I have a HTPC running MediaPortal. Love the interface and plug-ins.
I also have BlueAngel H10R media player. Love the ease of use and portability.

So, why not get both?

As portable as the Revo is but at RM1399, Dell's Zino may be a better deal

If you wanna go linux route get revo or nvidia graphic card with VDPAU.. can use GPU to playback 1080p.. try with 20Gb mkv without any problem.. CPU hardly more than 10%..

I use XBMC.. really love the interface.

But most of the cheaper GPU cannot bitstream TrueHD audio except those higher ones like ATI 5xxx which cost more than 1k....

Can anyone confirm that the WDTV Live can stream TrueHD/DTS-MA audio ?

For HTPC, I think the trouble is when you also need to look for a decent casing, noiseless fan, decent remote controller, etc... ?

HTPC is more suited for techies who want to build, modify, experiment. Can always try new software, codecs, nice skins, etc etc. Bad thing abt it is boot-up time, power consumption and size.

Media players are small, consume less power, idiot proof (easy to use). Bad thing is firmware upgrades dependent on manufacturer, so if got bug or new format, you are at their mercy. Also cannot expand feature/function and the user interface is normally simplistic, file-menu based.

I have my HTPC hooked up in my living room, and a media player which i move around (portable).

my htpc is also my downloading rig, so its more or less 24/7 powered up.

Estimated cost to keep it up is Rm30 per month.

I'm thinking of substituting to something else, 'cos TNB ain't never gonna reduce power tariff as long as I'm a male...!

I'm probably going to use a notebook / netbook as a semi portable media player (need to download via ftp / rapidshare also) but at the moment all the netbooks currently can't even do 720p....so its not yet viable.
