Hello guys, I just want to make things clear for me.
HDTV = A TV with at least 720p capability with built-in HDTV tuner, and HD-Ready = A TV with at least 720p capability without built-in HDTV tuner but support external inputs of HD signal. This is what I understand. But it seems that nowadays people say HDTV = a 1080p TV and HD-Ready = 720p TV. To me, a 1080p TV without a built-in HD tuner is still a HD-Ready TV or more properly called FULL HD-Ready TV... well, pls comment. Tq.

If people say HDTV, it means 720p.

If people say FULL HD HDTV, it means 1080p.

if dvb-s2 tuner is included inside TV to receive free-to-air sat TV, then it can truly called HDTV, but our government won't allow that, so the manufacturer take out HD tuner in compliance with local law and we can only receive standard definition TV only.

so current plasma/LCD TV can only classified as full HD(1080i/1080p) or HD(720p) panel, not HDTV

To watch HD videos over the air, u have 2 ways:
1) A TV with 1080p capability + HD Astro<--->Antenna = Full HD Ready TV concept
*Have to pay astro

2) A TV with 1080p capability<--->antenna = Full HDTV
*FREE! HD Videos/Channel

Probably Wifi antenna (more like USB dongle) which some Samsung models support.

Does anyone know why our govt don't allow OTA HD broadcast? When our TV network goes HD, then are we forced to have a set-top box even to watch free-to-air RTM? Tq.
