QUOTE(htkaki @ Aug 18 2010, 09:17 PM) Checked with SPL meter right after Audyssey.
I thought it is Onkyo's characteristic, which it is quite renowned. Denon is more balance. 1008 makes me feel like in a cinema since everything seems larger than life while 4310 makes you feel at home, in this case home theater. The vocal is quite expansive than 4310, which I do not quite fancy. I prefer vocal to be tighter.
The 'pow wow' of Onkyo makes movie watching quite suspenseful.
I am thinking of getting one for the showroom in near future since a lot of ppl prefers dynamic and punchy sound. Yeah I think the Onkyo sound appeals to a wider audience. Their AVRs are also quite feature packed for the money. QUOTE Speaking of which, dual subs kakis seem to be on the rise More business for u

QUOTE(chewkl @ Sep 1 2010, 03:09 PM) Bro, it is not bottoming out, but just some massive distortion, like something is going to fall apart somewhere. Not sure if it was some part of my living room vibrating or the sub itself. Anyways it just happened once and I can't reproduce it. You mean when you played the scene again (with the same settings) you couldn't hear the distortion? Then it might not be a sub issue.

QUOTE(chewkl @ Sep 1 2010, 04:19 PM) No no bro, I mean the other scenes do not have this issue. Was too engrossed with the movie to repeat the same scene, and now I cannot remember which one. I see. I've seen 12 Rounds before and yes it does have some boomy scenes. But at -20 on your AVR it shouldn't be reaching your sub limits. Or are you running your sub very hot?

QUOTE(htkaki @ Oct 17 2010, 04:25 PM) And I know why such a question is being asked Swapped the position of both subs and did the calibration again this morning. klimal just went back after a severe dose of LFE poison So does swapping the position make much difference?

QUOTE(echoesian @ Nov 18 2010, 12:11 PM) Yesterday, just tested some movies with my newly bought PB12-NSD.... even with gain 9 o'clock and AVR at -19db walao the sofa was really rumbling, even my mom was keep asking "what is that, what is that" at the kitchen... really damn scared my windows, doors will crack later ..and also worry neighbors complain la...aiya really beh syiok family members keep on making noise.. no fun lo.. IMHO, this thing should not be placed in the living hall ..cannot fully utilize its power...really wanna try to run a bit hotter next time... Btw, is there a recommended setting for music playing in order to smoothen the tightness of this sub? Did you calibrate your sub volume to 75dB? Or are you running it hot? Does your AVR have something like Audyssey? To tighten up the sub for music you might have to consider something like the Subdude.

QUOTE(cwyan @ Nov 18 2010, 04:22 PM) Hi htkaki. What is the difference between 20hz and 15hk? How is the feeling like? Best is to try both and experience for yourself. Some like 20, some like 15. The beauty is that the sub gives you options.

QUOTE(htkaki @ Nov 18 2010, 04:19 PM) I had advised him to get the Auralex Gramma It is being run hot at abt 2dB since he like bass. I did the calibration for him. Shall I say, my brother. His avr is 2310. His living hall is quite big and with such big opening, we are able to achieve good LFE result. At -20dB, we tested WOTW Scene 6. He can feel the zaps and the sofa is 'massaging' (borrowed from Taukeh mpyw ) him. That's one of the good things about buying sub from htkaki. Got good setup service (unlike others whose setup seems a bit 'unusual' ).

Ideally yes you should re-run Audyssey since the freq curves are slightly different between 15Hz and 20Hz.
But for a quick test you can forget about re-running Audyssey, just change the tunes and port plugs for a quick listen. But for more proper testing re-run Audyssey.
I remember some people got the RS SPL meter from htkaki. Some of us have the CM140 SPL meter (that one buy from USA).

QUOTE(mikapoh @ Nov 19 2010, 11:29 AM) In fact, Audyssey settings on channel levels are pretty close to SPL meter. I have checked it many times & only need to tweak a tiny fraction to get it on dot. Guys, do u think we should run Audyssey during new speakers run-in or after run-in period as its drivers loosing up. Yup, for main and surround speakers the Audyssey is normally quite accurate. However do note the Audyssey mic can have variations of +/- 2dB (due to manufacturing tolerance). I once had an Audyssey mic that was consistently 2dB lower (but at least it was consistent ). As for sub measurement, at least in the Denon 4311 there seems to be more variation. pierreye says his sub level is -5dB lower than the others. In mine it is -3dB lower. So for sub at least, the SPL meter helped us to double check.

klimal, thanks for the pictures.
Regarding those acoustic panels you stuck on the plaster ceiling, you just stuck them as is or wrapped them up first? Can't see exactly from your pic.
