor and even for its LCD panel, while Panasonic offer 3 years warranty on its LCD TV range (correct if i am wrong)

What if
1) the back-light of the LCD TV got spoil,
2) dead pixel appear on the LCD TV,
3) can't turn on LCD TV

so will SONY honor their warranty?

Did call them up several time, but all give me different responses. They told me, once i purchase the extended
warranty, it will cover the whole LCD TV including parts, labor, and panel itself.

Then my friend call up and the SONY's staff told her the warranty will only cover the LCD panel for 1 year. So if anything goes wrong after that, i am on my own.

And one of them told me only 1 years for LCD TV so i said "Bye bye"

Which brand of dvd recorder u purchase, is it manufacture defect or what? Just curious, cause my cousin once drop his laptop and 1/2 the screen gone blank, but the acer service center fix it without asking (repairing factory). Lucky him. That's why i prefer to buy laptop with at least 2 year warranty.

All bravia carries 2 years warranty and hence parts and labour charge included within the 2 years, regardless of component. The only thing that the warranty doesn't cover is mishandled and natural disaster (ie water spills, damaged by fire etc)

When you purchase extended warranty, take note there is 2 kind of warranty.

1) Insurance plan offered by shop:
they called it "warranty" anyway but it is actually an insurance policy plan. Whenever your electrical appliances screwed up, you basically have to send you appliance for repair (might be a third party technician, not from the official product service centre), then the charges you have to submit a claim from the insurance company. If Insurance company gulung tikar, so does ur "warranty".

2) Sony extended warranty plan:
Basically its the same as the 2 years warranty, but now optionally extended to 5 years. If you sign up this extended warranty at sony style for 5 years, they included the all risk insurance protection for you FOC.

1) Backlight spoiled normally will be covered and be replaced within warranty period. However, backlight dimming (which is universal across all LCD) is not covered. The backlight module can last up to 60k or 100k before dimming to half of its brightness and this is under wear and tear and thus not covered under warranty

2) Official sony's claim is 6 pixel and above for dead pixels. However, this is much depends on the situation and negotiation skill. From my experience, to cover their reputation, they normally will replace even with lesser than 6 dead pixel,

3) Most often of this situation might be due to power button failure/power supply/circuit board fried. This is covered but depends on situation as well. For example, if they determined that the TV fried due to lightning, you might be out of luck.

My Philips LCD broke down after slightly 3 yrs usage and luckily I purchased 5 yrs extended warranty and I got back 40+% of purchased price back since they could not fix it. I would rather pay more for extended warranty to have a peace of mind.

For those who purchases LCD/PLASMA/LED-LCD/LED TV, beware the warranty does not cover incident cause by lighting. So better for u to purchase belkin surge protection which cover lighting (look carefully on the packing which determine the maximum compensate amount). Cheer.

Both my Panasonic CRT still running even after 10+ years "touch wood". Electronic gadget used to be very reliable,
but now for every few month, they got new model so factory need to set "expired date" on their product.
Else people won't have to buy new gadget once every 10 years.

things usually only break after warranty is over wink.gif

so it's best to get extended warranty, they know what the normal warranty period is
